As I haven't seen any on Ebay for ages I brought them, good price (£42 new from Rimmers) and as Pete says they have the plastic slide bits in them. Probably not as worn as the ones on my Herald mike
-
Paul thanks, hadnt seen those, much better than mine, not perfect but worth having at that price.. Wonder what they were from as they are mounted on fibreglass.... ? cheers mike
-
yes Herald not sure if they are used on other models. The plan is to try to draw it and convert to G code and produce a part in plastic on my new (well very cheap second-hand) 3D printer. If it works then look at getting some cut on CNC machines. Or do it 'old school' on my manual milling machine. Lots of hurdles, got to learn Solidworks, get the 3D printer actually working, etc etc. But should keep brain active Mike

I need a new door striker plate for the RH side (and probably LH). They are not available new anywhere at the moment and most second hand ones are very worn. Started to think about machining one but would need to produce a drawing of the part. Its quite complex with lots of curves and odd shapes, all I guess as a result of careful design. Someone in Triumph must have designed and drawn this part, so what happened to all the original Triumph drawings? Were they destroyed or hidden away in a BMW archive somewhere? BTW the picture (from Rimmers) looks lie its CNC machined, the original is a cast item so someone has already redrawn the part for machining. mike

interesting. I need some new blades for my 13/60, it an early car 1968 and has the close together (inside of the washer jets) arms. At the moment I have one 11" and one 12" blade, the driver side one does not wipe very well and is not touching the screen. Had a look at the shop and am a bit confused as to what the correct blade is? Happy to try a modern blade, the arms are ~5.3 mm wide. Any suggestions welcome! mike

Slightly OT, but why do you need a separate temperature sensor when you already have one driving the temperature gauge? Just monitor the voltage across the sensor, simple comparator (with adjustable threshold) and drive the relay to turn the fan on. Am I missing something? mike

Going to look at this. Any advice?

is it me or is there something strange about the OS rear wheel alignment? Maybe its the angle of the picture or the oversize wheels... One of those 'looks pretty at the moment cars' I would look very carefully at the body work. Mike -
well its not stolen, new owner 01/07/2021. mike

yes maybe, but its in a very public area and easily seen from the main road thru Burwell. Its is a very nice car, nice alloys, new tyres and overall excellent condition... mike

Anyone lost a Blue 1500 Spitfire? There is a lovely Blue 1500 Spitfire that has been parked in the car park outside the community centre for at least 6 weeks without moving. I put one of Cambridge TSSC cards under its wiper 10 days ago and it still there.... Not sure if it parked up, its mot'ed, but not taxed (1978 does it need tax) or dumped there. Interesting the reg shows that the V5C was issued 6 August 2021, does that mean it changed ownership then? Very curious..... if anyone knows the car/owner the Cambridge TSSC meeting is the first Monday of the month Mike

a proper ratchet crimping tool means the correct crimping force is always used to make the crimp. With this type of tool it all depends how tight you have squeezed the handles... not good if you want reliable crimps. Mike

you might want to check availability... I have just fitted a MK1 Vitesse exhaust to my Herald. TSSC club were quoting 8 to 12 weeks delivery. Only place that had SS one in stock was Rimmers, all the usual suppliers didnt have any in stock.. mike
-
Quick update: I brought a MK1 Vitesse exhaust system from Rimmerbros with the central silencer, (only people who had one on the shelf, club weeks delay), fitted it and its wonderful, much less noise but no change in performance. Much nicer on a motorway. I had to cut the exhaust and did make a bit of a cock up, cutting off the bend in the main pipe. This has meant the rear silencer it not in the right position and is hitting the wheel well. Will need to replace the pipe from the tubular manifold to the rear box. Mike

I have a 1500 engine in my Herald with a 4 to 2 to one tubular SS exhaust manifold (from a 1500 Spitfire). The engine has a stage 2 head (whatever that means) fuel EFI and mapped ignition. It goes very nicely. But the exhaust is very noisy (and has a few leaks in it). On long motorway journeys it gets very tiring... At the moment is has a steel pipe of 48mm OD running from an adapter from the manifold. The rear box is of unknown parentage.... and has 42 OD exit pipe. Its very noisy, sounds nice when revved but too much on a long journey its also leaking and very close to the ground and the main pipe is very badly rusted.... I want to fit something quieter. I was thinking about a Vitesse system (2L) or even a Vitesse 1600 system, but I cant find what size pipes are used in these systems. Anyone know the pipe sizes are on these systems or what have other people used on a 1500 Herald. thanks Mike

Herald 13/60 with 1500 engine and OD, very easy to keep up with traffic. Nice to drive and handles well and not too far off the Vitesse apart from the sound of the 6 cylinder engine.... Mike 1500 Herald, OD box, 3.89 diff, and EFI.

thats interesting.. I had to replace my header as the joint had seized and broken (it had been welded before). I brought a new old stock header and on one side the angle of the fixing is out so that when bolted to the rest of the frame, the top of the frame is touching the top of the window. Cant find any adjustment to fix this and wonder if the NOS was never used as it had been badly made? I am not sure how I can bend it to the correct angle without breaking it.... mike

I am trying to find out what the size of the thread is for the screws holding the catches on the front of a Herald 13/50 roof. The part number is 509210, I think I need a parts list that shows the spec of screws and bolts.... Also anyone know what screws YZ3324 are these hold the weatherstrip one the front rails. I think they are self tappers... cheers mike

Mark from Jigsaw is active on FB so you could try contacting him direct, if you use FB.... mike

signs of overspray on the rubber cones for the bonnet and under the D plate and on the sills. Front wheel arches look a bit frilly... Nice but needs a very close inspection for rot. Nice hood fit though. mike

Hello from Paula and her Vitesse
mpbarrett replied to Paula's topic in I thought I'd introduce myself
are you still after a gearbox as Tony Lindsey Dean is selling some. See below from his FB page With the new year beconning I am increasing my efforts to clear down excess transmission units & those for which I no longer have cars for. Just wondered if there are any 1600 Vitesse./Sports 6 owners looking for something special gearbox wise. I have surplus to requirements a complete 1600 Overdrive gearbox fully restored using one of my last BRAND NEW gear sets. I fitted this to a test car to sort the engine & ancillaries (Twin down draught Solex especially) for the Works … See More -
cheers already put hazard lights on the Herald and improved the rear lights (cleaned and LED bulbs) and rear fog light but will probably put on front running lights. BTW everyone seems to leave the light switch on moderns in the auto position, thats fine until its foggy and then the lights down come on! mike
-
has anyone fitted daylight running lights to there Triumphs? mike
-
for such expensive car you would expect the battery to be clamped properly! mike

That's very neat. Good to have some adjustment of the standoff between the senor and toothed wheel. if its a passive pickup coil the standoff is critical at low speeds otherwise the signal amplitude can be very low. This leads to all sorts of difficulty starting particularly on cold days. Had all sorts of starting problems with my EFI on my herald on cold days until I released the a gap was too large and the signal amplitude was very low.... Is there room for the fan/alternator belt or is it not being used? mike

Does anyone have a GT6 Mk3 driver's seat spare?
mpbarrett replied to NonMember's topic in Parts Wanted
I have a couple of spare cloth MX5 seats that were in my herald. Welcome to borrow one until you get the original fixed. No idea how easy/difficult there are to fit in a GT6. mike
