Hello, my name is Roger Smith, I have a 1964 Vitesse 1600 saloon & a 1975 Stag.
My Son owns a Hillman Imp and a classic mini clubman with a MG metro engine.
I am a retired mechanical design engineer and Son Phillip is a test engineer for JLR at the Gaydon facility.
I have been using the Stag for 3 years and it is a survivor in that there has been no major restoration done to it.
I have been chasing a minor irritation in that it appears to run a little on the warm side but not overheating. When running slowly in traffic it starts to run badly and feels like a fuel starvation issue. I have all the usual additions, ie alum rad & header tank, electric fan, (but also standard engine fan) electronic ignition, etc.
Any ideas please?

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I have checked out the distributor, and replaced the earth wire previously (as I also had this issue).
As regards the rich mixture, I had the carbs tuned professionally a while back and the mechanic commented that he thought the needles were of the weak variety as he had problems getting the mixture to run rich enough?
The plot thickens?
Regards, Roger.
