  1. +1 for trying a slightly smaller belt. I'm sure mine is non standard as it all depends on the alternator mounting centre to spindle pulley distance plus pulley diameter. Another option is to buy a longer bracket with more adjustment. Iain
  2. Yes! Took the casing off and rotated the copper half tube and zero'd the needle. Compared results with the replacement and they are the same. Result....but I don't need two kits! Iain
  3. That's better, I bought from Folkestone Fixings excellent service. Now to do some fiddlin
  4. Haven't used it to measure the inlet vacuum. Are there any specs or charts available? Iain
  5. Are they better than the ones you replaced? My Gaz seem fine. Iain
  6. Good idea I like twidlin an fiddlin. I'm feeling under pressure, mainly due to trying to get the top rear corner of the flippin driver's door glass to move 10mm inboard! Spacers in the glass channel just ain't moving it🤬 Yes my wife calls me Marvin (the paranoid Android) To top it all were barely able to get in the front door today. Found out the builders had installed a too short door handle split centre bar and the grub screw had unclamped! Ordered one 20mm longer, idiots had used an internal door bar when the front door is much thicker. I give in....... Iain
  7. Another must have to calm my fears. Its a Sealey kit but as you can see the gauge needle is way off zero! The supplier is sending another for delivery tomorrow, they don't want this kit returned. Just another example of poor quality equipment. To be honest I plugged it in without noticing the problem and wondered why the pressure from the Huco electric pump was reading 0.5psi. It may be the pressure is low but I can't trust this kit!
  8. I bought two from him 3 months ago, he still had lots left. Iain
  9. I bought two relays, one for dipped and one for mains. It still needs tidying but the headlights seem brighter. I fitted both horns onto the drivers side which left more room for the cable spaghetti on the nearside. I fitted the relays on to a bracket bolted to the horn bracket at the front of the bonnet. As a live feed I ran two 15 amp fused cables from the alternator to each relay. Have fun, I had about four permutations and still not happy with the appearance! I'm thinking a busbar for the four main beam (it's a Vitesse) cables then one to the relay. At the moment it looks a mass of connectors! Back to adjusting the angle of my quarterlight today! Iain
  10. I'm not allowed near that porthole. Apparently I don't put the clothes in correctly?!?!
  11. Yes it's a GAZ, when fitted to the rears I set at 6 clicks. On a test run the guy on the back seat was bouncing up and down like a demented jack in the box😂. I think I've set at 1 click rear and 2 on the front. Iain
  12. I did put the same spacer front and rear to ensure its equally angled over. I'll give it another few mill tomorrow. I'll have to glue or stick two washers together, I've already dropped one washer!
  13. I loosened off the bolts and screw then put a 3mm spacer washer at the bottom of both glass channels. It's brought the top of the quarterlight inboard and looks better. If I add another 2 or three mill washer do you think this is too much? Will it cause problems with the winder mechanism or distort the glass channel? With the addition of the A pillar seal I could have a near wind and water free door aperture! Yes the pins did try and escape. Iain
  14. So I assume the pin needs a tap from underneath and pops out the top? I can envisage the pin popping out into a black hole never to be seen again! Iain
  15. Taken a look at my door seals, I do in fact have DX73 type seal round all the aperture apart from the roof which is a bubble type. The seal is about 21mm deep and seems to seal around most of the door. I think I can get the drop glass to seal at the top by using a deeper bubble. You can see how the drivers quarter light angles out but the bloomin latch and window handles are resisting my attempts to get them off! I can see a hole in the handles but I need to possibly get more aggressive pushing the dowel out. Is it sprung loaded like the dash light pull knob shaft?
  16. Possibly all, they are extruders and make custom parts. Extrusion tools for these small parts are not huge. Iain
  17. Finally fitted the above pencil, they were out of stock then took ages to deliver. I actually bought it from another supplier, bad move! The only thing I had to do was add about 10mm of spacer washers as the brass plunger didn't reach the contact ring. Works fine, at the moment! Iain
  18. Iain....is there an echo in here? I'm guessing, just need to measure the diameters and calculate. I'll do that tomorrow......if I remember! Iain
  19. When I phoned he did tell me the ratio of crank to alternator diameter ratio, I think it's about 3:1
  20. From the posts it seems the older Lucas alternators fare much better the new ones. This is the one I bought. I phoned them and said what car it was for so they installed the correct pulley.
  21. I agree! In 50 years of driving the only alternator, or dynamo, I've ever had to replace is in the Vitesse. Both were new ACR type from Triumph dealers. The first failed in a few months the second was faulty from new! Take a chance and buy the c**p ACR cheapo's or buy quality and move on to something else to worry about. Iain
  22. Should be a useable reliable engine! Good luck
  23. I'll phone Baines to see if I can get any further info as to compression characteristics. Iain
  24. And Russia, no more Stolyichnaya vodka for me! Iain
