  1. The hardest bearing (triumph) refused a 40 tonne press and only gave up to the press and a gas axe. Guess which one?

  5. Yes, nice to see them in a positive role, the yellow one in the film where people can't avoid a nasty death was chopped up and a couple other films where there either rusty or the old broken down thing!!!!!
  6. Yes used some heat, but in the form of angle grinder!
  7. Doing this so I've got a spare, I suspect it was already a bit out as gasket sealant or some other sealant was used before, squeezed all over from all joints apart from the large split. All bearing seam ok, apart from the two I destroyed getting off. Seals stiff and was leaking out of the front.
  8. Why is it I could drift one side out but the other is in the freezer !!!!. If that doesn't work its going to be cut.

  10. Thanks for the help pete. All back together now and a little test in the garage, it seems to work fine. I don't think it was adjustable as the fork was the same length as the new one. It just looks like some ones bodge. I'm sure I will find others if I'm allowed to drive it this year! The old one had popped out when the old fork jammed on the edge of the cylinder.

  12. Forgive me if this has been covered. Took the 2500s for a drive , well up and down the garden / driveway as its been layed up over winter. Just as I was going to put back in the garage the clutch stuck on!! Found the slave cylinder had pushed the arm out and stuck with the fluid dripping out. Release the arm by the pin and the clutch sprung back. The falk arm pulled out from the slave to revel a threaded end with a nut on? That can't be right? Recommendations for replacement , suppliers would be welcome and any other bits to check as u don't want it to happen again.
  13. I would start with a mig of at least 130amp but 150 would be better. Get an automatic face shield and good gloves that let you move your fingers. Stick takes a lot of cleaning back. The main bit is to practice on scrap metal till your happy before you go near the car. Do keep the metal clean, much as possible rust and paint cleaned off.
  14. Please don't take it as a critical comment, just an observation. Seals need to be structural on a spitfire and any patches on them must be seam welded to keep there strength. Trust me I know having a tight budget on cars.
  15. Very nice, look forward to your progress, the seal work all seam welded then dressed back? Often easier to replace a whole panel than cut in lots of patches.

    Yellow 2000

    Spotted a yellow 2000 while I was on my way to Manchester today. Anybody we know? Unfortunately I was stuck at the lights so could not see it well as it went round the roundabout.
  17. Vices are good made out of cast , good for compression as hitting bits on but no good for tension as they tend to shear. As many here have snapped one tightening up.
  18. All day to install a lifting block! One stud did not want to come out. Had to cut the grove and make a tool to fit.
  19. I will get my son to drive forward in them with my other son in the passenger seat, to see if they sit right then. The blue one was heavy sag on drivers side before changing and I know the lengths are correct on the red one. The red one does require properly setting up though as just done on the lengths of wood method. Can anyone recommend a place near downham market who could do this?
  20. Looks like lowering blocks then. Will take a photo of how they both sit when I get home. Both have only done a few miles since fitting (10).
