Jonny, yes starting from cold using some choke is okay and the engine will warm up normally.
But when the engine is hot the engine will either start momentarily and then cut out or will not start at-all so I have to resort to Easy Start.
Thanks for your advice re a compression test.
Pete, also noted re running rich.
Will carry out some more investigation.
Thanks

The engine cuts out after a short run and stop, then refuses to restart unless I revert to using Holts Easy Start keeping the throttle full open then turning the engine over.
The car is fairly new to me. Once running the engine runs well. I wonder if it is running a bit rich as checking the plugs reveals a dark black surround although the electrodes themselves seem okay.
Have checked the battery and the alternator is working okay. Before I start replacing parts which may not need replacing any tips as to how to proceed much appreciated.
Thanks

Hello, I am looking for a garage to store a classic car (a Triumph); I live in Southampton so somewhere nearby if possible.
Some of the classic car storage firms are not great on being able to access the car e.g. have to give notice in advance which I can see as restricting.
Don't mind sharing a facility with like minded folk.
Thanks

Many thanks for replies; sensible approach which I will follow.
Thanks again

Has anyone added a wind deflector to their open top? I see Rimmers sell one for the Spitfire RL1633 and I was wondering if they make a difference in terms of buffeting etc?
Any tips appreciated
Thanks

Hi , being a new purchase my Mk4 Spitfire seems to run quite hot so (and not being particularly technical) I am looking at Rimmers catalogue and I see a larger (22in) radiator conversion and also I see electric fan kits (such as Revotec or Kenlowe).
So any tips appreciated in terms of members addressing this cooling issue with their Triumph, Spitfire or otherwise.
E.g. which one or both would folk suggest I use or try first ?
Many thanks

Danny, Colin and Josef, many thanks for the feedback, the photo also very useful, seems obvious now!
Yes the tonneau from Rimmers has fasteners along the top of the doors but I may just do without fitting poppers there, I think the dash top will suffice.
Thanks again.

So the good weather has finally arrived 🤔; so I have removed the hard top on my Spitfire mk4, purchased a tonneau from Rimmers together with
617298
TONNEAU BRACKET & PEG OUTER (SINGLE) x4, together with 4 separate pegs 617296, for securing the tonneau to the top of the dash but how do I fit the pegs ?
Does it mean removing the dash top, drilling and refitting ?
Any clues much appreciated
Thanks

Thanks for your kind responses. Forums very useful and some real Triumph know-how in evidence.
Will gradually get to know the car mechanically and the local club meets in due course.

Just to say hello. I am a new member having just purchased a 1973 yellow Spitfire. The car has spent its life in Yorkshire but now lives in Southampton.
It has an interesting history and a note of appreciation to the previous owner for his sympathetic restoring of the car following its storage for the previous 20 years (and total of 500 miles in that time).
Would be interested to learn of a good mechanic/garage in the Portswood/Southampton area to help look after the car as required going forwards.
Hope to attend some TSSC meetings in due course.

For my 73 Spitfire Mk4 I have purchased a Moto Lita Steering wheel 14" wood flat thick together with a Boss Moto Lita Spitfire 79ON both from Rimmer Bros.
So now before fitting it I noticed the horn boss on the new SW does not accommodate the horn which is the original (I think) centre push on the original SW.
Has anyone carried out this work and could offer any tips re the horn but also things that need to be considered before fitting the new SW?
Many thanks

I have just recently bought a 1973 Mk4 Spitfire and one of the first things I thought about was to consider fitting an electric (Kenlowe?) fan.
I am also new to the forums so I guess this topic has come up before.
Has anyone carried out this conversion to an electric fan in a Mk4 and can share some information on it?
Thanks
John

Thanks for the feedback on the Spitfire starting problem ; so after further investigation the culprit turned out to be the Accuspark ignition kit - once this was replaced starting issue disappeared.
It threw me as I was still getting a spark at the plug but to be honest I just did not consider the electronic ignition initially although now I seem to remember reading they can fail now and then and to carry a spare in the car !
Learning continues !
