I kept a couple of 1500 bellhousings and weighed the other 20-odd in. I could come up with no use for them apart maybe repurposing into novelty feet for floor standing lamps for Triumph enthusiasts. would need a run through the dishwasher and then a good coat of paint to minimise the chance of a black ring on the carpet. could do something similar with a flywheel, but probably better with a 2.5 saloon one.

There should be a small ring fitted round the gear stick and secured with a grub screw, which is then fully enclosed by the lock. that way if gearknob is removed it still can’t be lifted off.

I have 3 sets of early 80’s Pirelli P6s and they are going to last me forever, even wheel spinning constantly, no signs of wear. never going to need to buy anymore in my lifetime. Which may not be long if I use them on the road. But great fun to cover my inadequacies going round the cones. I am sure I look the dogs danglies doing 4-wheel drifts on full opposite lock. 🙂 I do not manage to wear out tyres on my Triumphs anymore, they tend to get swapped after about 10years, or fitted to someone else’s car. My old Discovery has about 8 year old tyres on it, and I think they are about 2 years past when they should have been changed. Hardly worn, but lots of cracking between the treads, and seem to have gone very hard. Getting new ones soon.

There was one episode where they fixed a car with crap brakes, and kept going on how she would like to take her kids out in it, but couldn’t because it had no brakes. So it was OK to drive a car with useless brakes, as long as it didn’t have her kids in it. That really annoyed me. you fix the brakes because it’s bloody dangerous!

Changing an ICE will never cause too many issues, radical modifications to a monocoque perhaps may. changing to an EV drivetrain, well you may be trying to evade duty, and that always upsets HMRC, and local councils. To get a vehicle correctly registered to avoid RFD, ULEZ and Congestion charge zones etc, you have to get it updated. And that is where people are coming unstuck. I was hearing Of a Stag that had been converted to EV, and DVLA were questioning the drain holes in the original engine cross member as the one in the car looked different to the new ones you can buy now, therefore it was assumed it had been modified as part of the EV conversion. Unless it can be proven the crossmember was not a subframe and was an original one, then-the car can never go back on the road. I believe the motor was mounted to the original engine mount locations to ensure no changes were made. They are totally intolerant of any change to the vehicle at all now, not like a few years ago. A single hole drilled in the wrong place can and will write-off the conversion.

On the subject of clean electricity, I was talking a few days ago about a need to dispose of bold car tyres, he said the lack scrappie took them for free, as they shred them and sell them to India To burn in a power station. And as they are classed as fuel no restrictions on the export.

By ignoring TPTV you are missing some really good programmes, such as “look at life.” It is also worth reading the history behind TPTV. It was run on a threadbare shoestring budget by a father and daughter originally. They acquired the rights to lots of old programmes that no-one else wanted, and set up a channel to shown them.

You can get voltage sensing units that then switch the trailer lights, so should be unaffected by LED lighting. Wire it to the lights in the car, rather than use the CANBUS system.

I acquired a “low mileage” Tecalamit lift a couple of years ago. It was lifted onto a car trailer with and engine crane, and off again likewise. bolted H frame to the floor using biggest expanding bolts it would allow and lifted the posts into place using the engine crane. Did it all myself on my own, once up had it checked and the interlocks all setup by a local lift servicing company.

I fitted Freelander studs and M12 Ford Escort/Fiesta nuts to my Spitfire with Standard oval hole wheels, no issues with holes being wrong size.

You do it with the details on the old V5 I think. the above only applies with latest V5 possibly, If the seller has an older style one, you may have to wait for it to be in your name (get seller to do it online) and then go online as soon as the V5 arrives and tax immediately, and ignore the threatening letter that arrives the same day or day after about having an untaxed car on the road. other option is to ask seller to delay going online to update V5 until you tell him you are home. cheers Colin p.s just ch3cked, with latest V5 you only get green slip, seller keeps rest for GDPR reasons. Seller is solely responsible for notifying new owner details to DVLA, NOT buyer. green slip allows you to tax it. Has to be quite an old V5 for buyer to be responsible for notifying details, most cars should have had a new style one sent out by now it says.
