  1. Think carefully before replacing all the rubber bushes, especially if it is just because they are 40 years old, the original will be better than any new replacement rubber parts, and many poly substitutes are very poor. pick the right poly replacement and you will be fine of course.
  2. I drove my Mk3 Spitfire without a crank nut for a few years, the pulley now clonks even with a nut fitted and tightened within an inch of its life.
  3. Try contacting Neil Ferguson for a recon on your unit, he is Stafford direction.
  4. Got the map out Looks like it is the D438 from Rouen via Grand Bourgtheroulde Brionne Bernay Broglie Gace Nonant-le-Pin Sees Alencon then D338 Oisseau-le-Petit Piace Beaumont-sur-Sarthe La Bazoge Some places have bypasses, can be quicker, and nicer to drive through the middle.
  5. I have always tried to go down the N138 from Rouen, which has lots of other numbers now as a result of the Autoroute being built. It was the route everyone took for many years. Some great open roads and nice villages to drive through. Helps to go to Dieppe, or take a bit of Autoroute from Calais down to Rouen, then work out how get onto N138. Trying to remember some of the places. Alencon, Grace, Sees.
  6. On the same vein, my colleague spotted an advert on Facebook for some scale model kits, airfix type. It was a couple of hours after posted, woman said she has taken them down the dump, thought as no-one had replied in couple of hours they were worthless, He told her she had dumped about £5k of rare kits, and put the phone down.
  7. Try slightly hotter plugs, BP5ES if you use NGK, or the Bosch 3prong ones, should help the plugs fouling. And drive it hard, Pi cars are not for pootling round in.
  8. I was trying to think if any 2000 had a rev counter, not sure if any ever did. That one is definitely PFL Mk2 2.5PI.
  9. Going to differ with you Nigel, Rev counter is PFL Mk2 2.5 PI. No PFL 2000 has a rev counter. May have been a FL 2000 with the “S” type dash. I think the 3 part gauge may be from a Ford?
  10. If I have an engine crane and a grit blast cabinet that belong to one mate, he has no space for them. Had them for years. I have a car trailer belonging to another mate on what is now a very long long loan, he has no space and certainly no time to ever use it. I use it a lot. Now needs some repairs, cannot seem to get him interested.. 🙂 Used to have his Range Rover for months on end as well, was very useful. And very cheap! Have my own now. Not cheap. I regularly lend stuff out, and I’m sure the borrowers know I will forget shortly afterwards, seem to spend hours trying to recollect where stuff I was sure I had has gone. 😞
  11. Is there any clue as to what cam is fitted to the short engine? ISTR the Fitchett engines are very late 2000 saloon engines, so may have a cam of a less sporty nature, which won’t suit the GT6 really. It will need a GT6 cam and you will also need to raise compression a bit I suspect, which will be skimming head as it is domed pistons. As it is a new bare head, may as well get seats fitted as there won’t be any lead memory. What size valves does the head take? There are a few variations.
  12. 108 quid is cheap! check the studs are good, you can make new plastic windows, though ISTR someone made kits with the little brass rivets.
  13. Stick it on. has saved me trying to fit a panel to my estate, well at least for now.
  14. Sounds like you should all have a stand at Stoneleigh flogging stuff. I find I have to keep raiding the stash of old scrap as it is better than the new stuff. Was recovering bits of rear trunnion bush today, as the 40-odd year old bits were much better than the new kit I purchased. Still not sure I need 20+ engines, and god knows how many 3-synchro Herald boxes.
  15. I bought the wife a replacement Fiesta, 11 years younger, and twice the power of the old one, premium went up 89p. Was expecting to get turned over. So they aren’t all bad, occasionally.
  16. I have a meter capable of measuring dwell, very easy to check points gap is correct, which it never was just using feeler gauges. most of the cars now have EI, so doesn’t come out much.
  17. The TR Surrey top looks standard to me.
  18. MK1 2000 saloon engine will be a “long back” crank and has the phosphor bronze bush in the flywheel. Vitesse engine is a “short back” crank ISTR. So will, have the bearing in the end of the crank I think. I wonder if your mix and match has given a wrong setup. how close is the flywheel to the backplate?
  19. WE box is 1850 3-rail, and they seemed to be short of a W stamp as I have a couple with upside down M used in its place. Gear set is identical to Mk3 GT6.
  20. Sadly not unusual on MK1 2000 heads. cracks between exhaust and inlet. I have 3 or 4 on shelf, all cracked, same place.
  21. One thing to watch, Mk3 GT6 gearbox has a different gearset to Mk2. Gear angles are different. Dolomite 1850 3-rail is same gearset as Mk3 GT6.
  22. Form emailed yesterday, hopefully I was quick enough. 🙂

    Garage Heater

That’s £80 a day to heat the garage!! I think I would put an extra jumper on.
  24. If you can hear the movement, it is getting too much, if you can feel it, it is bad, if you can see it, too late. 😞 1mm is way too much, expect the worst.
