  1. The quote from the link goes (the way that I have read it) further than that - for the second point, quite right, Moss is very differently structure to Rimmer Bros.
  2. Bill and Graham of Rimmer are quoted as referring to a “merger”
  3. Personallly, I think you are all overthinking it, simply TV people trying to make some kind of entertainment based on a subject area which isn’t broadly covered. The producers are probably happy that the show is being discussed in any way, positive or negative. Maybe they are trawling through Classic Car forums for ideas on their next versions ……. Andy
  4. Hmmmm….. mine is an earlier 4, so I haven’t seen your particular type, but Moss Europe parts list states: 138308 PIPE, (nylon), replaces flexible pipe Notes: The nylon pipe replaces the flexible hose and rigid pipe in that it goes direct from the pipe (200646) to the oil pressure gauge. Listed as an 'alternative' to 202793 in the Triumph parts book, but standard on all TR4A's. These items are the same whichever filter head is fitted that implies you still need to connect the nylon pipe to 200646 which has the banjo connection on it. Don’t forget to put the copper washer with the larger hole next to the filter head, the smaller one on the outside. ……… Andy
  5. received mine today - very good, top-marks to those involved ...... Andy
  6. It is in the TSSC website classified ads now, it looks very good and I’m sure it will find a great new home - I just noticed where it is located, we will be moving nearby in May so nice to know there may be some fellow Triumph-sightings in the local area, I’ll keep my ears listening out for the familiar Burble ……… Andy
  7. There was a note in last months Courier, due to the editorial and publishing changes this months will be sent out around the middle of March. The next one will then be May as the routine settles. ……… Andy
  8. It’s an interesting question - I do my own, but I suspect as the years roll on it does get more difficult for some of us to physically do it (getting down is ok, getting up less straightforward!) I do get my car MoT’d but I don’t lose any sleep over missing it by a couple of months. I often read more examples of people checking the value of their car these days though so perhaps there are more owners who have more than a passing-interest of their car as an investment rather than a drive/fix/repeat car so the ‘fix’ part isn’t interesting for them. Changing world. ………. Andy
  9. Hi Matt, welcome to the club, your 13/60 looks very nice, have fun driving and enjoying the car ……. Andy
  10. Currently recovering from surgery so I won’t be at this one - hope it is a good day for those that will be attending ……. Andy
  11. That looks very nice indeed - drive and enjoy! …….. Andy

    Synthetic Fuels

Any prospective government has the same conundrum to solve…. They have had plenty of time to think about it and plan accordingly. There will undoubted be increases in some taxes to cover reduced revenue from fossil fuel taxes, the only open question is which taxes. (And don’t bet against reduced expenditure in parallel) …….. Regarding the charging - most EV/PHEV owners will be operating with an EV-friendly electricity tariff at their home address, in my case we pay £0.075/kWh. The theoretical Nissan Leaf charge would probably cost around £3. I completely agree that once you more into the public charging network the cost-aspects move drastically in favour of Diesel/Petrol, home-based charging is the key to real running cost savings. …… Andy

    Synthetic Fuels

It’s a bit difficult to give a 10-year view at this point, but I can confirm that the servicing costs for our PHEV are the same as that of the Petrol or Diesel versions of the car. Depreciation of course is usually the biggest cost with a new vehicle, at the moment the forecast depreciation is lower with the PHEV than the Petrol or Diesel version, although the recently revised move to 2035 for New ICE cars could alter that, although I suspect not by much. The purchase price was higher - it cost £2.5k more, but the key factor for us was that the delivery time for an ICE-only version diesel or petrol was 9-12months (all cars being received in 11months) - the PHEV was 3-6 and arrived in 4months. The vast majority of the choice was based on the delivery date! Given average mileage the price premium will be negated after a couple of years assuming nothing really wild happens with the electric/petrol/diesel differentials. At the moment we are happy with our choice, but as with everything - time will tell - and the Triumph will still be used regardless! ……… Andy

    Synthetic Fuels

My wife’s recent purchase was a PHEV - all the local trips which make up the majority of her driving are battery-powered which costs roughly 16% of the traditional fuel cost. Any longer journeys require no extra planning, simply run in petrol-mode at around 38-40mpg on a decent run - we didn’t even bother looking for a charging point while on a recent 500 mile round-trip to Cornwall. With the relatively small battery-sizes of PHEV you can easily use a 3-pin charger rather than have the expense of a dedicated charge-point being installed (we have driveway parking so can charge at home).
  18. Thanks for posting this Sue, I hadn’t heard of his passing. RIP Del, my sincere condolences to his family …… Andy
  19. I know this subject is often sensitive for some - my view is that usually, a move to electronic ignition will give you the opportunity to increase the plug-gap slightly to get a larger spark to ignite your mixture, the theory being that you stand a better chance of a more complete burn with a bigger spark (all other things being equal). In practice, the generation of a larger spark will place a little more strain on the other parts of your HT system rotor arm, dissy cap, leads so it is important to ensure these are all in good order. Personally, I run with a 30 thou gap on my 123Ignition set-up….. I know some people who have gone to 32/35 and some that have stuck with 25 - the good part is that it is your car so you can set up up however you like and discover how it works for your engine ……. Andy
  20. i'm not sure for the 6-cylinder rad i'm afraid - i have an 11" SPAL fan fitted to my TR4, with the engine-mounted fan extension removed there is enough room for a 'puller' fan mounted on the engine side of the rad on the rad itself (i have tabs on the rad for the mounting). I'm not sure on the favoured mounting of the Vitesse but i'm sure others will have some wise ideas. ...... Andy
  21. Yes, the electric fan will give you airflow through the rad even with a stationary car (assuming you mount it nice and close to the rad to ensure it the airflow goes where you want it!) ...... Andy
  22. I have always preferred my electric fan to come on a little earlier, rather than later - my logic being i don't want to be in the situation where the temp is already too high to be able to be brought down by the fan. each engine will probably have its own pattern of behaviour ...... Andy
  23. Don’t despair just yet - could well be the linkage if things have gone very loose and sloppy (cheap fix) rather than the gearbox itself (more £’s) …….. Andy
  24. Congrats on your recent purchase, a good Stag is a cracking car. DOT 3 or 5.1 fluid should mix happily with your DOT 4 sample. Therefore - based on your description - whatever is in your master cylinder does not appear to be Glycol-based and is probably silicon-based (DOT 5). That said, DOT 5 purchased these days is usually purple - but when it was first available for regular punters I do remember some brands being clear and being supplied with a label to put around the filler-cap stating what was in the system to avoid inadvertent filling. Perhaps it has been in there a long time …….. Andy
  25. It is available from Moss, I use the car as my daily so I find it very handy and doesn’t (in my view) look out of place - but those who are very keen on originality my not share my opinion.
