  1. Good old EP smells of cat pee, the modern ones don't. Obviously substituting the smelly compounds for synthetic ones
  2. The MSUK stuff shows you how and why to make an effective ROPS, so from that you can work out the effectiveness of commercial offerings. I have a commercial twin hoop one in my TR, bloody nuisance, blocks the rear view mirror, and can't get the hood past it easily. Got a spare Spitfire one for sale if anyone wants one.
  3. The PC prices are a bit low, £4600 is still a good price, in my view. Finding good ones has become a lot more difficult of late.
  4. County tri-metal preferred, sometime described as heavy duty. Change them whatever. Polish journals as well if you are not getting it ground
  5. Reminds me of my first job, we used to maintain a type of Memorex (I think It was) printer, about 60kg I think. used to take 2 of us to lift it onto the work bench. Had a massive cast iron frame. The guy who used to drive round picking them up would walk into the workshop with 1 under each arm. He used to be a fire eater in a circus, so was used to pulling on the ropes to lift the big-top. Not an ounce of fat on him.
  6. I have noticed that as well, it must be a side effect of modern engines, particularly diesels, that are programmed for massive low down torque, and a quest for minimal fuel consumption. My Vauxhall does 38/1000rpm in top. It rarely goes over 2000rpm, unless I am trying to clear the DPF. A Triumph 4 sounds great up round 6000k, a Triumph 6 sounds even better. Give it a go I say, you won't be disappointed
  7. Teeth on cam sprocket look a little pointy to me. but they do look even each side
  8. I wear Nomex overalls, solves that problem. The guys at work tend to throw them away when they get dirty, so I stand in the way. 🙂
  9. A previous owner of my old Herald 1200 estate used to tow a trailer with a Spitfire on it. Reckon that's was interesting. Assume a Mk1 towbar is what is required.
  10. Looks fantastic. is the problem that it is an import so not correctly assessed for emissions?
  11. Are they Spitfire or a Herald? You can sell a Mk3 Spitfire engine sometimes.
  12. Looks like some 1300fwd switches in there. They may be Mk1 GT6 , in which case might be worth a few quid.
  13. Can you stick a couple of coke cans through the holes?
  14. Don't expect selling the spare engine to fund more than perhaps a new set of plugs. I have failed to give away unknown engunes in the past. Keep them and take the best parts from each of them to make yours, then get the same price for The leftovers
  15. What was the programme? How old was it?
  16. Comment on one of the TS3 videos says they were great at turning fuel into noise. looks like they had a good bit of torque, as they seemed able to slog up hills at a steady if slow pace.
  17. I have a big pile of cam and crank sprockets, the simplex ones are significantly more worn than the duplex ones. i have also stripped off some very floppy and stretched simplex chains. look very closely at the teeth on the sprockets in your engine, check them against what a new one looks like.
  18. That trick with the tensions only works for simplex tensioner, duplex tensioner are too wide for the gap. THAT is when it gets interesting doing the split pin.
  19. I think there are only 2 companies that make screen in U.K., Pilkington and Uroglass. .
  20. Most 2000 owners looking for a different wheel change to 15" as very large tyre choice. I have seen many cars with 13" van tyres fitted, including on just 1 corner. But they ar e the right size apparently. Also very scary!. Options are "S" alloys, or Stag 14" steels if you want to use PI wheel trims (get a set with oval valve holes) Or even 14" Minilites. Still a very good choice of 14" tyres.
  21. I hadn't picked up that the rolling 40-years on the plates had been dropped. Will be a few disappointed owners of 1981 cars onwards.
  22. Had a look at the 1144 pads I have ready to fit to the 2000, and no mention at all about not being suitable for road use anywhere on box. Though they are described as “Racing Pads”. So wonder if I need to sell the box to anyone who is worried. 🙂 I purchased them from a MG specialist in the Netherlands, not sure if that makes a difference.
  23. I can assure you that many currently available pads bear no resemblance to OE ones. Maybe more to the cardboard box boxes the OE ones came in. Shame JohnD has Vitesse calipers or I would send him the pads from my Herald estate. They were dire.
