It's a fibreglass bonnet

They were only put on last year and it's been kept inside since then and only driven occasionally so I dont think its hiding rust under there.

Hi guys,
I'm thinking of selling my 1977 Spitfire 1500 but I don't really know how much its worth. I bought it last year as a project for £3800 and now it has an mot and rebuilt engine, mostly new interior. The paintwork isn't great and it has the GT6 bonnet. I don't know why but I'm only 18 and that's what came with it when I bought it before I knew more about the cars. The rear diff has an oil leak although I can fix it and the seals are relatively cheap. The overdrive works and the gearbox and clutch are good apart from a slight rattle in first. The tyres all have plenty of tread on them and I have a hard top and a soft top. Although you cant see out of the back windows on the soft top and the hardtop really wants some TLC - it's the wrong shade of red and theres patches of rust at the bottoms and a tear in the head lining. The rear carburettor wobbles although doesnt leak. The headlights have been changed to h4's. The best thing about it is there is no rust and no underseal as the bloke I bought it from changed the majority of the panels. I have all the receipts for what the previous owner did to the car and it was something around £6000 in total.
If any of you have an idea how much it's worth or you need more pictures or descriptions I look forward to your replies.

I'd love to see your spitfire sometime and yeah I'll keep the battery charged up. It was a lovely day for it today I wish mine was working it would've been perfect.

Right I've had a look and I'm way put of my depth. After this coronavirous thing I'm gonna have to get someone to show me because I haven't a clue really. I'm pretty sure it is wrong though. Managed to check the vacuum advance thing - I think that works. I don't really want to run it though - it sounds dodgy and I don't want to cause any damage to the engine.

What kind of bulb?
And if it is off how do i adjust the timing?

Hello everyone,
I have a 1977 Spitfire 1500 and have been wondering how to make it run less terribly. Basically I'm 18 and have no experience so its all a learning curve. Since I've had the car I've never managed to get it running right.I have been reading that the likely cause is the wrong needles however I do not have the money to be buying vast quantities of needles until one works. It has a standard exhaust and standard air filters and airbag because apparently that makes a difference. Electronic ignition, sports coil - I'll be honest I don't know if what I'm listing is of any relevance but here we are. I haven't had the car long enough to take it to any club meetings, oh and also I have no idea how to even set the idle mixture. Really i'm just hoping that there's someone in the East Sussex area that can show me what I'm doing regarding the carbs because I've spent many hours fiddling with them and just made it worse ( after the coronavirus obviously). But if anyone thinks they can help remotely and give me some really straightforward step by step instructions on how to 'make it work', or recommendations on what jets to put in it I would be very grateful.

Hi all,
I've been researching these symptoms all over the internet and I've found that it could be the wax stat jets that are in it. Apparently when the engines hot they cause too lean a mixture (which I saw from the plugs) and a very rough idle. So I may try some standard jets in it and see if that resolves the issue. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated however.

Right I've checked all the plugs and they're all white so I'm guessing carbs aren't tuned properly

Also when it bogs if I pull the choke out it sorts it out and it runs better and revs further. It's also started to hunt at idle. When I get back I'm going to check the plugs so I'll update then.

It's got electronic ignition on it

I cleaned out the float chambers today and there was no dirt in them, they closed properly and they opened properly and there were no cracks in the float. Also the engine runs really poorly when its really warm and also really struggles when it has been idling for 10 seconds or more. This is only under load though- if I put the clutch down the engine revs up fine.

If the pump is a problem should I fit an inline regulator in the fuel system?

As I said I fitted a new fuel pump from Rimmers, however the petrol smell was still around with the previous pump. Also it seems to bog more when the engine is hot, but I will change all the fuel lines.
