  1. Hi All, Managed to drive 30 miles today in the GT6. Bit of an issue with a misfire (corroded contact in the Dizzy cap - so easily sorted), but when really hot the oil pressure at idle was about 15 PSI as per the SMITHs gauge. When driving at 50, PSI was just over 50 PSI. Is 15 too low ? I seem to remember from my Dolomite 1500 days, it was possible to increase the oil pressure by changing the oil pump relief spring. The Engine appears to have done about 109000, doesn't smoke and doesn't rattle on start up now the non return oil filter has been fitted. I don't want to damage the oil pump drive or pump, so what would your recommendation be? Leave or increase the pressure by changing / modifying the spring ? Where would I get a modified spring from ? Part number ? But loving driving the beast..... Cheers All. John
  2. Hi Yep the Y pieces are now All present and correct. My question is.... Are the 4 eye balls supposed to be same temperature as screen vents? Some cars have cold face vents only. I have fitted a new tunnel and attached reflective foam to the underside, so heat input from tunnel should be reduced. Cheers John
  3. Gt the heat output up..... Had to top up the cooling system. Valve works as could turn it off. What I now notice is that only screen vents are hot. The side vents always cold despite the control positions. Is this normal for a gt6? Or do I need to rebuild the heater box and flaps.... John
  4. So luke warm air, actually tepid air with control on max heat on an average day like yesterday is the best it's going to get?? How on earth would you defrost an icy screen like that? Must admit the air blowing on to the screen was hoter than the dash vents, but I could seem to switch off the screen vents. I guess the foam seals have failed in the heater box. John
  5. Hi all How hot should the heater output be? Naff and luke warm is how I would describe it. Compared to the dolomite it's cold.... But the dolomite has a fabulous heater. Any ideas? Cheers John
  6. Horary maiden voyage take 2 and we have a drivable car. Took tank out and treated inside with hot water and a dishwasher tablet and 500 old nuts. Re flushed and poured in gallem of 30% phosphoric acid. Changed the angle of the tank a number of times over 3 days. Drained carefully and the washed out with clean water. Inside did flash rust but not bad. Dried over 15 mins with a heat gun in the filler or sender hole. Once cooled poured in jug of fuel and swished around. Drained and refitted tank to car. Drove car to its first car show tonight. So much interest in it. Not sure why as its no show queen.... Thank you for all your advice. See my next issue under the interior section.....
  7. Where on earth do you buy phosphoric acid from?
  8. Hi all OK dismantled the fue line, pump and also drained the tank again. Iots of rust particles came out of the tank. (think it's on borrowed time). Used compressor to blow out the pipes (steel pipe is in 2 sections as it has previously rusted in the middle). 100 psi would not budge it. Had to poke screw driver in ends. Pump Also had rust bits on the clean side of inbuilt filter. Not sure how it got there.... Anyone got a good spare tank?? Or is there anything I can do to rescue my existing tank...? John
  9. Just peered in tank. Took me 2 mins to find the outlet. Blocked..... I was so sure I cleared the tank out. Now I need to work out how to clear it out. Need a 2nd fuel can me thinks...
  10. Yes modern fuel as I only added it last week. Purchased from BP in Warwick. Def not overheating as only did 2 miles from cold. John
  11. When I press the prime lever it has spring resistance but does absolutely nothing to the fuel that has accumulated in the filter. when I first got the car I could hear fuel being swished around when I pressed the prime lever. I will take the pump off the engine and see what happens when I press the lever.(Will disconnect the fuel hose at carb). Cheers John
  12. Hi dick Going to remove float lid in a minute to see what I can see. I am also thinking that this car has been off road since 1999, so given the state of the rest of the engine rubbers I wouldn't be supprised if the pump was failing. Also thinking about it it stopped yesterday after I hit 60 mph so if the other forum post (sorry forgotten name) was right my return valve's may be faulty. If those don't solve the issue I will have to drain the 2 gallons in the tank and check the pipes. Thanks John
  13. Hi doug How would you check the pump is working? I will remove the sender lid and shine a torch in to see what I can see. I will also reverse blow through the pipe with the compressed air again. I am certain the tank is clean though. Just been out to see car again 5 hours after it last ran and the filter is now half full. I guess it levels with the tank level? John
