  1. Should the gearknob just be the black rubberised ball? with or without white lettering?
  2. That really has self destructed. Hard to work out whether the 2 issues are interconnected, or just 2 bits of wear that happened to reach an issue simultaneously. Are you intending to rebuild that box or look for a better one? Just to add, the prices of mainshafts has rocketed (well in the U.K.) recently, I wonder if there is supply issue.
  3. Same as Adrian, I just keep the water from the dehumidifier and like Clive mix It with ECP antifreeze. Do I win prize for most financially astute?
  4. I would I would say the moving rack is that the spreader plates were not spread when the rack was tightened down. 5 minute job to tighten correctly.
  5. Cut middle out of original bumper and weld the cut ends up. ideal if it is bent, saves cutting up a straight one.
  6. I don’t see why you won’t get an honest appraisal from Dale. I suspect the suspension work has removed a bit too much of the compliance, making the ride a bit too “raw” Anyway, report back. We can all offer opinions and you can take a sample, weed out the extremes and hopefully the result will be a good way to go.
  7. 9 cars, combined value about £50k insurance values. Low risk area, older claim free policy holder, 9 named drivers. All cars pretty standard apart from my Moss kit car. Agreed value, unlimited mileage and class 1 business use ( so I could take to work occasionally during nice weather.) I asked what might be loading the premium, nothing they said. I am now insured through Cherished Vehcle Insurance Services who are part of A-Plan, who provide the TRR policies, though mine is tied to Club Triumph. ask for Pete Barrett, who is a Triumph owner himself and very knowledgeable, so modifications Easily understood.
  8. I went with a broker that uses a different underwriter. got it back down to £700 ish.
  9. You can get a combined temp sender and fan switch that screws into normal sender location. might be Fiat or Daihatsu?
  10. I would have said +1 for PJ as well in the past, but they tried to turn me over this year, saying that even though my premium was right, they didn't think I was paying enough to cover the risk, so they doubled my premium to £1200. Most classic policies are underwritten by Equity Red Star.
  11. You need to drill new holes for the repro badges. Notbusually a problem as they tend to be fitted during a restoration, so holes be welded up.
  12. Colin Do you need fine spline ( later 1850) or course spline ( early 1850 and Mk3 GT6) input shaft? I may have a course one left over from the rebuilds of my 2 gearboxes. I needed to break a non OD box From a Mk3 GT6 to get a good layshaft cluster.
  13. peter, if you can find your comms with JK it would be very interesting
  14. Extra info back from Gearbox man, the shaving of the adaptor is necessary as per Nick, and he had mis-read that there was an open hole. There is a breather that gets sealed by the gasket, and the other hole that isn't open to the outside. So my gearbox will,be done in a day or so, ready for collection. Glad my memory and notes were correct. Thunk there is a national shortage of mainshafts or some serious profiteering, Rimmers has single rail ones at over £300 now. And that is a standard one
  15. Length is not a problem, I need to get a propshaft anyway. Issue is the long adaptor having its internals open to the outside world at the top I am told. I don't have the bits to hand to look at, as someone else is putting them together for me. All I have is a 1500 Spitfire OD box and a 3 rail casing to look at and visualise. Trying not to buy a different ( and currently very very expensive) mainshaft and almost as expensive adaptor.
  16. Well all I can say is wow! There is certainly no shortage of money amongst the Triumph community. The priCes were way beyond my means. £62k for the TR5, plus £24k buyers premium and VAT. £86k and it is not even complete! Unbeleivable.
  17. Bit of assistance needed. Converting a single rail 1850 box into a 3-rail box. My previous notes said it should be easy, but have hit 2 problems. What adaptor between gearbox and overdrive do you need to use, original is too tall, and leaves a gap, and more importantly, can you use the original single rail mainshaft, or is a different one needed? I am suspecting I may have messed up!
  18. How much was the estimate on the GT6???? Thing they had mixed up TR6 and GT6. Some really interesting cars, Metro 6R4, Renault 5 Turbo (400+ bhp from a 1400) or even a Turbo 2. All the prices are crazy high.
  19. ISTR I gave mine a blow over with Inca Yellow, but then I had some. Closish.
  20. Past Parts in Bury st Edmunds may be able to assist.
  21. Alex if the distributor is the correct one, then the gearing in it should be correct, never heard of anyone changing it. I have checked speedo and rev counters with an electric drill in reverse in the past. you could use your laser counter to check reverse speed on drill and then run rev counte r off it.
  22. Those compression figures are a bit up an down. did you do with all the plugs out? did you try a wet test as well?
  23. White by looks of it. not taxed since 1997, so not looking good to still exist. colin
  24. Nice car, but you could get a convertible Triumph that came out i for the factory, and has PI for that price.
