Hi Pete, It looks just about ok / marginal when hanging, this is how its been for a couple of months keeping the tyres off the ground during winter. Installation is per spitfire 1500 1976. They measure 23mm shorter than the Goodridge stainless steel ones that came off. -
Hi All, So after a complete braking system rebuild pipes hoses seals etc, tested yesterday and functions correctly, BUT.......... Just after a second opinion, I think these new front hoses, as supplied by Mev spares, are way too short. I will try to contact him but dont hold out much hope as he does not answer either the get in touch thing on the web site or the phone. What do you guys think ?

As some one who works in the industry (42 years now and counting), it really depends on the make and where they where made. Please please never never buy cheap tyres, under the pretence that we do very little mileage. Ive seen the testing, it an't pretty if the compounds are not correct.

Re the drill, the biggest problem is blocked air ways (either contamination or the way it is being held), leading to overheat and one of the coils gives up. You can dismantle it an try to find where the break is and solider it up, worked for me. The older tools are so much better than the modern stuff.

Hi Paul, don't forget to check the slave bore before ordering seals, or just order new salve ? Got mine from Lacey classics. -

Hi All, Now completed the rear brakes with new stainless steel flexes (it already had them, but having the mushy seals before didn't trust them) and brand new cylinders. I decided new cylinders for the rear as opposed to seals when ordering the spares, as the price difference was small and given that I might find problems was worth it. Having now dismantled the old cylinders I can easily see corrosion and remnants of the old brake fluid trapped in them (it was changed in 2007 to DOT5, and I replaced old steel lines and re-bleed in 2012). The corrosion on the them must be a direct result of the old fluid still being trapped in them, as the DOT5 is not hydroscopic. -

I used the headlamp cowl with the TSSC shop, they use Sayers in Northampton 01604 642642, just a thought ? I found the club shop cheaper to go through as they get a big discount on 6 tins, with a touch up pot included. -

I've made the same access hatch as you (after playing far too many times with the clutch slave and striping the interior). I note you're using the expensive stuff in the clutch hydraulics, brave of you, or deep pockets ;). Great idea with the elastic cable thing to keep the carpet out of the way, mind if I copy it ? -

It’s actually the viscosity of DOT5 that’s the issue with ABS. -
Quality of master cylinder repair sets
alan.gilbert_6384 replied to DanielH's topic in Braking System
Hi Colin, that's MEV spares, I ordered a full set of master cylinder seals (spit 1500 1977), stainless steel hoses and rear brake cylinders from him. The master seal kit was not correct and does not have the lid seal, the front stainless steel hoses are 23mm too short than standard, the rear are 12mm shorter than standard, they don't come with replacement copper washers (a must have) and they do not come with replacement nuts either. Not very happy with him, tried to contact him via his web site 4 times now, no response, not happy