  14. Hi all. Maiden voyage today after 5 months of re commissioning...... After 2 miles it stuttered and cut out. Would not restart unless I left it for 2 or 3 mins. Over the past few months I have been starting and driving the car around my road with no probs. However I did notice that after I flushed the tank and refitted I struggled to get fuel through. I blew through the fuel lines with compressed air. All OK. I also have a fuel filter just before the pump. When it stopped today the fuel filter was empty. Despite pressing the pump prime lever no fuel would come into the filter. However after leaving it for 5 to 10 mins the fuel filter seemed to fill itself to about a 3rd full. Car then ran for about a mile. Repeat 3 times and managed to get home (with police escort)! All hoses replaced. I have noticed that the prime lever on the pump does not seem to be pumping. I used to hear it but now can't. I reckon fuel pump. Your thoughts? Cheers all. John
  15. OK here goes.... Used the waxoyl probe to squirt wax inside the windscreen pillars. Inserted from the bottom from under dash. Only managed to get the probe up half way on both sides. Anyway on near side I noticed wax dribbling out down the drainage channel. It pooled at the base. Funny when I purchased the car the passenger footwell was full of water. It seems the drain gutteters have been welded on the underside of the pillars and there are small gaps? Not sure of the construction in this area. So do I have a big problem? Is it reasonably easy to fix? Hope so else it's a dry day car only for a while. John
  16. Hi Pete, So is the difference between semi sport and full sport in the 2 rear silencers? I guess the centre muffler tube pipe could be added to both? Or does a semi sport contain the centre silencer and a full sport not? The system I have is not a rimmers. Can't remember the name on the label. It's only done 2 miles. Wouldn't mind swapping for a good stainless standard system if you know anyone..... Cheers. John
  17. Thanks everyone. Mine is so loud I can hardly hear the engine. Plus I will end up upsetting the neighbours. I will give the club shop a try. Cheers. John
  18. Hi My gt6 has a wheel barrow style stainless exhaust with a straight pipe in the centre under the gearbox. (I purchased the car with this exhaust). Anyone know where I can get the centre silencer tube from? Rimmers appear to only sell the entire system. It's just too noisy with the straight through pipe. Cheers all. John
  19. Hi guys thanks. I can't even see threads in the floor captive nuts. As for the carpet, previous owners have hacked a hole I the carpet, too big for bolts but too small for the feet. I insulated the underside of tunnel with foil covered foam. Used this to double up on seal. The whole dash is a nightmare. So many fixings and little brackets needed, most of which are missing on my wreck. Having said that I did drive it last night round my village. Oh the loudness and sound. Managed to scare every pedestrian I passed. Gearbox works, axle works (whines on over run), clutch and brakes work, fuel tank OK (for now) and all electrics work. So not far away from having my very scruffy gt6 on the road. 😊 John
  20. Hi all. Spent 2 hours trying to fit the h piece. Gave up. What a mare. The new plastic tunnel seems to sit slightly higher than the card item, probably due to the lip on the plastic cover. But my question is regarding the h piece to floor fixings. Do the heads of these bolts sit on top of the h piece foot? I assume so as the holes in the h piece are drilled same diameter all way through. Also should the carpet sit under the foot or should the cat pet bet cut to sit around the foot? Cheers all. John
  21. HI Rob. looks like my car is not the only one with parts not fitted correctly. I would def like to know where the Vents are fitted if that is possible for you to check? As I said, I had no pipes, no Y pieces, no vents, and no parcel shelves. I have managed to track all the parts, but now need to work out how on earth they all fit together. Thanks for your time. John
  22. Hi everyone. Does anyone know where the heater duct Y pieces and footwell eyeball vents fix to? The parts book is not clear and as all were missing from my car I have no refference. Many thanks. John
  23. Hi everyone. The gt6 is coming along nicley. Exhaust fitted and starting to get the interior back together. However I am after the metal retaining plate that holds the main light switch to the back of the dash. Is held in place with 2 small screws. Anyone know where I could get one? I have tried the usual places. I know I can make one but a bit short of time. Am getting a new switch from rimmers but they don't stock the retainer. Cheers all. John
  24. Hi everyone. Was going through my parents photos yesterday and came across a picture of their 1st ever new car. A spitfire in saffron, reg BRX304J. I was sat on the bonnet..... (as a baby). I see from DVLA it still lives..... Would love to know where it is......given that I am a triumph nut. My parents were almost in tears when I told them.... Thanks all. John
  25. Hi all. It seems I need everything. What are my chances of finding black cloth seat covers in good condition? Mk3 with headrests? (UK spec). I just missed an ebay auction for some. Am gutted. If it's like the dolomite I have more chance of finding rocking horse p**. John
