  1. Thanks Ian and Colin for comments. it’s a 1972 mk3 and the suspension was overhauled / rebuilt by the previous owner, the bits I can see have all got purple poly bushes in and it has a new pair of shocks on. It may be the case that something is loose from the rebuild or as you say may be alignment issues. I think it alarmed me as I thought the wobble was a wheel coming loose ! It feels tight in a corner and there is no clunking of anything . many thanks Jeremy
  2. Hi All, Thanks for all the feedback. I've managed at last to dodge the rain and go for the 1st drive since I bought the GT6 2 weeks ago. I had all tyres on 29 psi and whilst the front was fine the rear made a rather alarming wobble. Not round a corner, but just in a straight line, intermittently when going down a country lane with lumpy surface. I then stopped , put the rears up to 32 psi and it is better but still an unnerving sensation as not used to it. Even at 32 psi there is a lot of lateral movement in the side wall if I move the rear end from side to side , so wondering if I need to inflate further. Trouble I have is that having never owned or driven another GT6 before I am not sure what are GT6 quirks and what is not right. When I test drove it it was on R14 175 / 65 and these certainly did not produce a wobble. I'm also thinking that maybe the geometry has been tinkered with and if this needs sorting. Is this something straight forward for a local garage to do on the GT6. Apologies if this is all a bit numpty but don't have anything to compare too. Best Wishes Jeremy
  3. Hi All, apologies in advance as have tried looking on forum threads and google for tyre pressures for a GT6 and lots of different figures quoted. I've just put on a set of 175/70/R13 tyres and the most common GT6 stated pressures for tyres i've found on the net are 24 front and 28 rear or 21 front and 26 rear ? I appreciate it may actually need some fine tuning following road tests but an thoughts / previous experience would be gratefully recieved.
  4. Hi All, Can I ask how the bolt that fixes the seat belt stalk to the body is fixed ? Is it a bolt that fits into a reinforced threaded mount within the body or does it bolt straight through to the underside with a spreader plate and nut on the underside ? If the latter, from experience, can you get to the bolt without removing the exhaust as seems to be tucked up in the transmission tunnel ? Apologies, have not got myself a decent set of ramps / car lift to get underneath yet Many Thanks Jeremy
  5. Hi Dick, just sent you a message . Many thanks . Jeremy
  6. Hi All, Having bought a new door strap to fit to the passenger side of the GT6, now realise that it should have a bracket in / on the pillar. Have had a quick look for a new one and I think it is another discontinued item - now realising why the jobs left by the previous owner are as such ! Don't suppose any one on the forum has a spare one ? Many Thanks Jeremy
  7. Evening all, my hazards are not working and I have found this tucked below the passenger side dash. It’s not the indicator relay as have found that ok. is this the hazard relay ? If so, it says 6v as opposed to 12 v ? I assume that means I need a 6v replacement and if so can anyone point me in the right direction as have only seem to have found 12 v ones from normal suppliers. many thanks jeremy
  8. Hi all, had my GT6 a week and having never dinged a car in the garage low be behold something has managed to drop off a shelf and ding the rear quarter of the car . I am pretty gutted ! I think it was a rampaging squirrel knocking a paint canister off. anyway , I’m was not worried about paint as the car needs a full respray but I am rather anxious about the dent. I’d just like to know views / opinions from others experience as to how easily it is fixed at the point of respraying ? pics below and just trying to suss out of it could be pulled out from the surface by a body shop or if it is a filler job. I’ve had a look from inside the car and I think it is doubled skinned in that area and no way of getting acces to try and tap it out from underneath . if it could be improved by being pulled up from the surface I would probably take it to a body shop to get done in advance of a respray which I had planned for next year any advice welcome as pretty annoyed with thanks jeremy
  9. Cheers Keith , can I go for £15 vinyl still attached. I’ll send a message with address and payment etc . Thanks once again
  10. Evening , Can I ask is the H panel that sits below the dash in a central position and on top of the gear box cover the same on the GT6 as it is the Spitfire ? Just missed out on one on the fleabay whilst I was trying to work it out. Second question is that does anyone have a GT6 one kicking around that I could purchase ? Also assuming you can recover them. I remember doing this on a TR6 Many Thanks Jeremy
