  1. I always put in new bearings (last ones where KSM japaneese bearings and Ina bearing on the front of the mainshaft. Sadly even the regular 4speed gearboxes cost money here to and then you dont know the condition until you opened it up.. 🙁
  2. I had all sort of failures.. But never teeth gone My guess is the laygear wasnt up ti the job. Nothing else then input and laygear has damage.
  3. Input shafts Early was scroll seal type Late (1979 on) was an oil seal type Only the front part changed where the seal was, gear itself is the same (got both shafts in my stock).
  4. More strange wear on the selector shaft... Do know where they sell NOS items.
  5. Got it apart.. Not easy with 1,5 hands (had a injury involving a grinder and metal..). Someone in need of a candle holder ? 😆
  6. Just before my hand injury I had a gearbox fail. Laygear(NOS item) tooth broke off.. Who wants a candle holder ? 🙃
  7. Its a Smart For Two unit. Nissan Micra fans are getting pretty rare here 😅
  8. Decided to dig out a project that i started some months ago.. Uograding the heater blower motorbyo a Smart/Bosch item. Now fixed the original Smiths fan to the new motor. Now to install it with 1 hand 😅 Then see for a PWM motor controller, ordered one from China. I did make the adaptor months ago to. Did all the testing on a spare heaterbox (mk3 one).
  9. Got the box out and in(used one) 2 weeks ago. As the engine was new and build by me, fitted a good 2nd hand flywheel and new bush. All was still good.
  10. Need to take it apart fullt Sadly with my recent angle grinder accident its hard to get it apart with only 1 fully working hand 😔
  11. Well.. i bought a new mainshaft for the box that failed now. It was really tight.. But with only 1 working hand its a bit hard 😅 Time to get it apart, do know a sourcebfor nos mainshafts now.
  12. Input, laygear and 1 gear where changed to used or in the case of laygear.. NOS. This was a very silent box, But didnt want to go into gear good (mostly 3rd). As you mention the crankshaft bush, all new as I renewed everything on my new engine.
  13. Thanks everyone ! Got an operation 2 days ago, tendon was hanging on by threads. But they fixed it, now 4 weeks i may not move that finger. It will be long time before its all good again.
  14. Angle grinder disc snapped in pieces.. Need an operation at my finger/ tendon as that was hit.
  15. Hi, I again rebuilded a failed gearbox for my Spitfire 1500 Now 2000kms later.. Yesterday drove onto the main road.. bang! And prop banging.. Stopped on the side of the road, making noises in all gears, needed a pull to home 😔. Today took the gearbox out. Clutch like new, opened up the box.. ffs.. Tooth missing on the laygear and input damaged. This gearbox did fail before. Also laygear(mostly shaft failed) and took everything with it. So now it had: -new NOS laygear -new input -new OD mainshaft -new japaneese gearbox bearings etc. Now the latest bang it made.. what could caused it ? 🤔🤔😔 It was all very smooth exept gear changes (suspected the syncro's) Ps.. truelly hate Spitfire gearboxes now, had them fail lots of times now.
  16. Seems like it.. but its in the UK. Would cost me loads on tax.
  17. But... im thinking of fitting 3 gauges in tge center, so headlight switch would be already there 😅
  18. Hi all, I know the last 1500 Spitfires came with rear fog lights and a Lucas Fog light switch in the dash. Do anyone know or has a pic where the location on the switch was ? Im planning a new dash in Fox. But want a period correct switch now. Or.. what have others done 😅
  19. You could also make a big access panel on the other side to change the slave. I've got this and very handy. As mine is LHD i can even bleed it on my own easy.
  20. On my spit 1500 8 years ago I had bought 2 cables, but throttle kept sticking. Sometimes you needed to press the pedal hard, sometimes not. And very fun when you learn to drive with it! Since then got the outer sleeve and gear cable from a bicycle shop (and some other bits). Now 130.000miles driven... still working good and smooth.
  21. Nice work. The original seatbelt clips only work on the original belts 😔 Few years ago found someone in Germany that re-makes the plastic covers.
  22. Hi Clive Had a look.. seems also hard to find. Do you have the Ferodo part number ? Seen the 10CR is in september this year if im right. Will need to look what I all need from in the UK 😅
  23. A few more jobs done yesterday. Installed my new dizzy and electronic ignition. Then took the front wheels off to clean them and inspect the front brakes. Sadly my Mintex M1144's are on there last legs. And more sadly, i cant get them here in europe 😕. Do now have a set of EBC greenstuff to go on, but discs will need changing to. Also... my front Revolution wheel are getting oxidation (paint falling off) on the inside. Going to ask around to get them refurbed. Or.. if I can do it myself... 😅😅
  24. 1100kms the engine has done so far. No oil use detected and pulls good. But having problems with timing, new dizzy is ordered and will see this weekend. Actually a bit fed up and tired now 🙃
