  1. Iain, I know a chap with a Stag, he used this DIY, kit and is very happy with the result. 3. Stag Tee is 7.7mm I/D & 12mm O/D.
  4. Thank you Iain & Jonny, found that very interesting and have learn something. Think you will find those extra 10 horses, I`m off now, would hate bore anyone any further.
  5. Iain, My blasted modern starts ring bells and sending all sorts of silly messages when it "thinks" my tyre pressure needs attention. Seriously tho` our findings on how much advance our engines need without doing serious damage, warrants some "scientific" analysis.
  6. Well I live in my world, and listen and feel to what the engine is telling me, and if its happy at 17 Deg BTDC who needs Google??🙃😀
  7. 👍 Will do, but I don`t clock up many miles, especially this time of year. I`m convinced that Johny`s last reply hit the nail on the head, and D.D. seems to agree, so I`m happy to leave it as it is. Mac
  8. Mystifiying indeed, just for info, during the rebuild I manages to get my hands on a NOS distributor, and have checked its performance, spot on as you would expect. I`m no chemist or fuel expert, but I suspect the petrol, because its very different to the old unleaded they were design to run on. Perhaps its no coincidence that nicrguy has found almost the same amount of advancement has given him his best results, defies everything we though we knew about ICE`s.
  9. Jonny I have great respect for your input to the forum. This is an experiment at the mo, and will be watching things closely. I havn`t done a compression, because it had a rebore, new pistons and an unleaded head during the rebuild. I think it is more likely to cause valve damage with preignition than as it is at the mo, time will tell. Mac
  10. Yes it`s staying at 17 Deg BTDC, I`ve been around engine over 50 years and know when an engine is happy or not, including working at Triumph all thro` the 1970`s. Indeed an engine can be damaged, particularly by pinking which is suggesting the fuel isn`t being burnt properly. So I`ll let you know when the heads blown off. 😀
  11. Cookie, Interesting post, had the same issue with my GT6 engine in my MGB GT. Had knocked the timing back to 7 Deg BTDC, and it would pink on e10 and e5. So decided to set the timing the old way, at tick over, and advance to max RPM, then back off a little. Took it for a spin and couldn`t make it pink. Checked the timing with a strobe and its at 17 Deg BTDC.🤔 And no there is no rubber slippage on the pulley, timing marks were checked 3000 miles ago during complete rebuild, and checked again when I advanced the timing just recently. Sure there`s another 10 BHP on tap as well, and it runs happily on e10. I know this defies all logic, but think it could be down to the way modern fuel burn??? Mac.

I feel your pain. VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda. Stop start. There is an easy fix for permanently disabling this function. On the battery negative post clamp, is a small plug with a wire disappearing to a black box somewhere, if you disconnect this plug it will disable the start stop. This wire monitors the battery voltage, and if the battery is not fully charged the black box disables the stop start, so if its disconnected it thinks the battery is not up to par. Other vehicles may have the same sort of system? Lane assist…...positively dangerous. On my Skoda attached to the rear view mirror fixing is a module that contains the camera that looks for white lines etc. I removed the cover and put a blanking cap over the lens….`no more someone else` trying to steer the car. On other types vehicles worth looking for the camera and taping over the lens and see what happens.
  13. Had a pair of these on my vitesse, no holes to drill, mounted thro` the grill. Lucas FT9 `s
  14. Grease is your friend. Wipe any oil off the seal and the adapter, then a good smear of grease on either surface will hold the seal in position till it's assembled. Mac
  15. I needed 20 litres because I have 2 old classics, and it filled both with a bit for toping up if needed. Buy 20 litres and share it with a friend (if you have any😜. It isn`t one of the waterless varieties, so if you had an emergency you can top up with water without it turning to jelly.
  16. only 1 litre that makes it expensive Yes but you can buy 20 litres for £75 which is not to bad, and no more fluid running down your arm and neck every 2 years!🙃
  17. Google 4LIFE antifreeze, lots of people sell it.
  18. I`m using this stuff at the moment, probably won`t need to change it again ??!!
  19. Mallard......can be green or blue, depending on lighting????
  20. i have been struggling to get an even tick over! Have you got an air leak on the inlet before the carbs? Spray some easistart or similar around every joint, if the revs rise you have found a leak. Mac
  21. cant switch mine out for good as soon as you  fire up........... I'M    BACK !!!!

      Stop start.

Don`t know if your system is the same as mine VW group, but on the neg. battery terminal there is a small connection (see photo) that monitors the battery state. If the battery voltage is not up to `scratch` it disables the stop/start system.  Disconnect  this cable (as I have) no more stop/start, it thinks the battery is flat.P1010223.JPG
