Hi Danny, Doesn't the H frame go over the top of the carpet thats glued to the gearbox tunnel? I'm guessing I may have to cut the carpet out where the feet of the H frame bolts to the floor but I cant even get the legs to straddle the tunnel. I was wondering if anyone else has struggled or if I've performed a school boy error. Something which I'm really good at. Regarding the indicators/sidelights.....I could try to style it out and say that I'd planned it this was round but I'll be totally honest and say I have just fitted them as I thought they were supposed to be. Obviously not 😂😂 I've seen pictures of them both ways and as I'll be mainly using the car in daylight I just decided the put the indicators on the outside. Couple more pics.......

Hello wise and wonderful friends, I'm having trouble fitting my H frame. I've just installed dodo matting soundproof sheets and they're quite thin, on top of that I installed a set of carpets from Rimmers that I was gifted (lucky me) No matter what I do, I can't seem to get the H frame in place, either the gear stick is in the way or I cant get legs down far enough to be able to get the top of the frame anywhere near the correct position. Can anyone give me any pointers on where I'm going wrong? Or if anyone has a video clip it would be appreciated, it seems the tunnel is just too big bit its an original cardboard tunnel, not a new plastic one. As always, any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. (pic below of the car, its coming along nicely) SP

Thanks for all the comments, I'd forgotten I'd posted this question (I didn't flick the 'notify me of replies' switch), please accept my apologies. We'd already replaced the pads and the car is sitting on brand new tyres so a couple of your suggestions are already covered. We bled the brakes again at the weekend and tightened everything up properly but I still fell the brakes could be a little better. Its more than safe to drive so I think I'll complete the other interior work Ive started on and return to the brakes in a couple of weeks. New discs wont hurt at all and refurbishing the callipers at the same time is only going to benefit me. I'm not a mechanic at all so all these bits that I push myself to do are a bit of a challenge as I panic a little that I'm creating myself the perfect death trap although I haven't it quite yet. SP

I bought a new metal bowel from Rimmers with a metal flap with screw hole in it, and this is what isn't accessible when its in position on the bonnet. I I assumed I could what looks like a screw hole in my chrome ring to secure it to this bowl. Silly me for thinking things would be simple! SP

Sorry to recover this thread from the depths. When I tried to spin the headlamp bowls to make the screw hole fastening clip accessible for me to screw into, the bowl wouldnt fit into the pre determined holes in the bonnet. Can anyone help me with some pictures of there rims and where the screw hole is? I'm just not sure where I'm going wrong with this and seeing someone else's will give me a base to head towards. Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Just realised this isnt the set up i have for mine, mine is a sealed unit but i assume the screw goes in the same place 👍

I'm back here for help....again 😁 Can someone tell me or maybe show me a picture where the screw hole goes on the headlamp bowl? I'm assuming it goes top dead centre but some of you may suggest otherwise for reasons I need to be informed of. Any submissions greatly received as always. SP

My bullet wing mirrors are on the front of the doors and they're about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

All sorted. I used the 2 holes that were already drilled closest to the gearbox tunnel on both the driver and passengers side then drilled 2 new holes for the rails near the doors. I also used 3 penny washers under each runner to lift the rail off the floor. Grommeted and sealed the unused old holes and all's well. Now time to find myself some sound proofing before putting the carpet in. 😁

Nothing gets past you guys. I think the original runners are in place, just bolted through that strapping. I would guess the floor pan has been replaced at some point and as Colin says, the holes seem wider apart than I would need. Busy day at work but I'll strip that frame off tonight and see if the runners ARE there then take them to the car at the weekend. Im guessing there shall be some drilling and welding to do. Hi Clive, Thanks for your feedback and advice. I didn't see any nuts welded to the underside of the floor pan but if I'm honest I wasn't looking for any and the underside is cover in sealer. I'll take a proper look at the weekend incase they're hiding. Thank you also for the heads up regarding the washers/carpets, duly noted and I'll make sure that happens. SP

Hi Peter. That frame is something one of the previous owners have bolted in place so they can attach the usual frame to the floor pan. Basically the holes on the runners on the normal mk3 frame dont match up with the holes in the floor. Hence why i'm asking if seat runners are made in different sizes because the holes in my floor pan dont match what would be the standard bolt locations (shown by the yellow circles). I wonder if because it was a really late mk3 that it had different seat runners originally?

I need some advice regarding my late Mk3 Spit seat runners....... I've taken the seats out ready to do some prep work on the floor pan before fitting the sound proofing and then the new carpets. When I removed the seats I could see one of the previous billion owners had created some form metal frame on the bottom of the seat runners, it seems so that the seat runners can be attached to the floor. You'll see from the picture there are two sets of circles, red and yellow.The yellow circles are the bolts from the actual seat runners but these havent been used to attach the seat to the floor pan as they dont match up with the holes in the floor. The locations of the red circles are the positions where the holes in the floor pan are and this is why i'm assuming the previous owners have had to make up the frame to be able to attach them to the car. The advice I'm asking is.....are there varying sizes of seat runner for a late mk3 ?

Hi Clive. I know its wrong to compare them to modern day cars but I was wondering if anything could be done to help give more confidence to the braking. I was assuming there may be a bigger disc /caliper kit? SP

Has anyone upgraded the front brakes on a Mk 3 Spitfire to discs? Is it possible and and if so, any pointers on costs and parts would be appreciated. SP

Well, I FINALLY managed a test drive and the harsh noise on the initial acceleration and deceleration have gone. I did about 10 miles at 60 mph and nothing fell off so I'm hoping this repair has been successful For now....

I think I'll hang it low somehow. I'm learning that these cars are a 'make it work you're own way' thing. Because I'm not the most practical I just worry I'm gonna mess it up. I'll post some pics on how I get on after the weekend. SP

School boy error, I should have told you its a Mk3. I think I might use the holes in the bumper I previously mentioned and make some brackets. Colin, full rebuild due to a wonky number plate?? 😂 You have too much money! SP

Hello Brainiacs! Does anyone have any pictures of how you've fitted your front number plates? I have purchased the 1970's raised number plate style and I'm wondering how you have attached them at the front end? I've seen that someone has used chrome headed bolts in holes of the front bumper then made their own bracket to hang down. All other submissions and advice is always greatly appreciated.
