  1. I have excessive play in one rear hub even though the hub nut is tight to the correct torque so looking for advice. What hub puller is recommended and where is best place to borrow, steal or even buy it from? Who supplies the best quality bearings for the Rotoflex rear hub? I have a spare set of shafts, hubs and uprights - is it easier to remove the hub and set up new bearings on the spare set then swap with the assembly on the car ? I think that I will be bending Pete's ear at The Raven on Monday evening !
  2. Hi guys, I'm thinking of selling my 1977 Spitfire 1500 but I don't really know how much its worth. I bought it last year as a project for £3800 and now it has an mot and rebuilt engine, mostly new interior. The paintwork isn't great and it has the GT6 bonnet. I don't know why but I'm only 18 and that's what came with it when I bought it before I knew more about the cars. The rear diff has an oil leak although I can fix it and the seals are relatively cheap. The overdrive works and the gearbox and clutch are good apart from a slight rattle in first. The tyres all have plenty of tread on them and I have a hard top and a soft top. Although you cant see out of the back windows on the soft top and the hardtop really wants some TLC - it's the wrong shade of red and theres patches of rust at the bottoms and a tear in the head lining. The rear carburettor wobbles although doesnt leak. The headlights have been changed to h4's. The best thing about it is there is no rust and no underseal as the bloke I bought it from changed the majority of the panels. I have all the receipts for what the previous owner did to the car and it was something around £6000 in total. If any of you have an idea how much it's worth or you need more pictures or descriptions I look forward to your replies. Thanks in advance,Luke
  3. Hi there, I'm a newly passed driver (<3 months ago), and am looking at purchasing a first car. I have been saving up for a while, so am looking to spend about £2500 to £3000 on the car (a lovely little Herald 1200) and a bit £extra for insurance. Searching through forums I have found many stories from 2008 to 2013 of dirt cheap classic policies for new drivers, but recently this appears to have gone dry. I am very interested in an old car for the experience, not money saving - but as a student money is a big factor (luckily my dad can help with repairs). I have got a few quotes for £2000+ from Peter James and Adrian Flux, with some companies like Admiral not offering me a quote at all. Just wondered if there was anything I was missing other than being part of a car club / possibly adding my Dad with his 20+ years NCB and history of classic cars. I really appreciate any help you can give
  4. I'm about to start a complete rewire of my 67 Mk3 Spitfire. I've already acquired a complete loom from Autosparks and would appreciate any hints and tips to make the job easier. Are there any parts, tools or connectors that could help? Many thanks in advance, Steve
