  1. This his should work: https://www.facebook.com/groups/659232924278450/permalink/1656012721267127/ ....... Andy
  2. If you are still interested in a 4, one has appeared today on the Triumph TR4 Group on Facebook - it looks quite interesting at a price that is probably achievable for you - located in Portsmouth (no personal interest) ........ Andy
  3. The factory upgrade was to switch to a pair of HS2’s on an 1147 Spitfire inlet and exhaust manifold - that is the path I’d go if I wanted a little more oomph from an 1147 Herald. ...... Andy
  4. Only you can answer that really - if I were looking for a car and this one was ‘talking to me’ I’d probably try and pay £16-17k and accept there was more to be spent. ..... good luck, Andy
  5. Based on your list: the chrome looks ok in the pics ; some of the body will need work over time (doors, sills - they are technically cosmetic items, boot lid, battery tray area); the panel gaps don’t look so good ; can’t really comment on mechanicals. lets be honest, pretty-much any car (except something rebuilt by a perfectionist regardless of cost) will need work done - the only question is how much effort/cost and over what timeframe. Personally, I think it is great that you are keen on a 4, they are wonderful cars (I am of course biased!) I hope you find the car that you after - whichever you choose it will be great fun ....... Andy
  6. I think you may be referring to the handbrake cable. ....... Andy
  7. I think this comes down to what kind of car you want and, if this is the sort you are after, how much is it worth. from the photographs I’d say there is certainly some future work needed to the doors and the boot lid. Those odd gaps could also mean things are a little awry with the chassis. It could be the camera angle, but was the boot floor ok? It would have left the factory with rocker cover pipework/valve to the air filters as you mentioned originally. If it doesn’t have a crankcase vent like the early cars then I’d expect some unvented pressure to be showing as oil leaks somewhere. the battery tray fix probably means something more ugly underneath and I can’t figure why the bonnet/wing drain channel has been blocked. of course, everything is fixable and could be done over time - it isn’t up for crazy money, but I’d want to be paying a fair-chunk less that the advertised price. on the plus side, the paintwork looks respectable, it has a Backlight/hardtop/Surrey, the seller hasn’t hidden anything from you, if it runs well then there could be plenty of smiles to be had ....... Andy
  8. It does look like a nice car - although that is a bigger price than I would ever consider paying. the thing that stood out to me was just how low those exhausts are sitting, when I used to fit these to Herald and Vitesses the pipework would be angled upward after the diff and the back-boxes fastened much closer to the boot floor. ..... 9. Ditto, finally picked up one of these last year - wish I’d done it years ago! ....... Andy
  10. My personal experience is the Pertronix (Aldon) Igniter has never failed on me. I have used Powerspark - the module didn’t fail, however one of the connections to the coil worked loose leaving me 15 mins late for work. I just swapped the module with wiring for the spare one I carried in the glovebox (bought as a spare because it was so cheap). I have had Lumentition Optronic fail twice on two different cars - each was replaced with an Igniter per my first comment. I have recently swapped out a perfectly good Powerspark-equipped 25D4 dissy for a 123Ignition Tune+ In my TR4.... it is running well, been wanting to do it for a while, but I have no view yet on its longevity but do have high hopes ....... 11. Confirmed as 30 attendees (plus those who will be working - pall-bearers, clergy etc.) Harry will be attending.
  12. I have the same, and a pair of straights - they are very useful

    Spark plugs

I’m with Pete on this one, I’ve always steered clear of resistive plugs after past bad experience. ...... Andy

    DVLA

I’d advise taking photographs of the document, and send it back to DVLA via recorded delivery as a simple insurance policy record of your actions in case of any future weirdness. ...... Andy
  15. great news, glad you are happy with the outcome - nice job! ......... Andy
  16. I was fortunate, on the TR wet-liner engine the tach drive comes from the pedestal which sits under the distributor - so I can keep the original mechanical drive with the 123 ....... Andy
  17. The 123tune+ (I think the tune is the same) has 10 centrifugal advance data points by default - you don’t need to use them all if your curve is simple, and I haven’t tried adding more .... I only needed 8. I think the same number is available for MAP advance (vacuum) - I have only used 5 as that was all the WSM provided as my starting point. ...... Andy
  18. The letter states that a further change to the testing manual will be issued shortly confirming the ‘no issue for pre April 86 vehicles’ (not withstanding the need to comply with the beam alignment test so that no one is inadvertently dazzling oncoming road users) Once the update is with testing stations there should be no problem on the LED/halogen question for any of our Triumph motor cars. ..... Andy
  19. The 123-Tune+ connects to your phone/tablet via Bluetooth. The 123-tune (no ‘+’) connects to a laptop via a micro-usb cable. If you don’t have a laptop you will need to choose the tune+ or the cheaper one which has 16 selectable pre-set curves (the 16 curves are fixed, but so cover quite a good range) Available from most of the usual suspects, i had an email from Rimmer Bros with a 5% discount offer on all 123’s (clearly no adverse financial impacts following the end of the Brexit transition period!). i have one arriving in the post tomorrow from Holden ....... Andy
  20. yep - try Chrome or Firefox as alternate browsers .......Andy
  21. Last time I chose a Bosch from Costco, 5 year warranty and their no-quibble exchange at a great price. Halfords are a decent option if you have a Trade Card - fair price, long opening hours and loads of branches in case you do need to use their replacement guarantee. ...... Andy
  22. Thought I’d add another variant Personally I would either use 25 or 30 thou, I would stop at 30 thou. ........ Andy
  23. Ditto...... my father had to cancel his Sunbeam Alpine order when news of my arrival broke - changed to a Herald 1200 estate, so not all bad ...... Andy
  24. You could try talk8 g to Beech Hill Garage - they do loads of work with MG’s, and have a good reputation. JY Classics used to have a good name the other side of High Wycombe. there. Use be some others nearer to home for you, I just don’t know where! good luck with the hunt...... Andy
