  1. That does look good actually but I guess requires some custom fabrication.
  2. Hi all, My GT6 currently has no bumpers - this is how it was when I bought it. I can't make my mind up if I should buy a set or not. I put my Photoshop skills to good use to mock up what it would look like. What's the verdict?
  3. The source of my blown fuse was the overdrive wiring, but wasn't sure where abouts so i uncovered the gearbox and overdrive to understand how it's all connected. I have a J-Type overdrive and it's wired up in series without a relay. I've read this is ok due to low current draw of the J-Type solenoid. But one more reason to upgrade my fusebox. I think i've narrowed the problem down to the column switch. I decided i would disconnected the switched live from the column switch and see if the fuse still blew. As soon as i flicked the switch it blew, so now to try and figure out how to fix/replace it. 20220816_202249.mp4
  4. @Pete Lewis sounds like a good idea. In that case my next project might be what you're suggesting @dougbgt6 @Stratton Jimmer thanks! I love the looks of these cars, it's amazing to have one after wanting one for years. Also, thanks for checking your fuses, for the time being hopefully i'll be alright with Halfords 35A glass fuses in that case
  5. Nice car! Personally i'm a fan of the black plates...
  6. So good news and bad news. First the good news, shes lives! Got the exhaust on after some manipulation and put everything back together including the freshly cleaned and reassembled carbs. It runs well and starts up straight away, previously it took a while to fire up, so that must be good news. I would like to get a professional to take a look though as i'm not 100% confident in my carb setup. I got them balanced as best i could using a flow meter. I also played around with the idle mixture screws until it idled nicely, but i did notice a bit of black smoke on a couple of occassions, i think it happened when i blipped the throttle. I think i'll also get a pro to check the timing. Now for the bad news, took it out for a drive on this beautiful evening, met my friend at the pub and took him out in it... and of course it was at this point i had my first break down - in the worst place as well - on an uphill bend on a national speed limit fast country road. First priority was to move to safety, my friend stood on the corner and warned traffic of my presence, 3 very kind people stopped to help push me to a safe place. I wish i could get all their numbers to buy them beer. Turns out i simply blew a fuse, but what caused it to blow i don't know. Seemed to happen on hard acceleration up the hill. It was the top of the 3 fuses (17A continuous / 35A blow) which services the fuel pump (hence breakdown, i ran out of fuel) and a few other things that i'm yet to determine. I think finding the cause of the blow is going to be a pain. Anyway thats the latest update from me!
  7. Back again after another busy few weeks, was away from home visiting the missus' family in Bulgaria. I'm having a nightmare with this blooming exhaust manifold. Whilst i was away i got a local metal worker to open up the exhaust ports on the new one. At the same time i asked him if he could try and weld up the crack in the old one so i have options. I spent tuesday evening wrapping the new manifold in DEI exhaust wrap. Didn't do the best job but it'll do. Then i went to fit the new exhaust and put everything back together, and discovered that my intake runners clash with the flange on the new exhaust and i dont have a dremmel or the appropriate tools to modify it. No bother, i'll just fit the old repaired manifold back on instead, it looks a better design anyway. So i cleaned up the whole thing with a wire brush and painted it a nice silver with high temp paint, got it looking good. Went to fit it and it no longer fits. Where it has been welded, the pipes have pulled together a few milimeters and no longer fit on the studs. What a waste of time. If anyone has any suggestions im all ears.
  8. Hi all, another update after a busy month. @Pete Lewis yes, it looks like it has had the external rocker feed done. See pics below. My exhaust finally arrived from rimmers and I also completely disassembled and cleaned the carbs using an ultrasonic cleaner. I bought some weber service kits and refreshed all gaskets and seals. The exhaust port openings on the new manifold are much smaller than my current one; 25x32mm vs 30x36mm on the old one. I hope this doesn't affect performance.
  9. I'm back with more updates. Still waiting for the exhuast from rimmers. In the meantime i did a couple of things; fitted T-Piece Fuel Unions for the Webers, did a Compression Test, Inspected cylinders with a borescope. I did the compression test cold since i've removed the exhaust and intake. Based on my rough interpretation of the gauge the results were: 1. 185 2. 180 3. 179 (169 first try) 4. 180 5. 180 6. 171 (174 first try) It was bit low in 3 and 6, so i re-tested them. The results seem acceptable to me. Regarding the borescope inspection, I know there's supposed to be honing marks in the cylinders, but the scoring looks pretty deep, what do you guys think? 2022_05_17_18_55_29.mp4
  10. JohnD/NonMember, very interesting reading thanks! I'll stick with what i've ordered. So project today was painting the intake manifold and I also wanted to test the fuel pump (Facet Universal Pump), it took 38 seconds to fill 100ml of fuel, and it wasn't a consistent flow. I think it might be down to the position of the pump, it is quite high up, in line with the top of the fuel tank. I think i should relocate the pump. This test was just running from battery power.
  11. I have a question for you knowledgable people, what are the benefits of the 6-3-1 vs the 6-2-1? I've ordered the Phoenix 6-3-1 from Rimmers, but i'm questioning that decision now. The 6-2-1 from the Club Shop is considerably cheaper, looks simpler/potentially easier to install and less points of potential failure. In my mind 6-2-1 seems like it would better for performance as well but i must be wrong otherwise why would they sell the 6-3-1. Would love to hear your thoughts!
  12. Thanks for the responses all, I think i'm going to bite the bullet and get the RG1304DELUXE 6-3-1 manifold as suggested by people above. That's with the twin tipped sports rear silencer. I'll order it, but have no idea when it might arrive its been on back order since January. Along with the DEI Heat Wrap, thats a comfortably over £1k... ouch. https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID008015 I prefer the look of the twin tips, rather than the large bore exhaust, plus if the large bore is as loud as my current system, i would need to fit a bolt on muffler to be allowed on Goodwood Circuit. The source of my exhaust leak was at the 3 into 1 join as can be seen in the pics. The new system seems like it will be more durable in that area since there's no join there. I just pray that it will fit, since my car is a 2.5l hence the block is a bit longer i believe and space is very tight between the block and chassis frame. Those little wing nut bolts under the manifold as an absolute PITA to get to, i don't know how i'm going to get them tight when i put the new exhaust on. Anything i should do while I have the intake & exhaust manifold off? I plan to give everything a bit of a clean, plus i'm going to paint the intake runners.
  13. Hi all. Firstly, I need to apologise for disappearing off the face of the earth. It's been 9 months since I last posted, where that time has gone I don't know. Time to give you an update on my car! I took your advice and just drove the thing and enjoyed it. I got some good use out of it last year over the summer. I'll post some pics and vids below! I think the mayo was down to condensation as many of you suggested as it disappeared after some good drives. In October I had a small issue, one of the core plugs corroded through and was leaking coolant (see pic). That was a nice and easy fix thankfully! Pulling out the old plug and putting a new one in was much easier that I was expecting. I then flushed the coolant and replaced. My latest issue is a blowing exhaust so I will try and fix replace that soon as I'd like to get the car out again now spring has sprung! GT6.mp4
  14. Thanks all for the advice & the pics, I will try all of the above and keep you updated
  15. So I opened up the catch can and it's full of mayo, a bit concerning. It doesn't have anything inside, literally just a can. This looks like more than just condensation. What do you think? In any case i need to do a compression test as that may determine whether an engine rebuild is on the cards anyway. Also want get that oil thermostat fitted.
