  1. 500Kb/sec on a good day out in the sticks, or super fast 100Mb/sec fibre broadband when you live in a town. High speed broadband would be nice, but living in the countryside beats living in the town.
  2. Webarchive has a snapshot of the old website from early December 2013, it goes down as far as the message board main page, but doesn't appear to have indexed the actual messages posted.
  3. Get the original wheels refurbished. Rather than paint, get them powder coated. The company that powder coats them will shot blast them properly immediately before powder coating. The powder coat gets into all the nooks and crannies as it is put on as a dry powder with an electrostatic gun, and then baked to get it to melt and set as a continuous surface.
  4. Lawrence, If you have a link to where the thread used to be on the old forum, could you post it - it may be findable on "way back machine", http://archive.org/web/, which keeps archives of websites, I've found a couple of old threads that way.
  5. The forum has only been live for a few months and is growing fast. When you look at some of the competition, you may think they have a lot of members, but in reality they don't have a lot of "current" members. On the forum you quoted, there are thousands of members who joined and left, so there are probably only a few hundred who actively read the forum and a small handful who actually post. The "guest" counter over there is also rather unreliable and often significantly exaggerates the real number of guests actually actively viewing their forum. We have suffered from two catastrophic crashes in the last few years, and lost all the forum history, so we need to rebuild and get going again. The last forum was hacked by Russian hackers who infected it with malware - because it was already on its last legs and due for imminent replacement, it was shut down, rather than wasting money trying to sort it out. Although there were apparently back ups of the forum data, we have been unable to extract these from the "company" that was hosting the website, and even if we could get them they are encoded and compressed and would require an immense amount of work to extract anything meaningful. The bottom line is, that the choice of Joomla and Fireboard last time around was a big mistake that has not been repeated. The current software is probably the best supported in the industry - it is the market leader for forum software, and we pay a reasonable price for it, and its hosting, rather than using freeware like we did last time - hopefully lesson learned.
  6. If you are "naughty" on the forum, the moderators can "warn" you and give you warning points. As far as I am aware, only the moderators/admin and the person being warned can see how many warning points someone has. If you want some, I can give you some, they are quite easy issue

    No oil pressure

I have seen one example of an engine that had been laid up for a long time where the oil pump had seized and the drive dog on the camshaft interface gear had sheared off, so the dizzy drive was working, but the oil pump not. May be worth pulling the dizzy and its drive gear out and checking the oil pump with a long flat bladed screwdriver.
  8. Leans on the rear can be caused by problems at the front and vice versa - usually seized or stiff bushes.
  9. Richard, If its an original Vitesse pump, then it can be rebuilt using a rebuild kit, available from the usual traders. A lot cheaper than a new pump, and much more reliable.
  10. Despite the fact that "their particular interest" at any given moment is likely to be an identical problem on most small chassis Triumphs, so a solution to the Herald owners brake problem may be in a Spitfire section, but they wont look there because they have a Herald, so the question gets asked again in the Herald section, yet we have a "Braking System" section where the they should find the answer and have a much larger pool of people who are likely to answer any question they pose but they wont look there because its not model specific - rather strange, but each to their own.
  11. Lets have a list of new categories that people want and we will consider adding them. I for one am anti having specific car sections for most stuff related to the specific models - I don't want to see stuff about engine problems, trunion problems, carburation problems, drive shaft and diff problems, brake problems etc spread around sections for Herald, GT6, Spitfire, Vitesse etc, as they are all pretty much identical regardless of the model. So lets get the list going.....
  12. DON'T DO IT ! Unless it is very carefully installed - including blocking off the feed up through the engine block, and installing a flow restrictor, you will rob pressure from the main bearings, leading to premature bearing failure. You will probably also suffer from excessive oil consumption, with too much oil around the top of the head - the valve guides are not fitted with oil seals, and not designed to be fitted with oil seals, and can cause excessive valve guide wear if they are fitted with seals. Triumph spent a fortune back in the day engineering the engine, and if an external oil feed was beneficial they would have used one.
  13. Le Mans Classic, 8th edition, will be held on 8, 9 and 10 July 2016. This is the announcement made Tuesday on the occasion of a conference held for Retromobile in Paris. Le Mans Classic gives now-and-already go to all classic car enthusiasts on 8, 9 and 10 July 2016 on the Grand Circuit 24 Hours of Le Mans. Created in 2002 by Peter Auto in association with the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, Le Mans Classic offers a great retrospective of the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours. Praised in its first edition, the event has continued to establish its reputation over the editions to establish itself as a must-expected every two years by the public and participants. Last July, more than 110 000 spectators had found their way in Sarthe to admire nearly 500 race cars on the track and 8000 vintage cars in general enclosure specially designed to accommodate 180 clubs representing 80 brands! At the center of this great automotive festival village entertainment and exhibition visitors immersed in the magic of the story. In 2016, many new features are planned. They will be announced in the current of the next 17 months...
  14. The bonnet needs to be structurally sound to use the gas struts. If there are any weaknesses in the connection between the wheel arch and wing, then the gas struts can do more harm than good.
