  1. Evening all, So I've rebuilt my SU HS2 carbs on my Mk1 Spitfire as well as replacing the mechanical fuel pump and fuel lines but when I've come to set up the carbs, the float chambers are overflowing. The rebuild included new jets, needles, fuel float needles + seats and new floats. I've tried to adjust the float level multiple times, cleaned the seats and needles and nothing I do cures the problem. I'm starting to believe the new pump is causing the line pressure to overcome the floats so I'm thinking of getting a fuel pressure regulator but I feel like thios shouldn't be necassary 😐 Any tips or ideas would be appreciated.   3. I like the idea of running just the OD on my 4.11 diff as I believe that was factory standard. Quick question, are all gearbox-overdrive adapter plates the same? I've found a plate on eBay which is listed as Mk4 1500 J-type but looks very similar to the ones I need from Canley?
  4. The recon price is taking into acount the surcharge as I don't have a unit to exchange. I forgot the rebuilt kit price which is £130 from Paddocks. I'll do some more digging and I might find some better prices 👍 and cheers for the offer even if it's impossible right now!
  5. Thanks for the replies. I think I would rather commit to the D-type overdrive than the Diff change for now. Perhaps it's an option for the future although would a 1147cc handle both a diff change and overdrive, I don't know. I have a spare gearbox (3 rail - 3 synchro) to play with so rebuilding it with a new mainshaft is not a problem. Only the added cost of buying one 😅 which admittedly is now starting to add up. Anyone know where the best place to aquire these parts for reasonanable price? At the minute the prices I've got are: Adapter Plate = £112 (Canley) Reconditioned Overdrive unit ~ £500-£600 3 Synchro Mainshaft = £170 (Canley) Propshaft = £132 (Paddock) Gearbox Mounting plate = £15 (Paddock) Relay = £25 (Canley) Overdrive Column Switch = £30 (eBay) Column switch cover = £10 (Canley) Relay = £25 (Canley) So roughly £1100-£1200... 😬
  6. Hi guys, I managed to grab a second gearbox for my Spit and was thinking about fitting an overdrive to it. My question is which type of Overdrive unit do I go for? As I understand it either can be used and the things I'll need are: Overdrive unit, Overdrive to gearbox adapter, Overdrive column switch, cover and wiring, Shorter Propshaft? New Mounts? Is there anyhting I'm missing? For reference I have a Mk1 '63 Spitfire 1147cc.
  7. I remember now. When I first bought the car it had those massive air filters that are present in 68vitesse's photo but they were dirty, rusty and faling into pieces so they were binned in favour of paper ones. Might just go to paper ones again and replace them every year as the K&N filter are a tad expensive for my liking. Rimmer's have accepted my return as well 👍
  8. Thanks clive, My Spit doesn't have an airbox currently. Whether it came like this from factory or a previous owner got rid of it I have no idea. I didn't think it was suitable but on their website it's say's it fits mk1 Spitfire's. I'll have to send it back and fork out for those K&N Filters.
  9. Hi all, I've been working on my Spitfire since I've been stuck at home and I bought some Stainless Steel Air Filters from good ol' Rimmers to replace the dirty air filters I currently have. But when I went to fit them I noticed a hole in the back plate that, to my unexperienced eye looks out of place. It is the hole at the bottom of the picture. Anybody have an idea of what the hole is for? My Spit is a mk1 if that helps. Thanks!
  10. Hi all, After getting my spit on a lift it's pretty obviously the suspension needs a fresh start. I thinking of going Gas filled shocks and poly bushes everywhere and wondered what products people would recommend? Thanks in advance, Tux

  12. Okay, thanks! I'll get the earth points and feel for the kick as I turn the key 👍 A new solenoid only cost me £20 so if it is on its way out it's not bank breaking.
  13. Hi all, Here's a mystery for you, every now and again the starter key switch will not engage the starter motor. Not every time but I'd say more often than not nothing happens. At first I thought the barrel key switch was knackered so I bought a new one and it appeared to fix the fault for as day before it started to play up again. The battery is fine, ignition lights up, there is no 'clunk' or evidence of the starter is even trying to move, just nothing. Thankfully it's the push button type of solenoid and that works 100% of the time to start the car. I suspect the solenoid but I would have thought if that did fail, it would just stop working full stop and not intermitently? Any ideas?
  14. Hi everyone, As promised I've taken some more pictures of the Spit. Had a decent run today with the weather being glorious but with it being a bank holiday in north wales, it means the roads are crammed. Finally have the engine and throttle tuned so now it's fun to drive, how the hell anyone drove it before me with old setup is a mystery. Now I could drive it anywhere and actually feel confident in it! Blitz, which event are you referring to? Can't see it in events? Tux
  15. Thanks guys, guess I'll have accept I'm not getting a new mechanism. It's a shame as the hole in the trim is quite ugly but there's ways around that. Thankfully I have bonnet locks already so might get a battery disconnect switch and handbrake lock and then I should be fine 🤞 Or I might be able to make something up. If anybody has any drawings of the early lock mechanism it would make it much easier I'll try and get her out this week and take some more photos of the ol' girl. Tux
