  1. I've been reading on here about oil filter fittings and got confused I thought I would need an adaptor but now I'm not sure. Here is a picture of what I have. It came off nicely with just a dribble. So.... has my 13/60 been modified to accept a 'standard' filter? Is this a good type? and does it have/need a one way flap valve?
  2. Cheers M, I'm happy my diff is just suffering 'normal' wear and tear and guess the guy wanted a 'large' job than just my UJs. I'll try elsewhere.... or even DIY (love the accent, I'm 1/4 scottish, Lakie, granny via mcdonalds from Glengarry I think.
  3. Yea, I'll back it up on ramps. Woopie I now have an operating water temp. gauge as well as interior lights!! How come that sensor was 3/8 whitworth??? Neither my AF or metric were tight enough so I found my old tool kit. It's like the tunnel bolts....they seem to be 2BA. ???. Jobs done. Time out.:)
  4. No Pete... stop deep thinking! Handbrake is excellent (rear brakes sorted for MoT a few month back), loads of meat on pads and straight discs. I have heard this sort of sound before but for the life of me I cannot recollect the cause!! I'll double check the bearings then move on to ujs. Car runs great. Loads of low down torque...near impossible to stall. I like it! Just got to get wife to appreciate toppless driving
  5. Cheers Pete, I've had a couple of wheels off and all is standard. Trims are very clean and tidy as are hub caps. Nuts are done up to my standard 'tug' - that's not too tight! Some garage windy guns are set to a massive torque! Just had a run through my estate and it is audible again! Thrum thrum thrum at 10 mph straight road light throttle. Mind.....I have fixed the interior light and door switches work now so I'm happy for the day Wife is not happy though.... the chassis is coated in some black oily greasy/gritty crud and some small blobs dropped on drive and I tramped some in house!... it's war!
  6. Eeeeeh well, after a 30 mile trip I am much more at ease. My wife could not even hear the thrumming!!! I too actually found it difficult to find a situation where it was noticeable... 5mph, right hand bend under gentle throttle....maybe.??? No change when braking or in various gears. Definitely wheel rotation speed related My previous test trips were all in my estate with semi-detached houses and walled gardens 5' away. I guess the sound was echoing back and seemingly amplifying it to such an extent it became foremost in my thoughts. Something to keep an ear on in the future Thanks for all the help and advise Lads, you are all stars........... My tyres are round btw Next step is the 1-2 mm play in steering wheel to column up down left and right. ... is that enough to require a top bush? (or MoT fail. no play in rack or joints btw, The road wheels move at the slightest rotation of the steering wheel.
  7. Thanks for that but I have checked wheel bearings and they are sound, my back plates are square with no grease visible. I'll have a bit cruise out tomorrow and try to get a better feel of what where and how the thrumming occurs. Thanks again all. I'm going to join up properly after 5th when pension arrives. ATB.
  8. Oh.... fiddlesticks... thanks guys. What a conundrum!. The noise is a thrum thrum thrum at wheel rotation speed. It happens under load and deceleration, also when going left, right or straight.???? But...not all the time..... right, ujs first. Decision made thanks all.
  9. Thought my uj's were away but no.... it is worse! It is the wear in the diff. causing my 'noises' Used my tame back street garages four poster and he found it straight away. He is an ex mechanic for Carlos Sainz when with Ford and says escort diffs had 'pins' to adjust the slack. Does the herald? It is obvious that the prop-shaft can be rotated 'quite a few degrees' before drive shafts take up the slack. Anyone need two rimmers greasable ujs? Whats next step guys? Is it 'shimmable'? do I need new innards ? Is an exchange diff available. What route have you guys taken?
  10. Just what I did Peter, door draught excluder first but it was naff, so I split an half inch rubber hose and just 'squashed' it in the top half of the bracket. Seems to take up a bit of the 'slack'. Cheers.
  11. Great Colin, please put that bit to one side for me and I will let you know if my inquiries fail, within a few days. Are the spring clips just 'springy steel' ? I'm sure I could bend something to take up the slack
  12. Canley's :- No longer available on both..... off we go on a 2nd hand hunt... unless any of you guys have them :)...??? Thanks all
  13. Thanks Neil and Kev, I will try them. It is not a thread problem, it is the splines on the stud that pull out the bottom bracket (35 in Pauls diagram)... Paul, thanks, where is that diagram from? I have some jb weld somewhere.. I'll try that Thanks. My support bracket (29) is not shaped like that!!??? More of a pair of 'S' bends, ... if I feel it right. Where does it bolt to at the top? What is that 36? I don't seem to have one? Gawd, so many little problems doing me in!!! head AND body. Humans are not designed to put their heads under dashes!!!
  14. Can anyone advise me if this is replaceable (long 'search' but no results) or has it been superseded? One of the splined bolts on mine pulls out even just finger tight. I tried superglue to no avail. The slightest downward pressure on the steering wheel causes the column to drop an inch and pull this bolt out. Mind, even when bolted as tight as I dare, there is vertical movement as the whole dashboard seems to move a few mm up and down. Is there something amiss here? where do I start looking Sorry to keep asking Jeff
  15. That clip could be from the steering rack gaiter, o/s inner, next to grease nipple!!!??? Mine has cable tie on it now but possible it has been lying about, trapped somewhere for years.??? Also found an earth wire attached under the steering rack grease nipple but is slack and rotates.?? If this is a bad connection, what will not work? My only non functioning item is the temperature gauge
  16. No Pete, just fitted new pin and spring. I'll have to put bushes in or like you say, bigger bolt. That was a waste of a fiver! What you reckon this push pull knob/switch hidden at back of glovebox is??
  17. Urghhhh. Time to get dash off and investigation started!. No sign of having had an ammeter but.... who knows previous owners unknown. does the dash normally move quite a few mm upwards? My steering column is vertically challenged!
  18. Got your drift Badwolf. I have nothing live fitted so not a problem. Might install an 8 track. I have a blaupunk lying about and loads of 'tight' tapes somewhere!!!
  19. Cheers Doug. One more query answered only two left on this post and a few more on others. This site is vunderbar and I will join properly when pension comes in this month!
  20. Found this unconnected to anything. Comes from main harness at back of battery. As far as I can tell, everything works. Book related white and brown to oil pressure warning light. Mine is fine. Any clues? P.S. what's that knob all about on battery earth? I have a hidden pull/push knob in glovebox??? May be related to vehicle security?
  21. Looks like I need a new bracket and/or pedal. Still flops about even with the new pivot and spring!
  22. Yea! I seem to have got 'a bit less' than I expected! BUT.... all is repairable or replaceable at a smaller price than I expected and my time is free and I so enjoy the feeling after the 'fix' Clutch is sound but I'll check all operating parts too....... does anyone have experience of ifs_13 on Ebay? He has a lot of bits. I'm using Rimmer bros and Canley, plus looking at club shop.
  23. Look at the wear on this!! Good mileage indicator ?? And... me springs broke!
  24. Ahhh. Cheers Colin. So much to learn. I'm still treading on egg shells. Think I need to get rough.... but no too rough
