Hello All Herald 13/60 Question Can I replace my Diff and leaf spring in my garage as I have no pit or lift for the car obviously I will use Axel stands but tell me can it be done at home and also the best place to buy a Diff and Spring from. What else will I need to do the job I.E. new bolts new bushes new shocks while I am at it. All advise an parts recommendations gratefully received. Regards Andrew

Hello to all in this thread You have convinced me to go for normal black flexi hoses, reasons being 1) I want to keep the car as original as possible 2) as you state never clamp a branded hose and you never know in the future when you might need to do this 3) and my brake pedal is good now so if branded is only marginal improvement can not see the point in changing. OK can someone please tell me the facts off. 1)Pros and cons of Normal brake flexi hoses 2)Pros and cons of Stainless steel braded hoses 3)Pros and cons of black braded hoses want to replace all four on my Herald but I am totally confused. I realise braded costs are higher but you get what you pay for My main questions are Will braded last longer? Is the pedal feel under braking improved? can you clamp braded hoses with our damage to them? Regard Andrew

Hi All on this subject I am also going to replace my Pinion oil seal on the diff and also the inner drive shaft seals, my question can these also be replaced with the diff in situ if so what is involved by that I mean do I need to remove anything from the car or is a case of undoing the UJ shafts into the diff and letting them drop? Hi guys Interesting I have premed your replys and rebuild my front suspension yesterday with plain washers and the nylons option. The reason for this is I have a Haynes manual and I was referring to this during the rebuild for the torque wrench settings and they refer to all part with plain washers and nylock nuts. It does Beg the question are there any installations wher Spring washers are best ( heat sensitive parts excepted) Andrew

Hi I have a question, this question has been promted by me ordering some front suspension parts for my Herald. The parts were delivered with all the relivant nuts and washers. On opening the packaging I discovered that there were a pack of plain nuts and Spring washers and a duplicat set of nylock nuts and plain washers so my question is which is best to fit and why. What is the advantage of either the spring washer set up or the nylock option not just on suspension but on any part requiring to be fastened I know where heat is involved you should not use my lock nuts for obvious reasons, but on any other installation which is best Regards Andrew

Hi Yes your slippers would fit Yes a bottle would fit (non alcoholic of course) And no when the roof is down the pocket is on the inside and cannot be seen. And if someone can tell me how I attach a picture on here I will do it Regards Andrew

I will take picture and post it on hear. No good for driving glasses Something for the weekend (in the back of a herald convertable don't think so) It is the right size for a collapsable brolly Come on guys we can suggest something better Andrew

I have been meaning to ask this question for over a year. Today I put my roof down and went for a drive first time this year I have a Herald 13/60 convertable 1971. The vinyl roof has a pocket on the inside of the roof on the near side just behind the rear passenger. It is a proper pocket with a popper to stop anything inside coming out. Please put me out of my misery and tell me why is it there. Regards Andrew

Hi Eddie I have just done exactly the same job of replacing my gearbox on my herald and believe it or not I was advised to use Hammerite but you must use black smooth, it looks good I also painted the inside of the glovebox and the spare wheel cover I know it sounds strange to use Hammerite on cardboard but it works. Hello I had the same symptoms with my 13/60 so I bought a coil from from the club shop my first call for all parts, and it has run like a dream ever since. I have reverted back or good old points with a red rotor arm once again from the club shop. Give Gareth a ring for some good advise Regards Andrew

Guys forgive me for asking but ball joints for modern cars are sealed for life and no grease nipples what is the difference as modern cars cover a greater distance than ours Andrew

Hello all With modern brake and clutch fluid (not silicon ) is it still advisable to change the fluid in both the brakes and clutch system. If so is just a matter of opening the bleed nipples one at a time and getting another person to pump the pedal, and does it matter which brake a bleed first Thanks in advance Andrew

Have you tried the club shop after all it is our shop so we should always give them first try on anything for our cars Regards Andrew

Hello all I have just purchased two stainless horn mountings for my herald 13/60 from the club shop the query I have is that the right angled bracket part with the two holes that should bolt to the frame under the radiator. The old bracket is welded to the frame under the radiator. My question is am I mounting the horns in the wrong place and if so where is the original place and if not do I saw of the welded mounts and drill two hols in the frame to mount my new brackets. Or any other suggestion would be welcome Regards Andrew
