Neil Clark
There is a lot of what looks like latex on the underside of the carpet and underlay removed from the Spitfire. Do I just re-coat it with fresh latex when I put it back?
Pete Lewis
is this part of the structure of the carpet has it degraded or broken up why do you feel you need to re coat it >???? was this some adhesive used to hold the carpet in place or just the rubbery backing used on some carpets Pete
Neil Clark
It's only on a few parts of the carpet such as where it rests up against the firewall, and it's also all over the underfelt where that wraps over sharp angles in the floor like the cross member. I had to peel it off to access the body / chassis bolts. It looks like it's one of the standard moulded carpet sets.
dannyb
Is it sound deadening that was stuck under the carpet. Danny
Colin Lindsay
If it's only sound deadening it can be easily replaced; sometimes it was used on sharp edges to help the carpet last longer. I used a lot of it on the Heralds to soften hard corners.
Nigel Clark
The sill and wheel arch carpets are glued on, and the residue could look like latex. Clean it up and reglue with Evostik TimeBond contact adhesive or spray upholstery adhesive. Nigel

Badwolf
I had some Hessian type 1" thick underlay in the Spit in years gone by. On the recent refurb, took the seats and carpets out to find that the underlay on the passenger side had all gone...just dust. All now replaced with SilentCoat.
