  1. If the £5k includes all the work done so far and the respray, then that is not bad.

If it is just the prep and respray, well over the top, you live in Suffolk, not Central London!!!

Perhaps you need to pop along to your local meet, which conveniently is tonight.

Yes rumour is rubber is more environmentally friendly these days so falls apart quick and you have to buy another🙃

What is odd that you can buy a brand new car and the boots last forever, buy a new TRE for your Triumph and the boot fails as you take it out of the box. I guess modern manufacturers are allowed to use nasty additives, but Triumphh owners have to be environmentally friendly. Or we are just being ripped off by shonky suppliers.

  3. Boots fitted to new track rod ends can have a life of less than one MOT.

There are sources of goood ones, but they are never fitted to new joints

new door seals are too fat, especially if bubble type. A sharp knife can solve issue, slit the bubble open.

window winder has been put back together wrong I suspect, a previous owner possibly got bored of truing to get it right.

The boot lid is fibre glass for good reason, have you seen the price of steel ones!

How many TSSC members maintain their own cars? I would expect at least 75% judging from this forum.  If the question was posed to the Porsche Owners, then I would expect a lot less than 35% do their own maintenance as suggested in Colin's post.

I am getting the impression it is well under 50% of Triumph owners doing their own maintenance and repairs now.

Judging by what I saw people buying and more importantly not buying at Stoneleigh.

If possible I prefer sleeving of bearing surfaces as you then get a proper race which is through hardened and machined to very fine tolerance. Its what Ive just done on the mainshaft tip bearing of the OD gearbox Im preparing but unfortunately to do the same for its laygear is much more difficult (impossible?)...

I have a Spitfire box with a fully caged mainshaft tip bearing.

Tip ground down very slightly and inner race pressed on, input shaft ground out, and race pressed in.

instructions were in The Courier, long time ago I suspect.

Yes bearings never changed in the gearbox it was just the synchro rings and some gears although ratios stayed same....

The gear angle is different in a Mk3 GT6 box, compared to earlier ones and Vitesse ones, same gear set as an 1850 Dolomite with 3 rail box,

I have to say I don't like the look of the 3.27:1 TR7 automatic.

I do, it has the best source of a 3.27 available, better carrier and less stressed. Just throw rest of car away after Removing CW&P.
