    Misfire

Standard air filters. I checked dashpots last night, they had hardly any oil in them. I haven't tested it yet but I'm thinking this is the problem

Hi Pete I've got electronic ignition. The dampers seem low on oil I changed the waxstat for pennies. I haven't checked plugs or air filters

  6. That's something then. I'm going to Silverstone, so could I get a 1300 belt until I can change pump
  7. Definitely a smaller pulley. How do I check that it is a 1500 engine. Starting to worry now
  8. Alternator. I was thinking of extending adjustment slot on alternator bkt
  9. Water pump pulley is 4''
  10. When you pull it out it's 20'' It was part of a service kit from the club Avx10 1087 la
  11. My fan belt is slipping when you get to higher revs. I've tried swapping it for a new one but the adjustments are maxed out. What am I missing. Cheers
  12. Sorry its taken so long to get back to you. Ive taken the car out for a run, it seems that Mark B was correct. The noise from the exhaust was really loud but it kept pulling. Thanks for your help, may have to change the exhaust,I do like the look of the twin tail pipes though. 😁
  13. I had wax stat but I altered them using penny's,so that they were fixed cuz the car kept cutting out when it got warm. I was advised to do this by a club member, so I'm assuming it was ok.
  14. Maybe i'm being a baby with it, worrying something might break. 0-50 is very quick, then its disapointing.
  15. hi Pete. No, it runs fine. I have a sports exhaust on it, which is very loud Just no top end umph.
  16. Hi, Ive used my 1500 spitfire a lot more this year. I'm becoming frustrated at the lack of speed that the car will do. If I do 55mph it sounds as if the engine is going to get out. Is this normal? What can I do to increase its top speed? Or do I need a different engine/gearbox? I know I could put an overdrive gearbox in it, but am wondering if this is worth while, due to the rarity and cost of them What alternatives do you recommend? Thanks for your time
  17. Thanks Mark. i'll have a check, although i set them not long ago. Maybe I need to run car for a while, its not really been anywhere for 18 months
  18. Spitfire is missing slightly, mainly when you take foot off of accelerator then on back on again. Is this to do with dampers on the carbs, if so, how full should they be and with what? Thanks in advance Coxy
  19. Hi, I've had trouble starting my 1978 Spitfire. It runs out of battery before the fuel gets to the carbs. My question, is it worth fitting an electric fuel pump and if so which do you recommend? Thanks Steve
  20. Found the wire behind dash. all works great now. Thanks for your help
  21. Thanks for your help. Thats tomorrows job sorted
  22. its a 1500 spitfire. The light green/live wire is there but nothing on the other connection. Haynes manual says its green/blue. cant see it in the mass of spaghetti behind dash. Dont mind running a new wire, just wasnt sure of wire thickness
