  1. i would check the clutch first, how low is your clutch pedal when it is hot. i find topping up the gearbox while lying on my back a real faf so usually take of the g/box cover and do it from the top.
  2. i agree with pete !,one tip though is to warm up the engine a bit before spraying it with gunk or jizer and the oil and gunge comes off easier and drys quickly i find pressure washing to to fierce and messy and is really not necessary. cheers
  3. hi all, would fitting a courier spring make much difference to the ride and handling ?,seems cheaper than a canley kit. cheers
  4. i went to the regular white lion antiques classic car breakfast in hartley witney yesterday--great turnout probably over 200 cars over the morning but no vitesses, spitfires or heralds apart from my 13/60.there were a couple of nice stags and one gt6. are they all in hibernation ? the next meeting is on the 14th june and it would be nice to see some more triumphs there, its a great morning out on a nice day and hartley witney is easy to get to for people living in the hampshir/surrey/ berkshire and west london areas. hope to see you there! cheers
  5. i had the same problem and it was traced to the accuspark electronic ignition breaking down when hot.
  6. thanks for the suggestions but i think i will leave well alone for a while for my temper to recover.
  7. i thought i had fixed it but the next day same thing ! i removed steering wheel and cleaned the slip ring and double checked all the connections and earths with still no joy. desperation was setting in and just before i took a large hammer to the car i disconnected the right hand horn and eureka the other horn works perfectly, connected the horn again and both horns did not work so disconnected the r/h horn again and the l/h horn works fine. not understanding electrics very much i cannot figure out why this is happening,so i will leave the r/h horn disconnected as the l/h one is loud enough.
  8. i think i have cracked it--put a blob of solder on to the brass pencil and filed it down neatly now all works ok touch wood! cheers

    heads up

spitfire 1500 carb and manifold plus a new looking 13/60 carb as a collect only in aldershot job lot on ebay finishing tomorrow for £50 at the moment--seems a good buy even just for the 13/60 carb. cheers
  10. had another look at the horns today cleaning all the connections again and running another earth (no difference ) .the problem seems to be at the horn push,i cleaned the pencil and tried to stretch the spring. now it seems to have a mind of its own--sometimes it works fine then 5 minutes later without touching it it doesnt grrr thanks for the suggestions so far.
  11. my horns will only work if the engine is running not with just when the ignition is on. i have cleaned all the connections to the horns i can see including the column earth, i must be losing power somewhere --anyone got any ideas? cheers
  12. i have fitted a buzzer kit from andy capy who supplies the mg owners club with electronic kit. look him up on line and phone your order asking for the wire to be extended to reach the indicator relay if it is fitted behind the battery he is a top guy and very helpful,it is easy to fit and works fine. the wiring is different to the mg but quite obvious to fit
  13. hi all, does anyone know a mobile welder in the west london/surrey area please to do some minor welding on my 13/60. cheers
  14. Hi I want to take off my offside sill. I can see the screws along the door space but what holds the rear bit to the body? Cheers
  15. further to my last post the only ignition on live feed I can find in the engine compartment is to the coil--would connecting the relay to the live side of the coil cause any problems? any electrical geniuses out there. cheers
  16. thanks Richard, I do not have a fuse bank on my 13/60 as far as I can see--the only live point that I can find connected to the ignition circuit is to the coil. I am going to use the excellent diagram you posted to wire up the relay when I can wire it into the ignition as at the moment the fan keeps on running after the engine is switched off. cheers
  17. hi all , I have fitted the accuspark fan kit to my13/60 and have wired it direct from the battery to the thermo switch without a relay as directed by accuspark--I did phone them to check and they say a relay is not needed but I have my doubts so I am going to fit a relay before the thermo switch. is there some where in the engine compartment where I can pick up a ignition controlled feed or do I have to run a wire to the ignition switch. the fan is set to come on at 95c and seems to run a lot but the car does not seem to overheat. cheers
  18. hi Richard, I would be very interested in the ealing mobile mechanic too as I I live quite close to ealing,I do not know how to do a pm so could you send me one please. cheers
  19. thanks for your advice guys. I swopped them today, thought it would take about a hour but ending up taking 3-5 hours---usual story seized nuts, difficulty in getting a spanner on some of the nuts etc. have not tried it out yet,i hope it is worth the bruised knuckles and swear words. cheers
  20. hi all, I am going to change my engine mounts tomorrow,do I just remove the nuts and jack up the engine off the mounts--it looks like the offside one will be easier to get at I I remove the bottom hose. any advice appreciated. cheers.
  21. wow --so much info, the gauge reads about the same as it did before I fitted the recon rad etc. and whether the car is cruising at 60mph or in traffic makes little difference ( new rad fitted because it was leaking ). there does not seem to be much difference to the gauge reading whether the fan is working or not,the fan is wired the correct way around and pushes the cooler air from the front through the rad.the fan is set to run at about 93C and runs for a few minutes after the engine is shut off which I think is normal. I think I will order a new temp sender and report back after it is is fitted thanks to all for your help. ps what temp should the engine run at ? cheers
  22. hi all, I am still working on the cooling /heating system on my 13/6o and yesterday fitted a new radiator and electric fan which seem to work fine. today I drove to the white lion breakfast meeting ( great turn out ) I am a bit concerned that the temp gauge sat at 3/4 up the gauge and sometimes nearly into the red--is this normal? the thermostat has been changed and the system flushed through and the car does not seem to boil up. I am wondering if the sensor could be duff or perhaps the voltage stabiliser even though the fuel gauge seems fine. what does team think.
  23. hi all,i am going to fit an accuspark fan and thermo switch to my 13/60. the tightwads at accuspark do not enclose any instuctions !!! so I have no idea what temp I should set the switch to. can anyone help please. cheers
