  1. Pete, thanks for you reply. Can you tell me what car your seats came from? I am thinking of updating mine. I am wrestling with keeping it original v practicality and comfort. Bob
  2. Hi, I know this topic has been covered before, apologies. has anyone bought and fitted a s/s standard or semi sport system from the club shop? if so is the quality ok and is the semi sport system just the standard with a twin pipe box?
  3. Hi and welcome, I too have a Vitesse 1600 in Wedgwood blue, pretty much original, great cars.
  4. Hi, I have just purchased a spin off conversion from the club shop. I have taken off the original filter and it is clear that the breather pipe assembly will be in the way of screwing the filter on after the adaptor is in place!! Any ideas? Bob
  5. Thank you both for the pictures etc. I know now what I need/want, just have to fine one!!! Cheers Bob
  6. Colin, thanks for the pics. Either would be fine. Guess I will just have to keep looking until something comes up. The top picture is probably closest in style to the original. Regards, Bob
  7. HI, My Vitesse has never had a radio fitted. I would like to fit one with the speaker mounted below it. I am after a radio/speaker fitting bracket if any one can help. Bob
  8. Thank you all for the various offers etc but I am now sorted! I have a set of spitfire wheels 4.5J. It seems that the wheels fitted to my vitesse are herald size 3.5" !!! Bob
  9. Thanks for the prompt replies. I had been offered the spit box and just wondered. bob
  10. HI, does anyone know if a non overdrive Spitfire 1500 gearbox will fit a Vitess 1600? Cheers, Bob
  11. I know it seems odd, but the spit wheels are definitely 1'' wider. I will need to wait until I get the tyres off to measure it properly but they have old 155 x 13 tires on at the moment as opposed to 155 80 x 13 on my Vitesse. I previously had a Herald and by sight the wheels look the same, maybe the originals got swapped with Herald wheels for some reason, I can't think of any other explanation. I think I will go for 155 80 on the new wheels , the one wheel I have with 170 70 has so much rubber on the ground I suspect it may make the steering rather heavy. I had thought about splitting the difference, but I can't find a 165 that is anywhere near the correct circumference. Thanks, Bob
  12. Help!! I have acquired a set of Spitfire 1500 wheels which I think are 4.5". They have 155 80r13 tyres and 175 70r13 fitted at the moment. I have measured the existing wheel in my Vitesse 1600 and they appear to be an inch narrower, and they too are fitted with 155 80 r13 tyres. So can I swap the tyres on to the wider rime? and would is a sensible tyre size choice for the new spitfire wheels? I appreciate this topic has been covered before but I can't find the info I am looking for, Cheers Bob
  13. HI, I can reccomend someone in Suffolk near Sudbury who has done work for me onto cars previously to a high standard. If you are interested and want his details message me. Regards Bob
  14. I just assumed 5” might be easier to find frim a late spitfire maybe. i don’t know what 5.5” options there are. Bob
  15. I have had the wheels off but can't see any size stamped anywhere. I used to have a 12/50 Herald with 3.5" standard rims and 145x13 tyres. My vitesse wheels 'look' the same but have 155x13 tyres. So still no clearer, my car is a 1966 Vitesse 6 1600. Bob
  16. I am interested. If I give you my email could you let me know where you are, how much etc. also what size tyres were fitted and are they definitely 5” and not 4.5”. Bob
  17. I am after a set of 4 or 5 5' Spitfire steel wheels for my Vitesse 1600. Bob
  18. Thanks for the replies. I will need a new set of tyres soon and so thought about getting 5” rims at the same time. i had considered getting minilite copies until I read that you need to fit longer studs, hence the original question. i think I will try to find a set of steel 5”.
  19. Can anyone confirm that late Spitfire wheels are a bolt on swap for a Vitesse 1600. And are they any wider than the original vitesse wheel? Cheers Bob
  20. I have a rod system as opposed to a cable on my Vitesse, does anyone know if parts are available, or is it possible to convert to a cable? I have twin strombergs. Bob
  21. By way of an update I changed the master cylinder today. It was in a poor state and almost impossible to push the piston in or out by hand, hence the sticky brakes! got there in the end and now have almost complete new brakes!!!!
  22. Too good to be true!!! My brakes have started sticking again. The only thing I have not replaced is the master cylinder, is it possible that could be the problem. When the brakes are sticky the pedal is hard, when it is not sticking the pedal has more feel. I have bled the brakes several times as i have done the various jobs, I guess that the piston in the master cylinder travelled further in the bleeding than normal and in to a part of the bore that might be a bit corroded etc, is there any logic to my thoughts here? Bob
  23. As promised, in between showers I have taken a couple of pics. I am now wondering if it so bad!?
  24. I would say the car is 99 per cent original, so I assume the half shafts are too.
  25. Just a thought!! If the previous owner had removed the rear suspension and then when re-fitting tightened up the spring eye bolts and damper bolts without setting the car to its ride height, could this effect the rare wheel angle??
