  1. Well hello again everyone, it's been quite some time. The mechanic has FINALLY gotten back to me with some news. They believe they've got it working and the issue was simply a blocked carb! Which does make sense as i was having issues in a previous thread in which i believed there to be a vaccum leak or some kind of air intake related issue. He said he'll call me again tomorrow with more news. He did say on the phone that he would pay for the wiring loom so that seems ok...hopefully the end bill isn't too high. It's a shame i broke down on the roadside and had recovery take it to the garage. If it was still at home i imagine we all would've reached the conclusion that it was the carb by now. Anyway will keep posted here if needs be but if not, I can finally put this mammoth thread to bed. The only sad news is that i now have to sell the car as soon as i get it back as i'm away for 6 months and have no decent storage. Wish i had more time with it over summer but such is life!
  2. Well yeah this is the thing, i mean i have never had that issue when attempting to fix the car...god knows what they were doing. When he rings me back i will ask about liability insurance.
  3. Latest update. Finally heard back from the mechanic. They set the car on fire. Yep. Not kidding. They said they were trying to start it and the wiring loom caught on fire and melted some of the bulkhead, now i have to get an electrician to redo all of the wiring costing £450. They said they are willing to split the cost of that with me...honestly don't know what to think or do. I bet this is a new problem as well and it wont even fix the original issue...
  4. Solenoid is new as well as it fried a couple months back, starter Motor is relatively new, was fitted by a previous owner but definitely is newish. anyway regardless of the starter motor the same issue still persists, I caved in and sent it off to the garage for someone to look at.
  5. No click anymore nothing at all, it was clicking earlier but not now, he tried a jump pack on the battery and still nothing
  6. I just trickle charged the battery 2 days ago and the battery is very new
  7. Roadside recover came out, needed me to try back it up so he told me to put it in reverse and try bump it on the starter motor, worked once now the car won’t even turn over…has he just broken my starter motor 😭
  8. Yeah the problem must be completely unrelated as the fuel flow is fine with the pump. It really must be something buggered inside the engine that I don’t have the knowledge or tools to access @Dick Twitchen The filter is brand new and is fitted in the direction of the arrow.
  9. It is pointed downward yeah, well no clue what the issue is with the car now then.
  10. Popped bonnet filter is full to the brim guessing this isn’t normal? Maybe pump psi too high?
  11. Yep 5 mins up the road, get up in to fourth gear, engine cuts out lol 😂 unbelievable
  12. Okay makes sense, I think because I didn’t have it before it startled me a bit but that was obviously due to the broken pump. Anyway off for a drive now fingers crossed I don’t have to get towed!
  13. I’ve got a couple rubber circled actually I’ll use those, good idea thanks. And yes a record indeed! I did wake up today to a small leak from one of the connections, took it off and notice the tank seems to just push out fuel by itself now, the tank must be pressurised or something? I’ve bent the pipe over a Jerry can to avoid losing any fuel. IMG_5198.MOV
  14. I finally have wheels again !!!! thankyou obnoxiously loud electric fuel pump! Still need to check the pressure and go for a drive tomorrow but it seems we’re in business for now, happy to sleep on this note. IMG_5191.MOV
  15. Yeah I’m just gonna go with electric pump, I ordered a 2 - 4 psi one although that may even be too high but we’ll see
  16. The pump still has the 6mm pipes with olives, they’re just running in to the rubber tubes, but yeah that seems to be the issue. I’ve popped it out and in a few times, and the fact that I can operate the manual pump when it’s fitted probably implies that it’s not fitted correctly. I’ll take a look with an electric pump and then if the problem persists then it must be something else.
  17. Well In that case I’m fully out of ideas. I suppose my options are to buy a spacer and try the new fuel pump again…or reluctantly buy an electric fuel pump which to be honest I’m leaning more towards since it will just route past the issue…and probably introduce a load more
  18. I’m using a short lever. But anyway regardless, my fuel flow is clearly crap compared to the manual pump so I need to find out why that is and why it randomly started happening after 8 months of no problems
  19. Not a bad idea to check the diaphragm, I’ll take the top off and crank it now and show you how much it moves
  20. Manual spurts, still seems to be a bit of a break in the middle where it dribbles a bit? oh and @KevinR I’ve attached a picture of the pump too. IMG_5152.MOV
  21. Yeah the old pump doesn’t have a spacer. I wanted to check the new pump one last time before disregarding. You’re correct in saying the new one probably needs a spacer but not a problem as the old one seems to work when installed. beloe is a video of the fuel coming out to the carb but going in to a container, I’m not certain what the flow is meant to look like i also attached a video of the fuel filter with the old pump, (note that I’m not revving at all the car is doing that on its own until it eventually cuts out) just incase that shows anything useful to diagnosis IMG_5147.MOV IMG_5149.MOV
  22. Okay making notes as I go: today I first tried Jerry can > filter > old pump. The pump fits on with barely any resistance whatsoever. I manually pumped some fuel in to the filter. Note that I was able to use the manual pump whilst it was installed on the engine block. Took the hose off at the carb at sucked fuel through to the carb. started up the engine and it ran for about a minute or so. The fuel pump was pumping. gave it some revs and then it just idled until it died. next I tried Jerry can > filter > new pump fitting it on had a LOT of resistance compared to the old pump. I cannot operate the manual pump lever whilst this new pump is installed, it does nothing. Sucked fuel through at the carb again, however this time it was a real struggle to get the fuel to the carb, I had to suck for ages until it finally bubbled on through. Started the car, it struggles to start then kicks in for maybe 3 - 5 seconds. I managed to quickly look at the filter and it appeared that the pump was working again somewhat, I took a video of me trying to start and Rev before dying, using the new pump. all in all it seems like…the pump, nor fuel lines are the issue. Right back at the start of the thread again! 😒 currently completely out of ideas of the issue. IMG_5145.MOV
  23. Yeah it works manually, havent been able to check yet if it works when installed but praying that it does when i get the next chance to test!
  24. Just come across this post in a facebook group with the exact pump i have 😂 not filling me with confidence. Will try both pumps soon with airtight setup and see if new one needs a spacer.
  25. Well i decided to use the new pump anyway, the old pump can be my backup. Bringing back this previous point though...the difference in length and shape of the arms is concerning. I do feel like it's possible that i have the wrong pump and this may be affecting the issue somewhat. If anything would it not increase the pressure at which the pump operates by the arm being too long?
