    Silly question time!

Freelander studs are M12 - but what nuts should you use on alloys? 1.25mm or 1.5mm? Or something else!

thread pitch of the nuts needs to match the studs ,  has no bearing on the wheel , the type of seat is massively important    your wheels may use cone , ball ,spigot or washer faced

if you use cone seat nuts on wheels designed for ball  you'll never get them off without drilling the stud out !  drilling 16 or 20 studs out is not fun .

check with demon tweeks or mini sports . upgrade to a 12mm stud  , ford 92 and 95 transit

check also trsuk.co.uk     just need stud length and spline diameter   m12 x 42mm are about 2 quid each , need nuts too there about 70p each .

    a worthy upgrade

    Mick,

What other forum is it? It's the Ali body around the jet that is proud of the carb bridge body and I'm not sure if that's part of the jet holder assembly.

    Cheers

  4. what exact model fan do you have ?  what diameter ,? is it a puller or pusher ?

there unifan range (NLA)  can run from 4 amps to 40 amps {running) depending on specification .

Kenlowe only supply fans to vehicle manufacturers/engineering companies and field replacements for existing specialist applications. KENLOWE no longer make or supply thermo electric fan packages for retrofit on individual cars for the automotive aftermarket.

Hi Pete, I’ll look out for the port and take the cap off it, that will be a good test, I think my mate has got a pressure tester I could screw on. That’s great gen, thanks very much.

when pressure testing you need a dummy cap  the spring and ball under it has to be in the correct position  or you wont get any pressure reading , its done a 20mph too

  6. on one of my other forums this has been discussed before , have you bought aftermarket jets as diameter can be wrong and the nut doesnt control it well ?   check thickness of washers between carbs .

suppliers supply a 1mm washer as standard  some cases it too thin .

any hydraulic or fuel injection agent can supply thicker washers

The actuating arm on the fuel pump for early Mk1 2L is different from the later ones which is the same as Mk2 2L.

Easy enough to change the arm.

the ac delco glass top pump , theres only 1 pump but around 25 different levers to fit other makes / models .was even used for some diesel engines ,car /boat and air

I have started having similar problem with 1600cc Vitesse based Spartan.  Car going like a dream, but stop for more than 10 mins when hot and she will not start on key until cool again.   I have bump started her a couple of times and carried on with the day out.

The car starts fine from cold, where do I start looking?

1st thing check that the coil is wired correctly ,  if you think the electronic  ign is playing up dont fit accu spark , 123 or chinese surefire . fit either aldon or illuminetion !!

  9. when replacing the body on the frame the process is :

1: fit bonnet and square to frame ,

2: fit front tub and square to bonnet .

3: fit doors and square  to front tub

    4: fit rear tub

5:  ignore manuel for mounting height  square to other body parts  shim /pack to frame to suit .

    6: fit roof

7: re adjust every thing again as fitting the roof changes everything  including how your coffee tastes

Here's a YouTube video all about tightening NGK spark plug, posted by a company called Niterra...who used to be known as NGK Spark Plug Co. so might just know what they are talking about!

this is for modern alloy heads ,   ,figures as per my chart differenciate  the difference between cast iron and alloy heads         ,   mick

  12. how tight .?  well just torque to it over a coffee .?

    3 x dugga duggas  ?

Most spark plugs (flat seat with gasket type) have a 'crush washer' or gasket which becomes compressed during the initial installation, this allows around half a tightening turn of the plug to be made once contact between cylinder head and gasket has been established. Once the gasket has contacted the cylinder head we would term it is 'finger tight'. Subsequent reuse of the plug will allow only one twelfth of a turn to be made after contact due to the gasket already having been compressed and as a result installation torque being reached much more quickly. Failure to observe this guideline may result in a damaged plug or cylinder head - to the extent of fracture or thread stripping. At best, an overtightened plug will not perform correctly - the spark plug's internal components will be 'stretched' and may not be able to dissipate heat correctly thus effectively increasing the heat range of the plug, making it run hotter and possibly overheat. Plug and engine damage may result..

If using a tapered (conical, without gasket) seat plug type, after contact of the 'shoulder' or mating surfaces of the spark plug and cylinder head is made, only one sixteenth of a turn should be applied. This applies to both new and re-used taper seat type plugs (common in Ford engines). In certain circumstances tapered seat spark plugs can be prone to seizing, this applies especially to certain models of Ford Fiesta and Ka. The best way to guard against problems of this type is to remove plugs midway between recommended service intervals and ensure that any corrosion is cleaned up before replacing.
