  1. If the £5k includes all the work done so far and the respray, then that is not bad. If it is just the prep and respray, well over the top, you live in Suffolk, not Central London!!! Perhaps you need to pop along to your local meet, which conveniently is tonight. Colin
  2. I have used Generic citric acid in the past, also known as catering product, widely used for cutting drugs, nice and strong and Heat helps. Buy in 20,kg bags.
  3. What is odd that you can buy a brand new car and the boots last forever, buy a new TRE for your Triumph and the boot fails as you take it out of the box. I guess modern manufacturers are allowed to use nasty additives, but Triumphh owners have to be environmentally friendly. Or we are just being ripped off by shonky suppliers.
  4. Boots fitted to new track rod ends can have a life of less than one MOT. There are sources of goood ones, but they are never fitted to new joints new door seals are too fat, especially if bubble type. A sharp knife can solve issue, slit the bubble open. window winder has been put back together wrong I suspect, a previous owner possibly got bored of truing to get it right. The boot lid is fibre glass for good reason, have you seen the price of steel ones!
  5. NGK plugs used to be the most faked, there are websites showing how to spot them.
  6. I am getting the impression it is well under 50% of Triumph owners doing their own maintenance and repairs now. Judging by what I saw people buying and more importantly not buying at Stoneleigh.
  7. I have a Spitfire box with a fully caged mainshaft tip bearing. Tip ground down very slightly and inner race pressed on, input shaft ground out, and race pressed in. instructions were in The Courier, long time ago I suspect.
  8. I was always told, as you Pull and push on the crank, if you can hear it, it is starting to wear, if you can feel it, getting bad, if you can see it move, too late, about to drop, or already dropped.
  9. Nice looking very late car. I am sure you will be asking lots of questions soon. 🙂
  10. My English teacher at secondary school was really cool, he drove a Vitesse (well actually 3 different ones) guess they were cheap disposable cars in the late 70’s.
  11. Gaps on that bonnet look really good. The slight raise in centre in front of screen may be due to slight mis-alignment of the bonnet cones pushing the tops of the wings inwards. Yes the screen frame is separate, and you can see the gap as the door seal and P-seal are not in place.
  12. Can someone post when the email issues are resolved as I wanted to see if another Feb Courier could be sent to me as no sign of mine yet.
  13. Upcoming legislation is looking to remove compulsory “extras” from online sales. In case of Stoneleigh, best bet is to get a stall holder to get you early entry tickets, cheaper, and you get in before it opens (you can’t get in once it is open!)
  14. What is not being mentioned is that lots of modern brake pads are rubbish, and the material is designed to be used with a servo. But proper asbestos pads don’t necessarily need one.
  15. You need to buy 2000 ones, if you want the earth. Spitfire / GT6 have 2 and earth through the lamp unit. I STR reading the new ones are not as good quality, may be wrong. I would try and get a set of secondhand 2000 ones, perhaps try Lloyd Read for a set?
  16. Not been same experience since they shut the cafe and turned the space into the regalia store. Coffee hatch is not a patch on the sit down breakfast.
  17. Try and get yourself along to a local meet, are you north or south Essex? I know of a very good GT6 for sale, if you don’t mind a derivative cheers Colin
  18. The gear angle is different in a Mk3 GT6 box, compared to earlier ones and Vitesse ones, same gear set as an 1850 Dolomite with 3 rail box,
  19. That is one regret I have, not flying into Kai-tak airport. Pilots had to pass special exams, and have balls of steel to fly straight at a cliff face. It even had something painted on it for them to aim at, then bank hard at the last second. And yes, HK island is very hilly.
  20. Looks OK to me, just need to position dust shield and then carefully open clip out and fit without it catching the rubber by fitting open side first, the ends get cut poorly and they dig in.
  21. I do, it has the best source of a 3.27 available, better carrier and less stressed. Just throw rest of car away after Removing CW&P.
  22. If the movement was “up down” on near side, may be the nylon “pellet” usually under the rubber mount that if missing leaves that movement.
  23. A mate used on of those kits on his MK1 PI wheel, looked good afterwards. Just take your time over it.
  24. Dave Picton used to do a regular trade in moving hinges inboard.
  25. I kept a couple of 1500 bellhousings and weighed the other 20-odd in. I could come up with no use for them apart maybe repurposing into novelty feet for floor standing lamps for Triumph enthusiasts. would need a run through the dishwasher and then a good coat of paint to minimise the chance of a black ring on the carpet. could do something similar with a flywheel, but probably better with a 2.5 saloon one.
