  1. Wow that trim is the best I’ve seen. Does one edge of the plastic/chrome strip fit between the seal and the metal work? I’ve been trying to fit it between the seal and the glass… Thanks for all the advice. Howard.
  2. Thanks for the information so far. I’m not near my car at the moment, but when I get back I’ll picture it and see if that helps. thanks again.
  3. Hi, I’m having all sorts of trouble getting a windscreen to fit my 1980 1500 Spitfire. I’ve read all the previous forum chat above and following each bit of advice, I’m struggling. I have tried and failed with a screen supplied by Rimmers. When sitting it in place without a rubber, it looks to big. Comparing it to the old cracked and delaminating screen, it looks to big. When discussing with Rimmers they say after checking stock from the same batch that there shouldn’t be a problem. After an experienced fitter gave up after a second and third attempt, I resorted to Autoglass who supplied there own XXX windscreen. They have now had three fitters attempt and fail. I’ve resorted to having my original Rimmers screen cut down I little to make it match the damaged screen that came out. I hope to attempt to fit it next week……! Any advice before I start again. Thank you in anticipation. Howard “Newby”
  4. Hi fellow enthusiasts, I’ve found a slight leak on my gear box from a bolt to the left of the gear box top up plug. It has a split/spring washer on it. When I removed it to check, it has a short “pin” on it like a very short dip stick. I popped it back in as I worried it may have been connected to something. Am I safe to remove it and replace the spring washer with a copper wash to stop the leaking? I’ll attach a picture to help identify the said bolt/plug. Howard (Newby)
  5. Hi, I have an old Spitfire 1500 bonnet and boot lid. They would be free to a good home. Is it a lost cause trying to find a home or should I go straight to the scrap yard?

Hi Guys, thanks for those suggestions. I think, knowing how I’m fixed at the moment, I’ll go with workmate, muscles and wooden blocks. but I will invest in an engine stand for my next project. Thanks again for your help.

Hi, I have my 1500cc 1980 Spitfire engine out and stripped down. If I take the sump off, does it sit flat on the bench or are there protrusions that stop it sitting flat?.. Cheers
  8. Thanks guys, Good ideas. I'll give them a go.
  9. Hi Triumph lovers, I'm trying to complete a restoration of my Spitfire 1500. I'm currently working on the soft top. I have repaired a small section that had torn with my last bit of vinyl and now need to strengthen the area opposite to prevent that side splitting. There lies my dilemma. Does anyone know where you can get a small piece of black vinyl, rather than a full meter, which is very excessive and expensive. Thanks for any help. H

Hi Triumph lovers, I’m new to classic cars so forgive any “silly” questions I may ask. I am renovating a 1980 Spitfire 1500. Lots to do, but while getting some welding and paint work done, I’m looking at a few changes inside. Will I have problems fitting bog standard door speakers or are the electrics earthed differently to modern day cars? P S I’m not sure what the “tags” box is after you’ve filled your name in above? Cheers H
