  1. Thanks , Clive, for the recommendation for Triumph Autoclassique. JY classics currently have a 3-4 months lead time which is less than ideal. I was quite impressed by Engenuity in Acton whose workshop was heaving with Triumphs. I would be happy to use an experienced mechanic to do the work but would welcome recommendations. 2. Hello, I need recommendations for a reliable, experienced restorer for my Mk3 Spitfire which is now in a sorry state and is in need of some TLC. My car is in West London near Ruislip. Replacement of the wiring loom has started but it's been a long, slow job and I've run out of patience (the car also needs to move out from the driveway). Windscreen, soft top, Brakes also need attention. All recommendations will be gratefully accepted. Steve
  3. I've been a club member since 1999 when I bought the Spitfire, my first and only classic car. It had been partially restored by the previous owner and was in running order and it's been a work-in-progress ever since. The wiring loom was always a bit ropey (no pun intended!) but was serviceable until 2016 when it caught fire. Luckily it was at a garage who managed to put it out before any damage was caused. The car is currently on my drive until the wiring has been replaced. My enthusiasm is rapidly diminishing and I want to have the car back on the road for next summer. I'm looking for help with the job and don't mind paying for the time and effort required.
  4. Following an incident last year when the wiring to the starter solenoid caught fire, I'm currently rewiring my mk3 Spitfire. Thankfully the car wasn't damaged . To rewire the horn push, does anyone know if it's necessary to remove the steering wheel or dismantle the steering column? I have a Haynes manual but any additional hints will be appreciated.
  5. I'm about to start a complete rewire of my 67 Mk3 Spitfire. I've already acquired a complete loom from Autosparks and would appreciate any hints and tips to make the job easier. Are there any parts, tools or connectors that could help? Many thanks in advance, Steve