  15. The limitations of the picture posting features of the "other" Triumph Club's forum to which John refers above have just been highlighted again in a thread on it. It would appear that there are severe limitations on the size of pictures that can be posted there - not a problem that we have here as we've removed the size limits on pictures that can be posted "In-line". It really highlights the TSSC's attitude to our Forum, where we implement policies that help our members post pictures, rather than forcing them to struggle with software to reduce the picture size so that they can post them.
  16. Aidan, There are several threads in this area that contain details of how to link in photos from outside storage sites or your gallery, or you can just use the "Attach files" box at the bottom of the full editor window. For "Attach files" If you start a new topic, then you are automatically presented with the full editor window. If you are replying to an existing topic you need to click on the "More Reply Options" box to get the full editor. For embedding files hosted elsewhere you use the "image" button at the top of the editor window
  17. John, The pictures to which you refer on the "other forum" have been hosted on PHOTOBUCKET and linked into the thread in exactly the same way that we originally reccomended when you first complained about posting images, so why are you not complaining to the other forum's admin about how difficult it is to post pictures on their forum. The pictures on the "chassis" thread are posted "inline" in just the way you asked for when you complained about the original picture size limits, they are NOT hosted on another site and externally linked in, and they are NOT posted in the members' galley. If you took time to click on one of the thumbnails in the "chassis" thread you would notice that it opens up full screen, in fantastic high resolution, and then offers you a "next" and "prev" tab to scroll through the pictures. We have removed the limit on picture size, and removed the limit on the total size of pictures that can be posted - something that you asked for, so we have listened. There is no need to post in your gallery any more, they can be posted in line, unlike the forum to which you refer, where you can post ONE single picture at the END of the thread. Just because you have a fantastic high bandwidth fibre optic connection, giving gigabit speeds, from t'internet direct to your computer, doesnt mean that everyone we have to cater for does. At home, I am lucky to get 0.5megabit - it's painfully slow, and the last thing I want is a thread that is stuffed full of pictures that take forever to load - every time I view it. Having the expanding thumbnails means that the threads can be picture rich, and fast loading for the mere mortals that have to live with slow internet.
  18. welcome back, forum open to everyone
  19. But with properly setup type 14 brakes you should be able to easilly lock the wheels on a Herald. Bigger/better brakes are only necessary if the car is significatly modified to increase performance, such as fitting a Vitesse engine. An easier, and much cheaper way of getting better brakes would be to change the pads to use Mintex 1144 compound - available from the Club Shop.
  20. Dave, Your account on the Club main website - which gives you access to the discounted Club Shop prices, and your account on this Forum are two totally separate entities. Your account on the Club main website is validated via your membership number using a secure server located at the Club HQ. Your account on this forum is validated via the email address you used to create your forum account. The Forum software will only allow one account per email address, which explains the message that you got. If you want to change the "screen name", or "sign in name" associated with your forum account, then there are links at the top of the page to allow you to update your profile. There is no requirement to have any connection between your Forum account and your Club shop account - they can use totally different user names and passwords and email addresses, or if you want you can make both accounts use the same user name, password and email address - but if you change one, the other is NOT automatically changed as there is no linkage between the two accounts.
  21. HE is the suffix for a High Compression Engine. As far as I know, HL is not a valid Triumph suffix, and is probably a stamping error, with a badly stamped E.
  22. Anyone can join the forum - it's not exclusively for Club members. The front end of the forum has now been setup so that you need to be a member of the Forum and signed in (not the Club) so that you can view the forum. Many of us choose to remain signed in on a computer (there is a tick box you can choose on the sign in page), so every time we access the forum we are immediately "in" without having to sign in first. The reason this has been done is to try and stop spammer posts - there is a loophole in the forum software that allows guests to post without being members - the only way to stop this is to enforce a sign-in. Before the change we had several postings from spammers using this loop hole to advertise their various generic erectile dysfunction drugs. We still have a lot of spammers trying to sign up as members, but the software has a lot of features to filter them out, and very few actually manage to end up as members and are swiftly deleted before managing to post. For the record, there are currently 420 genuine forum members, in addition there have been 318 accounts created by spammers, and only 2 of them have managed to get past the anti-spammer filters.
  23. You can also buy GL4 EP90 from the Club Shop - https://shop.tssc.org.uk/product/castrolhypoy-ep90-gear-oil-1-litre
  24. EP80/90 GL4 is fine to use in a diff. The most important bit is GL4. Some, but not all GL5 spec oils will damage the diff. The oil suppliers are not always very open about the formulation of their oil, so it can be difficult to establish if any particular GL5 spec oil is "yellow metal" safe. It's easier to just avoid GL5 spec oils - just in case the one you happen to use is not yellow metal safe. By the way, you can use a GL5 spec oil to oil your trunions - the problem ingredient only becomes a problem when the oil is hot and under a lot of shear pressure, which is only found in the diff.
  25. Some of the currently available greaseable universal joints have a metric threaded fitting for greasing them - probably M5 or M6 thread.
