  1. ok thanks pete, I'll basically get GB Springs to take this Mk 4 one back as he's supplied it incorrectly. My emails to him state Mk3 so he I'm sure he'll take it back. SP
  2. I've been involved with most of the work on the car, I'm not a mechanic but I dont mind trying stuff as long as I have people around who can help and the people on here have been great with me. I really appreciate the support on here. I ordered a bush pack and pad as suggested earlier in this thread, i now realise that stuff that I was advised to get may be for a mk4 also as I don't think the rear spring pad I ordered isnt needed for the mk3. This has been an expensive piece of work
  3. Agreed, I'm taking it out in the morning when my cousin is free again, you and Pete seem to be 100% correct, it looks like the wrong spring I'll get back to you both in the monring
  4. No problem and i completely agree. I'll take it out (wont be today), photograph BOTH and post them on here. Thanks again gents, I always appreciate you guys and the help you give. SP
  5. If i ordered the bits yours talking about would this spring fit mine or am I just better off getting GB Springs to get me the correct spring?
  6. I'll take it off and take pictures and get back to you Thanks again for all your help!!!
  7. I see what you mean now Pete, no the original one doesn't so it seems i've might have been sent the wrong spring
  8. Yes, it does look different but GB Springs said it was higher rated so I assumed it wound, the knuckle is different, I may have to take it out again and take pics of both
  9. there are 6 studs and 6 nuts and six holes in the plate. We just didnt have them all in place when I took the pic. Sorry for sounding lost here, have I basically been sold the incorrect spring?
  10. ok, at long last due to lockdown and medical issues on my part my cousin and I attempted to replace the rear spring for the new one I bought from GB SPRINGS. We have a problem. Keep in mind I'm stupid and not a mechanic. The plate that goes over the spring wont locate properly because there's a knuckle on the spring which would mean lopsided pressure on the spring plate. You'll see from the picture that we cant get enough thread through the nuts and even if we could, it still doesn't seem right. This is the spring I was sold by GB SPRINGS, I made it clear it was a 1970 Mk3 and even gave the number plate so I'm confident they send me the correct one. He did say its a higher rated spring than the originals but should there be some fitting pack to allow for that knuckle in the middle that isn't there on the old spring? I hope this meandering comment makes sense. I'm calling on the holy wise men of the TSSC community do dig me out of yet another hole this serious pen pusher has found himself in. Thanks in advance for any help you can give SP
  11. Thanks for the replies gents. Colin, as always thanks for your advice, I can just about operate a keyboard so your hints and tips on here are always welcome..
  12. Hello all, I'm looking to replace the boot hinges on my Mk3 Spitfire. Has anyone bought any recently that you'd recommend. Some I've seen online look terrible so any pointers for a new set would be appreciated. Cheers SP
  13. There you go then, there's a clear reason to break in to their house and search for it is ever I saw one. SP
  14. Think back to who you got with it. It may have been a revenge attack! 🤣
  15. What ever happened to the life shortening air horns I used to put on my cars when I was a teenager. One blast at a zebra crossing would reduce the life expectancy of any unsuspecting granny in an instant. The horn on my Spitfire is laughable so I was actually thinking of replacing it with a blaster from the past. SP
  16. 100% correct, I've just replaced both on mine. I couldn't even see the lower one until I jet washed the bottom of the column / rack. SP
  17. Thanks Wayne. It did indeed come with its own bushes so I'll just order the pad and radius arm bushes which makes it a lot cheaper. I appreciate the heads up with getting the bushes out too. I wont even try another way, just go straight for the burn. Cheers SP
  18. Thanks Colin. You see, this is team work in perfect harmony. I can just about operate a computer...... And you guys are the absolute brains of the outfit. Thanks for your help! I'll get this ordered and plan for the swap out of the spring. SP
  19. As well as making Moaning and Across the Country DIY Job Assigning an Olympic sport my GF also sits there like she's on a white knuckle ride. The rest of my family say I'm the safest driver they know but my GF though keeps me on my toes and awake with a good old brake press from the passenger seat and the classic seat foam throttle grip. SP
  20. Thanks Pete, as I'm the most heavy duty pen pusher your ever going to come across and not mechanical in any way shape or form, I'm going to ask the question you didn't want me to. Which of the items on the page for the rear will I need, all of them? SP
  21. I find my other half keeps me awake incessantly adding to the list of jobs I have to do back at home. It never fails to keep me awake.
  22. Happy New Year everyone. As an update to this conversation. My new spring from GB Springs finally turned up yesterday. I haven't seen it yet as I had it delivered direct to my fathers as that's where the car is. I know it's important not to go off topic on these threads but this is clearly linked, can anyone suggest a non bank breaking bush kit for the spring and stabilising arm? It makes sense I replace these while the spring is off but some of the ones I've seen are crazy prices. Any suggestions, links to items and advice will as always be greatly appreciated. SP
  23. He's called it a 'transverse spring', is that correct?
  24. After 3 months of many attempts to get a reply from GB Springs they've finally got back to me!! Yay!!! I'll get the spring delivered in the next week or so and maybe have it down as a Christmas project to replace that and all the rear end bushes. I clearly don't like having money in my pocket. SP
