  1. Very true, and prior to the new box going in it was a fibre glass tunnel with no soundproofing so it was quite loud. Much better now
  2. Well that spiralled off in many interesting directions! Thanks for all the comments. I think I’m going to enjoy the summer with it and then take stock. I went out in it yesterday with the newly soundproofed tunnel in place and to be honest, the noise is not that noticeable. So will the whine outweigh the agro of replacing the box? and from the comments, I could be in a similar position if I do replace it A decision for October/November I reckon thanks again
  3. Hi all Just a sanity check please. I bought a recon gearbox (reputable supplier) and it’s now installed. Works fine, but I appear to have a real whine on third when accelerating. I spoke with the supplier who has suggested it may need time to bed in (200-300 miles) Has anyone experienced this before and did a whiny box settle down? The supplier was quite happy to exchange the box if it continues so I’m not overly concerned thanks in advance
  4. Many thanks for all the advice. I’m now off to do some online shopping
  5. Hi, With the car in several pieces due to a gearbox replacement, I thought I would insulate the inside of the gearbox tunnel to make it a little quieter but I can’t seem to find a good provider of the insulation. Does anyone here have any recommendations where I could get some please? Thanks in advance M
  6. Thanks very much for the advice. (and hope you are restored to fitness soon Peter 😀)
  7. Many thanks for the advice
  8. Hi, This is a follow on to a posting I put up last year. I think my gearbox needs overhauling, it’s getting very noisy and will jump out of reverse. I have rebushed the lever, and it still does it so it’s definitely the box. Last year, I came to the conclusion I was going to continue to enjoy the car until the box failed. In the last couple of runs out I have also noticed an occasional (but total) lack of resistance from the clutch pedal so I reckon that will need doing too. I don’t think I have the skills to overhaul the box myself, so I’m looking for any recommendations for good companies who can do it for me. (South east, Kent or SE London way) Thanks in advance, I really appreciate the great advice that fellow members offer 😀
  9. Thanks 1969mk3, so to be sure absolutely, I’m going to have to take a look
  10. Thanks both. That’s really helpful 😀
  11. Thanks Iain and Dick, is that Blackcircles or are Blacklines a different company? Also re the tubes, I didn’t think they needed them, but they were fitted so I’m unsure. Is there any definite way of telling?
  12. Hi, I have to replace my tyres on my Herald 13/60. They are 145/80 R13 and they have tubes which will also need replacing. Any suggestions for companies that supply and fit (preferably on the drive)? I’ve seen that longstone supply but I would still need them fitting. Also as a matter of interest, how can you tell if your wheels need tubes? My first Herald, many years ago I’m sure had none and it was an older model than the one I have now Many thanks in advance
  13. Not yet. I’ll probably have to but in my very simple mind, if the latch moves up and down freely the door is open (I can see it) I assumed it would work fine when closed.🤔
  14. Hi Colin, thanks for the reply. It really doesn’t need a heave to open from outside, it opens fine. Inside, when I pull the lever back in won’t open at all, even with my shoulder to it
  15. Thanks both. The gaps are good at the trailing edge of the door. The striking plate on the door was loose but I tightened it today and still no joy. (Not sure about the anti burst catch). My confusion is why the outside handle works fine and the inside doesn’t
  16. Hi, I have a problem with my passenger door on my Herald 1360 convertible. When I close the door, (we’ll slam it) I can’t open it again unless I open it from the outside. The inside lever moves freely but the door is jammed. With the door open, the lock latch looks like it moves correctly when you use the door handle on the outside or the lever on the inside, so I don’t understand 🤔 Any suggestions gratefully received many thanks M
  17. Yes, I am banking on it surviving to the autumn (a bit of a gamble but I have recovery on my insurance policy). I have a friend who is also a mechanic and has the same car I do, so I can enlist some help. Current thinking would be to remove, get a rebuild and reinstall. Coincidentally, my mate currently has his car in pieces for a major engine rebuild and he wants to keep the existing engine for originality. I’ll return to this thread with an update when I have completed the task later in the year. Many thanks to all once again😀
  18. Many thanks for all the advice, looks like a big job in prospect for the autumn after we have all enjoyed the summer!
  19. Hi, My Herald 1360 gearbox has been getting progressively noisier, it pops out of reverse and drops oil. I short I need to replace it. Can anyone advise the best way to do this? (Rebuild or swap out with a recon) and if they have any recommendations of companies or individuals in the South East London or Kent areas who could undertake a rebuild or have recon boxes for sale. Any advice gratefully received Many thanks
  20. Thanks for all the input. I should have mentioned i am in SE London which no doubt will have a weighting, but it looks like I will be giving Peter James a call to start with and take it from there. My feeling is I can definitively do better! M
  21. Hello, Today my insurance renewal dropped on the mat. My car is a 1968 Herald 1360 convertible and it is a standard car (nothing clever like different engine etc) I am currently with Foootman James and my renewal quote is £206.18. It includes recovery and agreed insurance value of £5k on unlimited miles (which I really don’t need) Can anyone recommend another company who could possibly beat this quote or am I doing okay with this quote from Footman James? many thanks M
  22. Hi Pete, I had to look up the Feb 2016 cover (good job I’m a hoarder). My “two pennorth” is I reckon it’s a Triumph royal blue in an interesting light M
  23. More good advice, thanks. The car is a 68 but that is not relevant as it’s not the original colour anyhow. I am in the South East (London/Kent/Surrey/sussex) could try to find a decent paint shop there and you are right Pete, a bonnet, door or boot lid may be a little expensive to post 😳
  24. Thanks for all the feedback. Unfortunately this is not the original colour of the car (that was white with a red stripe) so my commission plate is not much help. I will try and find some Triumph powder blue touch up paint on the back of all the advice. many thanks again M
  25. Hi, I am becoming confused about the colour of my car. I always thought it was Triumph Wedgwood blue, but when I bough a match pot it did not look quite right. So fortunately I have a log of when my car was restored about 16 years ago and they refer to “Triumph Powder blue” and in one case Sky blue (but I think that may have just been descriptive). I am not sure I have heard of either. Any suggestions gratefully accepted (recent photo attached) M
