  1. Anyone know what this loft type insulation I have between back seat and boot area? Black Plastic wrapped but falling apart. I've removed and binned it whilst doing a bit work. Should I replace it (sound deadening?) or what was it for? Could fill the area with expanding foam??
  2. Thanks for that. The car has been looked after surprisingly well apart from what I found. ( and may find! ) For example the front footwells are immaculate! The carpets have never been wet. 5 previous owners, last the daughter of the 4th but who knows who before?? Someone loved it and someone else abused it! Good run out today with temporary seat belt restraint for me 😉
  3. Is a doddle. The mention of drilling rivets had me worried! Just remove hood trim and fold up, two 2BA screws to side pieces and it is the tiny poppers you need to remove by drilling out. They are the same as hood studs, cost coppers and possibly screw new ones in, or pop rivet. They are only for the hood cover if you use one anyway. Got full access now to weld up my seatbelt fixings . Going to cost a ton for both sides. Fitting inertia belts is also a doddle with Securon adjustable retractor, like for the MGB GT. Few pictures to follow. Probably in a random order
  4. I'm thinking the convertible design is poor, causing a built in water trap with that large 'washer' holding water between it and the wheel arch and thus the rusting, now showing on the near side, around the edge of it. The off side must have gone earlier, resulting in the fibre glass repair. Beware you cv owners! I could nearly write a book after only a few weeks of ownership
  5. Well I certainly do, the o/s washer must be buried in the fiber -glass. I'll have a closer look tomorrow and work out how much welding I need. Fun days are postponed
  6. My other 4 seatbelt points are sound. Do you know if the nuts are captive? Where else is classed as structural?
  7. ⁰There is no further undersea visible but a 3" washer under the n/s belt so I cleared access and took this. Bloody hell man! You can see daylight!
  8. Worse than that.... he gave it to his daughter!!! I'm being cruel may be the previous to him did that, it seems to be many years old? AND... it would have been Mot with that patch which was under-sealed and pretty solid
  9. Makes me wonder.... what else???? Still... not a massive problem I cannot find anything else that concerns me. My, that fibreglass patch is stronger than metal! Pity it was not bonded to the arch properly! Actually I'm pleased I found it. Also newish rear outriggers Surely no more nasty surprises? aaaarrrgh. Sunday afternoon!
  10. Get a look at this! The PO must have had a death wish?
  11. Here was me so happy with sorting the half shafts and looking forward to doing a little upgrade to 'pacify' the wife. No one mentions these little foibles it has in the write ups! Oh well...here we go again. First one to guess the upgrade gets a raspberry...no.no...a strawberry. I do get mixed up
  12. Uh! Thanks Gav, it is and that is just what I did not want to have to do! I'll dive in boot and see what is holding it. Maybe it comes out with all the poppers on.
  13. Ahhh. Right. thanks Pete. Into the boot tomorrow then 😷
  14. I'm out driving Plum. What a lot of people of all ages take an interest! I'm a bit shy but the wife loves it. Pity there are no other owners near me.
  15. Don't ask. :) need to remove rear seat back on the cv but cannot find anything in the manuals! any clues please. Surely not all the poppers and edge fittings? :) please bear with me.
  16. Will do. I'm just going to put a spare nut on and smash it onto a bit of hardboard on the floor, only takes half an hour and will be part of my physical training session??????????
  17. We're on the road again we're on the road again trala la la woopydee and here comes the rain!!! ( not sure if my roof re-waterproofing has worked..yet).. stuff that... I'm out for a blast after a sandwich or two Such a good feeling! Better than...... a nice cup of T.... well maybe Thank you mr wolf?
  18. Well that last step was quite easy, two scissor jacks back and front of spring, couple of spacer blocks and a cross piece to push iot up, tap tap wiggle ... all bolts in now :) Got to get morning exercise in then attach brake pipes and cable, bleed and test. Couple of hours l;ads
  19. Well....hopefully! Even if not, and the replacement half shaft is also defunct, at least I have had the pleasure of refurbishing and now am experienced at rear axle/suspension repairs! It has been worthwhile. If I need to strip it right down...so be it. I'll report in tomorrow afternoon, probably late on ATB all.
  20. Cheers Dick, I see where your coming from. It's all a bit pot luck but with experience, a limited number of choices to make. Well it's nearly back together, once I got the bushes in, I prefer to bolt flange first then shocker and arm and just lever spring up to finish. Just that spring to do but I'm exhausted and it's T time. I made batter for toad in hole. I know it's not the recommended order but easier to align the arm when your single handed :) On the road tomorrow after brake bleed and hope the "new" bearings are sound. ....??? Wish me luck.
  21. I was thinking of that. Plus squaring off the edge to facilitate fitting the rubber ring! BUT... Why should we have to do that? The damb things should be fit for purpose. It's a learning curve to see who provides decent kits and at 7-12 quid a pop it is out of order. We should create an approved list! My recommended kit should arrive tomorrow. My first supplier was mentioned near the start of this and no one commented. I will do so afterwards. Off to feed the starlings now
  22. Blaaaaah Or mayb e Baaa.......... sheep? I've got a cow next door. No milk, she just moans is my garden (maybe 10x7) big enough for chickens? I like fresh eggs
  23. Well....am I addressing country gentlemen? Very nice! I dug up my carrots and lettuce and am seeding some wildlife flowers as the bird feeder attracts rats! (Wife is deeply into birds) we only see starlings and wood pigeons with the odd blue tit and goldfinch also a Robin today! Should the steel bush slide tightly but nicely into the nylon bushes? Mine is so tight. I don't like it!...needs seriously tapping in! Getting another kit tomorrow and I'll see what that's like. Sorry to get back to the mundane
  24. Ride on mower!.... big lawn? My flymo does me Morris golden film...there is a blast from the past! having a break waiting for postie. love the car really. Once sorted and used for a while, I may p/x for vitesse mk2 or even a Stag if someone wants to "downsize " ??
