  1. Has anyone tried or fitted an expansion tank to the GT6 2 litre cooling system. If so did it improve the cooling system? Colin
  2. Thank you Doug. I have the badge it is the location on the bonnet I need. During paint/repair the holes have been filled!

      Colin,

OK got it! I could measure, but where to choose a reference point? I'll go take a look!

      Doug

  3. Can anyone please advise of measurements please? Or if you live in the Bristol or Bath area and have a mk3 gt6 or a late spitfire mk IV or 1500 I could by agreement drop in and make a paper template. Thank you Colin
  4. Thank you, I can not imagine how six hands would work together, but I know two can't do it. Thank you.
  5. Is is the outer waist seals, have not tried the inner waist seals....yet!
  6. I am experiencing real difficulty in fitting the replacement window seals. Does anyone have any tips or advice to share please?
  7. Thank you all, seems it was not there to be found! I was expecting a hole that would illuminate the inside of the ignition switch, guess I expected too much. I will take the suggestions on board. Colin.
  8. I have fitted a new loom, it has a key light bulb holder. The old loom did not have this, thus far I have not located a hole in which it will mount. Searched all around the ignition switch but not found! Can anyone please advise? Thank you, Colin.
  9. The new boot floor did not come with pre-positioned holes. Measuring and drilling for the fuel tank outlet was quite easy. However looking on the canley classics parts picture the vent appears to go under the fuel tank. Does anyone have measurements for the location please? I can't help thinking the fuel tank may not seat correctly if the exit is under the tank! Should it be on the axle tunnel? I have the same situation for the water drain pipe that runs from the fuel filler neck, where is that supposed to exit, any dimensions please? Thank you, Colin.
  10. Thank you all for your suggestions. The bonnet is now in place the spacing could be improved slightly however I will go back to that later. It now closes without striking either the buklhead or the near side door.
  11. Not yet. I really need another pair of hands to avoid any paint damage. With the current cold spell I have not been able to spend much time in the garage. Arthritis in my fingers is severely limiting progress. I will get back to it once the temperature rises. It has however forced me into completing a number of smaller jobs such as adjustment and fitting rear bumper mounts in the boot area.I I will report progress or not once I can get back to it. Colin.
  12. Thank you Chris. I will give that a try this afternoon. So glad that someone took the time to reply. My target is to eliminate the overlap first then set a gap. I had between 3 and 5mms in mind.
  13. I am starting reassembly, the bonnet needs adjustment. It fitted ok when I took it appart but seems a bit tight now. It does not appear to travel forwards enough on closure to seat comfortably in the bulkhead. The new hinge mounts were fitted prior to my ownership. In the box of bits was an old mount that was modified by elongation and vertical downwards slot extension. Not an option I really want to consider. There must be a way of adjusting to cure this. The bonnet had minimal repair so no new panels that might have caused any lengthening. The chassis similarly has not had any butchery. Any suggestions or tips should be appreciated. Thank you, Colin.
  14. Does anyone know if it is possible to test a servo on the bench? I have no desire to re-fit only to find later it is faulty. It was on my Gt6 and is the factory fitted Girling power stop. Any advice should be appreciated. Thank you, Colin.
  15. Yes there is a gasket, I have gone around one side and think someone may have used an adhesive type of sealant into the gasket. I have 2 studs out currently. Onwards and upwards.
  16. I have filled up holes that should not be there, filled damaged areas. Rubbed it down. I have bought new veneer. Can someone please recommend a suitable adhesive. The new veneer is slightly wrinkled, should l moisten, press and dry before attempting to adhere or just apply adhesive and go for it? Thank you, Colin.

    Head Fit!

When I purchased the car I was told the chassis and head were done. Post purchase after stripping the car, I found the radiator was not secured. After removing the rocker cover discovered nuts were absent or only finger tight! Removed the plugs put in a scope to look at the bores. I have removed the head nuts, these were beyond the torque recomendations. The head will not budge. Fed the studs with releasing fluid until the fluid runs out! I have gone around with a rubber hammer, hammer and block of wood, inserted the plugs and turned the engine over. Wedged wood under the head and jacked it up the whole car lifted so a series of downward blows to the block, still no movement. Nothing I have tried will make it move. Any suggestions should be appreciated. Thank you, Colin.
