    Lack of power

I did some research and it seems like the SU HS4 has the same diameter 1,5". Anyone know if this HS4 spacer would fit my CD150´s? https://sucarb.co.uk/insulating-manifold-air-inlet-gaskets/insulating-gaskets/insulating-gasket-5.html

    Lack of power

I had to take a break from my project due to travelling for work. The plan is to find those missing horses this weekend. Air leaks and/or fuel starvation is what I suspect. I think I set the fuel level in the carbs a bit too low in my efforts to make the carbs stop flooding. I took them apart (again....) and the float height seems to be closer to 20 mm instead of the specified 18 mm. Bigger height = lower fuel level I guess. Don't know if that deviation is enough to create the problems I have (?). Anyway, will re-adjust and make sure I get as close as possible to 18 mm. Back to airleaks. The carb spacers I have do not look good. I don't want to grind them in any way since I don't know if they contain asbesthos. I have tried to order new ones, but the ususal suspects don't seem to have them in stock. Do anyone on here know if spacers for CD 150 are available? If so, where can I buy them?

I need all the help can get! I appreciate all advices and I check them all. Keep them coming...

    Lack of power

Lugs and holes are where they should be, I checked that when I replaced the diaphragms. Timing is definitely next on the list!

    Lack of power

I did check this using one of those tiny cameras you can push into the cylinder throught the spark plug hole. Marks where they should be! ✅

    Yes, very nice clonk! 🙂

    Lack of power

Thanks John, no they are certainly not calibrated, at least not the one made in China that I use. However, the company I work for actually make pressure gauges that ARE precision instruments 🙂 They are used in the semi conductor industry, and are "Made with Pride on The Åland Island" 🙂 https://www.inficon.com/en/products/vacuum-gauge-and-controller/cube-cdgsci I will re-check timing, I only adjusted it to 13 degrees static and have not used a timing light yet.

    Lack of power

Compression test done, numbers ok (ish). Piston rings in cylinder 6 seems to be a bit worn, compression improves a lot with some oil in the cylinder. I just increased the fuel pressure a bit, and it seems like it added a few horsepower (or it's just my wishful thinking???). Anyway, will double check timing again, and then increase fuel pressure in small increments to avoid flooding and see if I can add a few more horses.

    Lack of power

Going back to basics whenever I can as recommended, I looked at "lack of power" in the fault finding chart in WSM. I think I can eliminate everything exept the fuel supply. As mentioned before I do not have a mechanical pump, only the Huco and the pressure regulator. Considering to increase fuel pressure in case it is fuel starvation, but increased pressure also increase the risk of flooding. I will have a fit if they flood again, then there will be men with white coats in my garage.

Starting and idling yes. Never tried to drive it until now.

    Lack of power

Diaphragms now replaced with new ones. No diference, my 13/60 had MUCH more power when accelerating and going up the hills. Did another experiment. I just have the feeling that the air valves are not going up as they should, so I removed the oil from the dampers, just to see what would happen. No noticable difference there either. Spark plugs looks like its going a bit rich. Did everything according to WSM regarding the settings, but will try to make it leaner. Frustrating...

    Lack of power

Thanks! Will check this. I did check for pinholes when I assembled the carbs, so I think it could also be something else than pinholes. I did forget to tighten this clamp once, with similar result. I hope I did not do the same mistake twice...

    Lack of power

I did find two diaphgrams in my boxes, must be 20 years old. Will try them. "Pulls like a train" is a common description when driving a Vitesse. Well, my pulls like my 50 cc moped at the moment. Starts ok, idles ok. Wont rev more than 2500 or 3000, and it takes forever to reach those revs. But it is not flooding (thank God).

    Lack of power

Pinhole in the carb diaphragm is the only cause for lack of power that I can think of at the moment. Unfortunately I don't think I have any new ones in stock. The poor quality of rubber parts is a common topic on forums, and I have heard stories about receiving "elephant condoms" when ordering these parts. Any recomendation where to buy Stromberg diaphragms in order to get good ones? Thanks in advance.
  16. The ferry to Sweden takes two hours and we have one hour time difference to Stockholm. We call it the ferry lag.
  17. It must be obvious to anyone reading my posts that English is not my first language. I use some weird expressions. I frequently have to Google to find out the correct name for the part. However, using the "correct" term can sometimes cause confusion on forums until I found out the equivalent slang word used by everyone exept me 🙂 Thanks for correcting me Johny. I'm not offended in any way when people do that. On the contary it helps a lot when I try to improve my English and reduce my lingual handicap. The better I can explain the problem, the better support I get. Can someone explain to me why the float valves below are called a JET in the ad?

    Lack of power

That was my thinking. The crack (its big!) works as an air leak, reducing the vacuum. The vacuum is also lifting the piston in the carb (wrong word again, what is it called?). Less vacuum, piston does not go up, less power. No idea if that rambling makes any sense...

    Lugs in corect positon, checked.

    Lack of power

Not sure. I bought this engine for less than 100 pounds, and have not done anything else than fixed the cylinder head. I guess I should be grateful that it runs at all. Carbs are from old HC engine and has not been used on the road for about 4 years, don't remember their performance, but I think they where ok. Must check those diaphragms. I think it is the same issue as with holes in diapghragms as with those f&¤%#& rubber slivers. Even tiny ones can cause big problems.

    Lack of power

2-Litre 2000 Mk I engine. Some of you might have read my ordeals with flooding carbs and now when I finally got the engine started I have another problem. The engine idle ok at 800 rpm, but will not rev properly and there is a severe lack of power. The only time I have had similar problems before was with my old beloved Volvo 240 (also with Stromberg carb) and the root cause then was a small hole in the rubber diaphragm. In that case it would also start, idle, but did not have power to accelerate since the piston would not move much in the carb. The rubber vacuum connection has a very big crack and I solved it with a bodge made of rubber tejp. Looks awful, and it probably leaks a lot. I will have to find a better solution. Could this be related to my lack of power, low revs? Thoughts?
  22. Well the flooding is finally sorted! I DID find some tiny rubber slivers last time I took them apart. I had to use a magnifying glass to find them they where extremely small, but I guess they don't have to be big in order to cause problems. I have quite a lot of jets, both used ones taken from old carbs that I bought and newish ones from carb kits. I read somewhere that it might improve things if you tap the tip of the jet with a small hammer, and some people suggest to lap the jets by turning the tip and use a slightly abrasive paste of some sort. I have tried both, but unfortunately I have poor traceability regarding which jets I have been "improving" and which I have not touched. It is quite possible that I have "mended them to destruction" by doing this, and the jets I that tried this time where ok. The only thing I haven't toched at all is the pump and the pressure regulator (2,2 PSI at carb). I guess I will never know the true root cause, but as long as they don't flood I can live with that uncertainty... Thanks all for your help.
  23. I think what they mean is that if you add a washer (= thicker washer in my mind) after adjusting to 18 mm, then a thicker washer will lower the fuel level. Otherwise I don't see how it would have an impact.
  24. Most CD 150 gasket kits comes with two washers for the jets. One thicker and one thin. I have tried both. I think WSM mentions that you lower the fuel level in the carb slightly by using the thicker one. I have tried both, don't know which one was the original for a Vitesse (?). Which one do you use in your carbs?
  25. That would be interesting to try, but the weekend is over and work will take most of my time again. I will travel (for work) soon so there will probably a pause in the garage. Gravity fed carb will be on the “to-do list”.