  11. Cheers Both, thought as much and will go down the suggested after market route .
  12. Hi All, I am missing what I assume is a plastic clear cap that would be the roof mounted interior light behind the passenger seats. I've tried to find one from the main suppliers but I if I am looking for the right thing appears to be out of stock. May I ask : 1. Does anyone know who supplies it and what is the part number 2. If they are not rare as unicorns, does some one have one they would be willing to part with Many Thanks Jeremy
  13. Thank you all for the support and guidance and as an update / closure : 1. Have tightened up all bolts and swapped a couple for new that were a bit ropey 2. Tried piercing the gasket where the two bolt holes on the cover plate are and it is solid so assume I have a later timing cover and older alloy block I think it will be a case of living with it for the summer ( as just got the car) and when winter approaches I will attempt to install the new steel block and new gaskets. Hoping that it is not the gasket behind the timing plate. Many Thanks once again. Jeremy
  14. Thank you all , can I ask if there is a specific torque setting for the bolts in question ? best wishes jeremy
  15. Ad Adrian, thank you ever so much for the pics and encouragement, pics speak a thousand words and can really helpful. Cheers
  16. Thanks All for the advice and guidance , have just done the baby talc technique and pic attached. I guess it is radiator out and then careful dismantle of fan etc to get to the point of being to pull off cover. I have a Haynes manual arriving mid week so won’t do anything until I’ve read through and done more google research . If anyone could send me the link to the steel upgrade piece that would be great. just curious about the circle on the lower left that looks like it has oil in it , is this meant to have a bolt in it ? cheers
  17. Thanks Matthew, will PM you when able to collect. Cheers
  18. Many Thanks, Sound advice and I will investigate tomorrow . Cheers
  19. Hi All, My recently acquired MkIII has had an engine re-build in the very recent past (before my purchase) and prior to me buying I checked and checked for Oil seepage and was clean. A couple of slightly spirited drives by me since and I have a very noticeable oil leak from somewhere above the sump where the sump meets the block and timing chain cover. I've been reading quite a lot on an American forum as to causes and I am just wondering , am I opening up a pandara's box if I take off the cover to investigate and what is the point of no return ? I'm fine with taking things off, new gaskets, re-sealing but new oil seals extraction and replacement and any notion of knocking a timing chain out of place and re-setting is beyond me and best I use a knowledgeable TR mechanic . If the latter, does anyone know of a knowledgeable / reputable TR specialist (on GT6s) within a hour or so of Oxford . With Thanks Jeremy
  20. Brilliant, thanks for the swift replies !!!
  21. Just bought myself a GT6 Mk III and a newbie to the forum. Apologies in advance as there will be a plethora of questions. One of may if I may: My car has a set of after market 14" rims on that are secured with bolts from the front. The previous owner gave me a set of the original 13" steel rims which I wish to put on asap, but I am unsure as to the best place to obtain the set of 16 studs that are knocked in from the rear. Could anyone point me in the right direction and I am also mindful of not ordering ones that are too long as I want to be able to feed the back ones in without too much trouble if that is possible. I also have the chrome centre caps to go on as well and not sure if that effects the type / length of stud required Thanks in advance Jeremy
  22. Hi All, Just bought myself a GT6 Mk III and a newbie to the forum. Apologies in advance as there will be a plethora of questions. First one if I may: I don't have a tacho cable installed on the car at present, which part number / car model do I order ? is it from a TR6 or a Spitfire as I can't seem to find a specific GT6 one looking on the usual suppliers website. Apologies if this is an obvious question Thanks in advance Jeremy
