Joanna K
Good evening gents, I'm looking for a rear gearbox transmission tail housing for my gt6 mk3. Has anyone of you have a spare one for sale? Best wishes Joanna

Pete Lewis
yes the tail housing is common across the range of 3 rail gearboxes /non overdrive Pete
johny
oh I was hoping for an expert but Pete will have to do🤣 The bearing failures are worrying! Dont know about the flange but possible thrust from the propshaft wouldnt be good for them....
Pete Lewis
think i would check the propshaft telescope is working and youre not using the prop to tie the engine and diff together causing excessive loading of the tail bearing Pete

johny
I thought about this a bit and of course the tail roller bearing isnt actually positively located in the gearbox casing so if there is any push/pull from either the prop or expansion of the gearbox mainshaft the bearing should move in the housing. This should minimise any strain on the bearing but it is crucial the washer (part no. 155756 - not longer available) is installed BETWEEN the bearing and mainshaft. If it isnt used in the right place the bearing could be heavily loaded by doing up the flange nut which would lead to it failing very quickly.... Johny this is the sequence of the rear bearing cover installation as we had it, ( from the previous owner) please see attached. The thrust washer was always fitted after the bearing and not before, is this correct?
johny
No Joanna, that looks like the problem as that small washer has to go on the mainshaft before the bearing to stop it being jammed up against the shoulder in the casing...
