  1. We had a vicar who visited our school trying to teach us RE. He had a blue Vitesse convertible which I thought looked and sounded great. It would have been around 1966-7 and it must have influenced me as I've had three Triumphs a Spitfire, TR3A and Vitesse. My chemistry teacher had a Vauxhall Ventura that he used to bomb around in. Fuel spill

It's not ideal to use the throttle cable to adjust the idle but for now drive and enjoy. As the engine bay gets hotter the idle will drop 'cos the cable will lengthen😂. Sorting out the cable then tuning the carbs can wait for another (warmer) day. Iain
  3. Thanks John, at the moment I have a tight fitting 3mm thick rubber washer then steel washer and nut. I'll try an O ring as the above doesn't work. Perhaps the rubber washer I'm using is too stiff and not sealing. I have some O ring but fresh out of tap washers! Iain
  4. My cover weeps from the studs. I've tried sealing with various washers but oil probably in the form of vapour seems to escape and dribble down all three studs. I give it! Iain

I had one of those water roller trays for envelopes but yes still licked the stamps. At the end of the month when invoices sent out it did leave a sticky tongue. The good old days decades before internet and no fee no win legal aid!

My job as a boy was to lick n stick hundreds of stamps into the books. My mum told me the glue to was good for me........ Iain
  7. In my defense Your Honor I bought it like it🙈🙉🙊. I'm just trying to make it all work properly.......well mostly as I do love fiddlin' The words Triumph and perfect design shouldn't be used in the same sentence.
  8. I'll check but from memory its more of a problem of bellhouse to gb cover clearance. I have the cover higher on 12mm foam but it still nearly touches the bellhousing. This may be due to my T9 gb rear mount altering the angle of the engine/gb. Moving the engine back 6-8mm will give more rad fan clearance but results in another problem!
  9. Swapping left to right pushes the engine further forward. Not what I wanted. I'm sure I tried it when refitting the engine. I could fit the rubber mount to the rear of the turret bracket but I didn't think that was as wsm. I don't have mount shims on the nearside and the sump is might close to the rack. I have two shims on the driver side with much better clearance. Another job on the list. Related to this I spoke to Superflex and ordered diff mounts and they are trialling poly engine mounts with a soft as original 60 Shure hardness. They won't be cheap!
  10. Now there's a thought. My engine is compared to others too far forward. I'll check my brackets to see how I've fitted them. Iain
  11. Yes the WSM is a starting point only. Keep using if possible the same grade of fuel and listen and test. Iain
  12. For normal driving it's not bhp you need it's torque. Perhaps look at a camshaft spec and talk to Newman Cams as they are very helpful or Chris Witor. However you will open Pandora's box then look at distributor/electronic and the nightmare of carburetor needles/damper oil/spring rate. I know this as I've been through the pain. First off check your cylinder compressions are equal and correct or it's all a waste of money. Iain
  13. Barmy, I hope common sense soon prevails. Iain
  14. Forgive me but which government?
  15. You now have a working Assembly! It'll be fine just give it a few years/decades........ In reality I sympathise, what a barmy system. However I can see a business opportunity aka your chance to make £millions! Iain
  16. What about a CB radio?
  17. You need 5 for Colonel Bogey!
  18. But look at those 'orns!
  19. Or the 'cheaper' version I'm drooling over. I want one! https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1648629 Iain
  20. If you didn't have the throttle wide open then the compression reading will be low. Effectively the cylinders are strangled of air unless at WOT. Good luck tomorrow, beware Greta's mob! Iain
  21. The bonnet fits better than mine. What's the filling? As I walk around the cake section my mantra is 'cake is life' Iain
  22. The PO fitted one in my Vitesse. Nice and smooth but I still hit brake and accelerator. Iain
  23. In no stretch of imagination could you call my jiggin' up and down dancing🕺. Anyway you couldn't see my shoes over the flared trousers! In big Oxford bags I would dance away and the trousers never moved... Thankfully no photos survive! Iain
  24. In the early 70s I had platform shoes. They were from Ravels as my first wife used to work there. Not easy to drive in my Spitfire 1500 Iain
  25. I'll check to see what diameter MC the PO had fitted. I have Mintex 1144 pads. With less travel I might not hit the accelerator ar much! Iain
