  1. Hi I have a Mk2 GT6 with a 2.5 engine and fast road cam. The car has been running on Stromberg 150 carbs, which are clearly not right for the engine, and a V3186 manifold (not sure what that's from). I have acquired a pair of Dolomite Sprint SU HS6 carbs that I intend to fit, but wanted to check a couple of points before making any expensive mistakes! The Strombergs pretty much touch the bonnet, so the SUs wouldn't fit the current manifold without fouling. What is my best option? My understanding is that the standard GT6 manifold would work clearance-wise if adapted to the larger carbs, but I gather they aren't well balanced, and there also don't seem to be many around. Are there other options? Any advice on needles and air filter also gratefully received! Thanks.
  2. I’ve noticed a comment regarding tubular manifolds, that the 3to1 collector is actually a slip joint and the perils of this. I introduced my own flexi joint (axial and radial flex capable) under the gearbox of my GT6 as it did indeed all look a bit too rigid. Has anyone else tried one of these on the road? My car’s still work-in-progress.
  3. Can anyone advise the best way of treating this crack in the exhaust manifold on a 2L mk1 Vitesse? Is it likely to get worse? I’ve read on at least one forum that exhaust manifold cracks can coke up over time, partly solving the problem. Thanks in advance
  4. Looking for a cheap exhaust manifold stainless or mild steel as I'd probably have to heat wrap it anyway I know you can buy them new for around £200 or so but if I'm wrapping it I'm not bothered about it looking shiny and new so if anyone has one they're not using and wants rid let me know Thanks Dan
  5. Hello I recently took the inlet manifold off a spit 1500 and found that the 2 mounting points between the Inlet and exhaust manifold had sheared (they are on the inlet manifold). These mounting points are in addition to the 6 main bolts holding the inlet manifold on to the block. Does anyone know how essential these 2 mountings are please? I'm guessing this is a common problem. Many thanks for any advice. Rich
  6. It's been a while since I posted anything on the forum, in fact I'm not sure I've posted anything on this one, it was all on the old one! I notice that another contributor (mishmosh) had bought a manifold from a Chester based supplier that I assume is the same one that I've just bought one from. I actually got my local garage to fit it, and they've had a hell of a time with it. The manifold pipes were bent incorrectly to the extent that the mating faces couldn't be bolted to the head because the pipes were hard against the engine, and the mounting holes wouldn't line up. After a lot of work, they managed to get it on, but it still won't seal properly against the head, which means it's blowing. The only reason I got this was to avoid the manifold to downpipe gasket problem, but this is now seeming like a small price to pay given this problem. So, I need suggestions. Do I: a) Go back to a standard system and live with having to change the gasket occasionally? Get a better 4 branch manifold- recommendations as to ones that actually fit? I hoping the Chester based supplier will take the other one back- I'm thinking they should, it's certainly not fit for purpose. Simon
  7. Have had to replace several of these because of cracks in recent years. My stock now very low, thinking of changing to stainless steel any one care to comment on the available items from the various suppliers. Just want to fit and forget, I have a standard stainless exhaust system. Many thanks. Paul
