  1. Hi Everyone. In response to the tremendous amount of help that I have received from the forum members over the past few weeks, I have decided to open a new thread to keep all my woes together. I hope that some of my problems will help other members as I try to put my Spitfire back on the road after being mothballed for over 20 years. The topics already covers elsewhere are faulty tail/brake lights, ceased clutch, refurbishment of the horns, strange symbols in wiring diagrams, carburetor cleaning and setting, and other stuff which I will edit in as it comes back to mind. I have also converted my original pump windscreen washer unit to electric and will post details of this is due course for anyone interested.   2. Hello again. So, after 15 years or so, the old girls is running again. I’ve started on the fluids, greasing etc. I’m waiting for oil, coolant, new hoses etc so I thought I’d look at the brakes and I’m confused! Just for a change. The disk callipers at the front have silver bleed screws (one of which seems completely seized - is replacing just a matter of unscrewing the old one and fitting a new one?). The rear passenger hub seems to have a standard bleed nipple (whatever the ‘standard’ is) but the driver’s side drum doesn’t. It just seems to have a screw head. Is that normal? Should I replace it for a nipple? I haven’t refurbed/replaced the master cylinder (yet) but I remember the brakes being pretty rubbish before. Is fitting a servo easy/recommended/possible/worth it?   3. A hard brake pedal on my spitfire 1500 led me to find my rear brakes were binding. Decided to service brakes and change hoses. When stripped down I could see wear on the backplate where the handbrake lever has worn at the pivot. Is this normal? I have looked at a few used backplate a on line and they have similar but not so visible wear. Would this effect the wheel cylinder sliding?

Hi all, After having a look at my brake pipes the other day I noticed that they should have some kind of fixing on them to the chassis as they would shear off otherwise due to vibration from the engine. As it stands it would fail its MOT. I would love to know what kind of fixing they require? where they attach to and where to get the fixing? I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out with this. I have attached a photo below. Also if anyone knows where to get one of these pipe fixing clamps which attaches to the bulkhead (2nd picture) I would really appreciate it also. Cheers, Jim.
  5. Hello My Vitesse 6's brakepedal's judders when I'm braking. Disc alignement measured to be with in tolerance, rear drums checked by engaging the handbrake to be also fine. Vert link ball joints replaced. The judder increases when speed decrases and is visible and audiable just before stop. At that point the whole front of the car is rocking. A bit like if the wheels where wobling. Where do I start to determine the cause of this very unpleasant driving experince. Regards, Flemming
