After a trip to TSSC HQ, and spending a few quid, I am now stripping Bernard for a bulkhead respray and a brake rebuild.

    similar heads??

I dont know whether the internals have been changed but I acquired the dolly engine and was going to strip it, recondition it and use it as spares for the spit engine. If it wasn't compatible then I was going to just strip and reassemble. In fact im still at a loss with what to do with it. Cheers

    similar heads??

So can I change heads? I am aware there may be compression differences with the crank stroke but is there any way with the block numbers whether I can identify whether the blocks and strokes are the same??

Can anyone tell me whether a dolly 1500 engine is the same as a spit 1500 engine?? Cheers navyguy

    oil grade

Cheers for that, I was wondering why the handbook gave a wide range of oil grades. Navyguy

    oil grade

Looking in the spitfire 1500 handbook it says that for dependant on the ambient temperature the grade of oil can range from 10W40 all the way up the grade scale to 20W50. Can anyone tell us why we tend to use the more expensive 20W50 rather than the standard 15W40??? Cheers Navyguy

Well, I've gone and bought my first British sportscar and a spifire it is. Obviously not heeding the excellent advice of "dont buy the first car you see" I am now the proud owner of BGF **** affectionately now christened as "Bernard". Driving him home from Truro to Okehampton the first problem to raise its head was the radiator, which was the original one, began to fall apart as I was cruising at 60 on the A30. But after a trip to Exeter radiators a new recored radiator was purchased and fitted. The next job for the winter is a trip to the club shop and get hold of the spares which will allow me to conduct a full strip of the brakes. I'll add more info if anyone's interested in the future as Bernards going to need more TLC and I may need a little advice to bring him up to spec. Navyguy.
  21. I'll be popping up to the club next week so I'll quiz the staff and get what I need for the brakes and hubs. Cheers
  22. Yea, everything is going to be new. Will I have to change the bearings as well??
  23. Cheers clive, if I uprate the pads is it worth uprating discs to drilled? Or is the performance not worth the cost?
