  1. Just a quick update on horn sticking to those that replied ,it was totally self inflicted when I changed the steering coupling a few days earlier I managed to trap the purple and black horn cable under the washer on the top column mounting 😩and me banging on the steering boss must have been enough to short through the wire , lesson learned,so thanks again for the replies Darron
  2. Ha ha already thought of it thanks Pete and I’m sure the close will be appreciated of it as well ,I’m sure it sounded for only a minute or two last night at 8 o’clock but with the Panic it felt like ten minutes 😩
  3. Thanks Pete will check to see if there is a snag on the wire up to the brass ring tonight and disconnect from the bullet connector first save the embarrassment of the horn 🤣 thanks guys Darron
  4. Hi Andrew wheel boss is completely removed so must be something inside the column that’s touching and earthing Will have to remove the column tonight and check it out , thanks for the reply Darron
  5. Need some help ,so went to change my steering wheel tonight ,the boss was a pig to remove but got there in the end, put it all back, and reconnected my horn push everything fine just leveled up the badge in the middle then it happened the horn went on constantly which was a pain as i live in a close everyone was out looking as i tried to disconnect the battery, so now the horn will not turn off, no boss on the column so no connection there any ideas would be appreciated Darron
  6. Thanks for the input gents after looking at the price of original QH parts which are the ones I would probably go for, there is not much difference than polys in price, also the QH bushes are a lot harder to get in quantity from one supplier on EBay so would be buying from several suppliers with extra postage .Will find a price for QH when back at work on Monday from one of the Factors we use if they’d still can get them . Thanks again Darron
  7. HI looking for some advice on standard bushes for the wishbones,i have purchaced some second hand wishbones shot blasted and painted them and now ready for some bushes, as i want to pull mine out and just change them over,i have been through the forum looking at what you guys recomend and the general concences is to fit poly bushes as the new rubber one are not much cop, my car is does not do many miles a year around 600 at present so poly bushes the best ones seem a lot of money to spend. my quetion is there a supplier that does standard rubber bushes of a good quality or are they all rubbish . 8. Hi KevinR thanks for the reply as you have said very complex , you mention a restrictor where would this be fitted and what size would the hole or bore be ? To be honest I think from reading this thread this weekend I will be removing the the kit from the car as it’s started to play on my mind though I have had no problems or concerns so far but haven’t done thousands of miles in it just a piece of mind , taking on board you and others wisdom and experience. Darron
  9. hi just reading this thread i too have the kit fitted to my 1600 not by me but previous owner , ihave noticed blue smoke when on idle for a while and also on after run ,which this thread as answered. My question is how does the front main bearing get starved of oil if the oil pressure is maintaining good pressure, my take off for the kit is where the low oil pressure switch is and also my oil pressure guage, surely if the pressure remains good through out the system and in all galleries the front journal would be too and not starved. 13. Carrier isn’t that bad Pete to be fair, check the photos Darron
  14. Evening so gearbox and overdrive all back together, new 2 litre borg and beck clutch ready to install couple of question to you guys out there ,i have access to plenty of commer manual gear oil fully synthetic which i will attach a photo of its 75w/90 gl4 can i use this in the GB/OD and secondly the clutch fork looks in good condition apart from a couple of stress marks which you will be able to see in a attached photo is it worth me running a tig weld over them or will that cause it to get even more stressed as i have read somewhere that these do crack
  15. Part that Jumpingfrog. Suggested on eBay ordered for that sort of money no brainer ,thank you for your time to look Darron
  16. Even gents I think i have enough information and know how to rebuild the gearbox now , there is one more thing i would like to run past you guys my 1/2 syncro hub sleeve has its teeth well chimbled as you can see looking back on this thread , so my question is, as i have this box completley apart, with out buying the complete hub from Mick Dolphin for over £150, there is just the outer sleeve for a marina box brand new pattern for £50 is it worth buying or not ! i have added the link below, thank you all again Darron https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Morris-Marina-Gearbox-Hub-1ST-2ND-LATE-29-Teeth/113867460869?hash=item1a83079105:g:5rkAAOSw8WpdS~T4
  17. What do guys think about the link jumping frog sent about the idler gear running in partial mesh in certain gearbox ! And the fact that some first gears are thicker . i dropped the layshaft into night and the position I have for the idler slightly rubbed the shaft on the first gear so bit the bullet and removed 20 thou off the back of gear !! This gearbox project as certainly turned into a ball ache of a challenge, but so glad of the information, experience and general enthusiasm friendliness of you guys on this forum ,thank you Darron
  18. Thank you Jumpingfrog just had a quick look on that Webb site and there is so much information , interesting about the reverse idler gear being in partial mesh as this is what mine is doing I assumed it shouldn’t be touching this is why I was on for taking some material off ,and when I stripped the box there was a extra washer behind the standard size spacer Darron
  19. That’s exactly what went through my mind I think I’m heading towards taking some material off the back of the gear to allow it to go back a few thou so it doesn’t interfere With the hub it is only a reverse idler and there is plenty of material, only problem is it’s too hard to machine on a lathe will have to improvise with the lathe and a grinder ! Darron
  20. https://www.triumphexp.com/forum/spitfire-and-gt6-forum.8/reverse-idler-gears-3x-versions.1475947/ Pete have a look at these I’m sure one is the same as the one in my box , Darron
  21. To be honest Pete the other gears look good the idler gear looks like it was made like that check the photos Darron
  22. Johny just checked and as yours 26,24,20.13and 15teeth on the layshaft Darron
  23. my thought Pete is, was that idle gear in constant mesh with the syncro hub when it was in fiirst gear! because i moved the arm pivit piont back about 6mm(1/4)" and the orignal sleeve behind the gear had a extra spacer behind it, so it had to be in mesh in first, and because there is a tooth nearly missing this was making the knocking noise in first, and that the reason i took the box out ! Darron
  24. Thanks for all the threads l have modified the reverse selector lever as Marcus suggests heated it locally and bent it bit by bit untill it takes the back of the reverse idler gear to a few thou away from the first gear then measured and machined a new spacer sleeve which is just under a 1” that stops it touching the speed gear will check the rest of the teeth on the lay shaft a bit later Johny let you guys know Darron
  25. Just checked the lay shaft 13 teeth and the old idler gears is slightly tapered !!
