  1. Thanks all for your input ! I may well get a secondhand one but still will tinker with this one for the time being. I'm flicking the needle and it bounces back to zero like normal but when I am actually driving, it doesn't until I flick it again. Sometimes when I take off it'll just show zero until I've reached a good 20 mph. Then it'll go up and not come down again until a flick it. It's a bit odd to say the least haha

  2. I have tried applying some oil with a cocktail stick at the back where the drive cable goes into the speedo as well as where the needle spindle sits in those bearings. The issue still seems to be there. When I take off, I must be coming up to about 30mph before the needle decides to move up from zero. I am not sure what could be wrong, does anyone have any idea ?

  3. That's great thank you both. I'll try and rotate the bezel and maybe do a bit of prising if necessary. Am I able to disconnect the wires from the back and take the gut of the speedo out through the front of the dash and try to remove the bezel afterwards once it's out ?

  4. Thank you Pete! How would I go about prising the lugs on the chrome bezel to prevent a gooey mess ? I presume once the chrome bezel loosens, the glass front will come off with it. Will the main part of the speedo only get removed if the chrome bezel and the glass are removed ? Thanks again!

  5. Hello all! I took my Herald for a long road trip the other day and all was a success and without faults except for towards the end of the journey, I noticed the speedo sticking on certain levels.

I came to a standstill at one point for a red light and according to the speedo, I was going 20mph. It moved slowly down but not to zero before I had to take off again. It seems to function well once I go above 40mph but when going less than that, it seems to just stick. Even once I turn the car off, it stays stuck at a certain level then maybe a couple of minutes later, goes back down to zero again. Does anyone know what the issue could be ?

I hope someone can throw some light on this for me, thank you!

  6. Hello folks, I am planning on masking up my Herald to respray the roof. I have a fair idea on how to go about doing it but to make sure I am not bodging anything up, is there a rough method to go by and any recommended products to use ? A step by step method would be great but even just a few tips. Thanks all !

  7. I will definitely be using a metal panel to practice on first. And yes, I have now completely decided against removing the roof, I will be respraying it in situ. Do you have any tips about how to mask the chrome trimming that is on the roof ? Would it be wise to remove the trimming so I can sand down the roof completely instead of just up until the trimming ? Thank you

  8. Hello all ! I am planning on respraying the roof of my Herald 1200 as it is looking a little bit more tired than the rest of the car. I was wondering how I would go about removing the roof and also how I would go about respraying it, could anyone please shed any light on this ? Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you !

  9. Thanks for that, upon reading that I checked both sides. Both sides are all connected and the passenger side slowly just became more and more stiff over the course of a few weeks. The wally I am thought to ignore why it may have been going stiff haha. I did notice the passenger side's action looked quite 'gunky' but not overly greasy to say the least so I have managed to put some new grease on it and it seems to be working now without feeling stiff. I have kept the door panels off in case I notice anything else. On the driver's side, for some odd reason a screw had fallen behind the area where the inner door handle lives which was why that randomly stopped moving. I have removed the screw and now both sides seem to work! Can't find where the screw came from though haha.

Thanks a bunch for the help! 😊
