  1. That’s a helpful link, thank you. There are some paint marks on the spring that could be purple and white as per the table... so perhaps they are old and tired standard front springs that have lost about 3/4 of an inch length.
  2. Just working through making the list of winter jobs on my mew to me Spitfire. When I bought it one of the things I noticed was it looks like the front springs are past there best. The rear of the car looks to me to be about an inch higher, certainly the rear of the sills are higher than the front by about 1.75 inches. Assuming they should be parallel to the ground? Front springs look really compressed, about 7.25 inches long and not much space between the coils. I dont think they are uprated springs. Think I might be putting new springs on over the winter months. Car has had a new rear spring in the past. Not sure if the back sits a little high. What sort of length would standard normal springs be when on the car? Any advice welcome!
  3. Thanks for that info, probably will pull things apart again in the future so will look to change the wires in the future to something more robust.
  4. Fresh oil and a new solenoid appears to have fixed things. Found a wire on the gear knob switch with damaged insulation so fixed that with a bit of heat shrink. Managed to run out of petrol this evening while giving it a run out to test the overdrive. My mistake😂 Thanks for all the advice.
  5. ouch... will go for cleaning before replacing
  6. Thank you all. Will drop the oil next weekend, look at the filter and valves. I just been playing and sitting and you can hear the solenoid click to engage, could not hear it click on disengagement. Just had a little drive and not clicking to engage or engage so I could suppose the solenoid has just died or is gunned up and stuck.
  7. Thank you all. I am super happy with it. Got a little issue with overdrive to fix but when all is said and done I think it will do me fine!
  8. Here is our new to us 1500 Spitfire. Really pleased with it, the past owners have done what appears to be a great job restoring and taking care of her. Had a first trip out to Caffeine and Machine this afternoon. Looking forwards to plenty more trips out in the future. Nice to have a triumph back in my garage after owning a 1500 and a MK3 GT6 perhaps 30 years or more ago. Ian
  9. Hi Just bought a Spit 1500 with OD gearbox that was fine on the test drive but I noticed on a long drive home that perhaps all isnt well. The last couple of years the car has done no real miles. Overdrive engages fine, no hesitation. On the motorway however after time its very slow to disengage from either 3rd or 4th. Seems OK for short duration on a dual carriageway switching in and out fine. Also feels like in 3rd gear without overdrive switched on then I am getting clutch slip with hard acceleration. Clutch isnt slipping in 1st and 2nd so i dont think its the main car clutch. Also it isnt doing it all the time so not sure what it is. I am hoping its related to the Hoping its something simple related to lack of use over the recent history of the car. Any ideas? Other than that I am over the moon with the car and if I can get this sorted then that is a result. Thanks in anticipation of your thoughts. Ian
  10. Thanks for all the input. Very helpful.
  11. It does feel like values are all over the place... seen Spit 1500s where he asking price is 12k for what looks a nice original car but not concourse condition. Found an even nicer looking mk2 gt6 that’s mega money.
  12. Thank you Clive, that’s really helpful!

    Values

Sorry if this is an often asked question but I can’t find an answer... After 25 years away from owning a spitfire and gt6 I think I am back in the market having made space in the garage. I was trying to find an upto date guide of what cars are perhaps worth as concours / a1 etc so I have a rough starting point. Hope to be in a spit 1500 soon if I can find the right car. Thanks Ian
