  1. It’s a Thomas Industries not sure of the model number (see photos) it needed a new hose (as the original one was split) and I got a modern cheap (£10) gravity fed spray gun (as the original one wasn’t working well) it now sometimes needs a little encouragement to get going, but it’s done it’s job!😀
  2. Thanks! That’s good to know😀 (first soft top I’ve fitted) a couple more photos I took today
  3. Thanks for your comments! The roof arrived yesterday, so another busy full day, and it’s done!!
  4. Cellulose and a £40 1970s compressor/sprayer I got off eBay! it took quite a bit of flatting back, compound, t cut & polish to get it looking as good as it does now!
  5. Yes, it passed very quickly, I have been flat out on it for 11 weeks solid! Yes, I did! I did most of the painting in November when it was slightly warmer, plus I heated the surfaces and dried the paint as needed I took everything off I could and did it all separately in small stages, then moved the tar polling and painted the rest. here was my “spray booth”
  6. I’ve been told today that the roof/hood (a red one) is finally on it’s way to me now (I ordered it mid December!) so I’ll keep you posted on when that’s done The old one is only just holding on! Every time I move it it splits more (especially the windows) I believe it’s original!
  7. thanks! I fitted a 13/60 loom to the whole front (as the best dashboard I could find for it was a 13/60) so the temperature gauge and everything else is working fine!
  8. You're right! I should of left them there for the mother in Law!!😃 Yes, very little welding was needed to the floor or chassis It is now on the road and running great! finished apart from the roof
  9. It's done!! outside (or in a gazebo) .........in 11 weeks (apart from the roof, which i'm having trouble with supply! more on that later)
  10. it was very solid, and only needed very little welding as you can see by photos
  11. I brought a new project in October as I predicted we were going to have another lockdown! so it arrived mid November
  12. Hi, does anyone know what size allen key is needed to remove the heater control knobs on a gt6/spitfire? I seem to have lost the one i've used before so i need a new one thanks
  13. If you loosen the clamp on the steering rod (from the steering wheel, next to the top of the clutch pedal) plus loosen the front and rear column bolts the whole column and steering wheel can be adjusted forward and back
  14. Just taxed my GT6 with reminder form online (no mot on it) had a box to tick to declare MOT exempt, job done. So it looks like they have finally sorted it!
  15. I've got one you can borrow, i'm in Cornwall if that's easier
  16. ok, lets put it out there.......can anyone beat 43mpg in a GT6? I've seen on other sites someone do it in a 1500 Spitfire, but can't find anyone with a GT6
  17. I got the mileage from doing exactly the same trip in different modern car's many times in the past, not by the gt6 speedometer, but according to a gps the speedometer is accurate in the GT6. It also has an "O" on the end of the chassis plate so is original overdrive and as can been seen in the photo's its on its original wheels (not tyres!) maybe...dare I say it....its another good reason to use additive + a higher octane fuel..(on a GT6 designed to run on 101 anyway)
  18. Hi, Thanks for your opinions on the wheels (that's why I asked, as ive never seen a mk3 with wires so were not sure what it would look like) I agree about a MK1 or Mk2 I think I worked out the MPG correct (I did it a few times) here is how I worked it out : hope it makes sense! It used 50L of petrol (tesco 99ron with castrol valvemaster plus added as instructions, as I use both of these, timing is set to standard ) This cost me £62.50 (petrol @ £1.25 per L) The car did 480 miles so I make this 11.1 gallons of fuel (whatever way I worked it) I work this out to be approx. 43mpg...... ....But I do stand to be corrected, if I've worked out something wrong😕
  19. Did a nice 500 mile round motorway run in the GT6 this weekend (Cornwall to the midlands and back) Only seen 2 other classics out for the whole M5! I was certainly noticed!! I would say 90% -95% of passengers were looking at the car as they overtook. I had beeps, waves, thumbs up's, nod's, photos taken (I think because it was bank holiday everyone was in a happy mood!) The GT6 ran 100% perfect! smooth, reasonably quiet, didn't miss a beat (I serviced it last week) 4th gear with overdrive all the way, between 60 & 70mph, it averaged 43.4 MPG!!! As with all of these things in nearly didn't happen as final check before I set off I found a fuel leak in the 2 year old Ebay "R9" rubber hose (better check the rest! lucky enough most of the fuel line is metal) it is also only ever run on 97 or 99 petrol, so not too sure on this ethanol only being in 95 fuel? As it went so well I was thinking of treating it to a new set of chrome wire wheels, what are your opinions on this? I've heard they can be tricky to balance and need a bit of maintenance....
  20. I do one better than that, I use Tesco 99ron (whenever possible) plus Castrol valvemaster plus (lead additive & octane booster) hopefully to get my GT6 to run on something like it was designed to (101 Ron) 2 years and about 5,000 miles later.....timing set to factory, no pinking at all, plenty of power and no pink plugs!???? Works for me anyway!
  21. It's the ratio between number of turns of the wheel lock to lock (not sure of the exact ratio difference)
  22. Yes I did save it, it was only surface rust, nothing was seized! just needed a rub down and a paint
  23. Here is my mk3 GT6 one (I think they are the same?) Hope this helps Mat
