  9. 🧐 ummmmm interesting !!!! so mk1 isn’t right description 🤭 when I’m describing my beauty it’s just a MAGNIFICENT 1966 VITESSE 6 Saloon with overdrive... also I reckon “just a thought” because he’s a late 1966 do you think he was made with complete Love and enthusiasm because that year WE WON THE 🌎 WORLD CUP ⚽️🤔😁 lol lol Mark
  10. VIT 😁🥲 This is what I’m talking about !!!!!! thank you so much what an incredible story and well written brought smiles laughter and tears great pics and what a description of the sixties fantastic story teller from the bottom of my heart many thanks mark

  13. IMG_4653.mov IMG_4654.mov Hi all let me introduce “LIGHTNING “ he’s a 1966 TRIUMPH VITESSE 1600 straight 6 saloon with overdrive. currently wearing a WEDGEWOOD BLUE paint job over what I believe to be his original OLIVE GREEN colour. The wheels are COSMICS x5 and are fitted with new FIRESTONE TYRES. Period mod cons are twin SU carbs and SAH branch manifold. The previous owner told me that Lightning had been stored for many years and was then taken to IRELAND for a number of years and that the colour change was done whilst he was living over there and due to it being registered in Ireland when he brought the car and registered it over here it had too be re registered but was given the appropriate C plate for its year. I’ve had an ongoing problem with him the spark plugs sooting up “running rich I thing due too the carbs” and three occasions when he just will not start “again carb or fuel line problem” a little tinkering and he’s always back up and running. He sounds fantastic and pulls along great keeping up with everyday traffic no problem.. there are other bits and bobs I’ve done and I’ll post these on here another day just too keep the thread going should anyone be interested ?....lol ... during my ownership I’ve replaced one sealed headlamp two indicator bulbs one flash unit one new veneered dash one bonnet badge and he’s had a service and greasing. I’ve kept the original parts as I think it’s important should I sell him and the new owner would probably like the original bits ?? .. here’s a load of pics that I hope you’ll like .. ohh and by the way I bought him two years ago and I’m loving every minute with him😁 IMG_4653.mov
  14. Hi Pete h and mark Powell interesting stories on both sad too hear they both may not be on the road seems as though the saloon 1600 6 are probably becoming a bit rare I know a lot in the early days were converted into soft tops for some reason ?!! or changed into 2ltrs I’m hoping we still have a few original left on the roads ?? Lol regarding my 1600 I’m definitely keeping it as original as possible during my tenure I have replaced the veneered dash but kept the original one for when I sell him on sometime in the future. I’ll post pics soon as I can I’ve stripped him back so I can check all the body work is in good condition and I’m pleased too say it looks solid all round not bad considering he’s a 1966 straight six with overdrive. again Thankyou both for participating in my collection of stories and adding your wonderful pics Mark
  15. Hi Pete great story and what a great looking car. I’m glad you shared your story sounds like you had a lot of fond memories of your Vitesse. I’m hoping a few more petrol heads share their stories and pics it would be amazing too have a section you can read and see different styles and warming stories about this great car again Thankyou Mark
  16. Hi all I’m curious as to where the Triumph Vitesse mk1 saloons are. Have you got one. Have you had one. What was its story before you acquired it ? Where did it end up after you sold it ? How much did you pay for it and how much did you sell it for ? What problems did you have with it when you owned it? I would love too start a thread about the mk1 vitesse saloon as I have one it’s a 1966 straight 6. A lot of cars mentioned on various chats are stags and the mk2 vitesse 2ltr and other models but not much on the Vitesse mk1 saloon. So should you be interested in writing a small or large piece and possibly adding a few pics regarding your Vitesse mk1 saloon then that would be great. I’m truly interested in this amazingly rare car and I’m sure others would be as well. So please help to preserve this wonderful car leave a little story as I and others would love too read about them. Many thanks mark and my Vitesse “lightning” ps. I will be adding my story and other pics
  17. Hi tony just seen your post regarding vaneering ive purchased a new dash for my vitesse absolutely wonderful and very reasonably priced the company is called gdkveneering local too you “not too far away “ father and son excellent workmanship and a pleasure too meet and talk too. The have items on eBay for sale just look up veneer car dash products and you’ll see their workmanship hope this helps mark
  18. Thankyou Steve I’ll keep it in mind do you think that would explain sooty plugs? Im looking forward too other replies But I’ll definitely have a look at your suggestions cheers mark
  19. Hi all I’m amazed at all the answers I have received concerning the vitesse and very proud of the fact you all pull together there is a wealth of knowledge out there and I’m thankful I belong to a team such as this ..... I’ll try and answer a few concerns/queries some of you have . 1 engine number per pic should clear a few regarding cc.. 2 carbs are numbered aud 543f apparently 1.8 marina!!!? ive owned the car since sept last year all was fine until a month ago when I had the problem first appear loss of power then wouldn’t start fuel seeping out of top of float chamber see vid ... I IMG_3767.MOV had this done and they also fitted a second filter between glass bowl and carb ... car ran great for about 3 weeks then she wouldn’t start at all strong ignition just no catching to fire up... so I changed the leads and plugs (which were very sooty) all new from rimmer bros still wouldn’t fire up removed top of float chamber noticed bone dry!!!! tested via push button in engine too see if fuel being pumped threw and it was ... checked float all seemed fine so done the same on second float chamber now that had a bit of fuel in the pot so Again tested too see if fuel was coming through from pot 1 to pot 2 and it was !!!! Then noticed pot 1 was full with fuel also pot 2 !!!!!? Put it all back together and tried to start her up ..... wow it started first turn sounded amazing ran like a scolded cat drove brilliantly..... then about a week later started her up and she’s as lumpy as anything not much power hardly pulls off the drive revs very low red ignition light on when dropping revs and sounds like a bag of crap (where’s the magic gone)!!! hope alls clear. (Lol) mark
  20. Thanks Doug she sounds great and your right the tappets do need a bit of attention I’ve had some great feed back regarding my post especially from Doug who noticed the air filters and carbs are not standard I think I need to replace them too standard as this could be part of my problem ? Some times she sounds and drives great then other times she becomes bubbly and lack of power as if timing is way out ?!!? cheers mark
