I'm lacking the above parts on our Mk 2 seat bases, they appear to hold the seat base away from the runners.

They're listed as NLA but presumably simple enough to find or make something similar, however I'd be grateful if someone could tell me what length they should be.

Thanks,

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

When I bought my Mk2 in 1984 it had round buffers made of quite soft rubber under the passenger seat. I think that they were about 4-5mm thick, but they may have compressed over the first 18 years of the car's life (if indeed they were original).  I assume that they were there to add some tension to the seat catch. They are long gone now but I put blanking grommets in their place just to stop the seat rattling when I am driving without a passenger.

Thanks, Adrian.

What's happened on my car is that the the seat backs' shoulders are becoming scuffed from rubbing against the trim at top of the B post. Putting a couple of blocks of wood under the seat holds the back in the right place, but I think it would need more than 5mm - more like 25. Might try and get some of those rubber door stops which can be cut down if needed.

Would the larger blocks from a Herald be any use? I think that little plug is only to stop metal to metal noises and doesn't look big enough to keep the seat upright. If your seat frames are the correct shape the Herald blocks would keep the seat more upright; certainly works on mine.

It might be worth checking that the seat back hasn't broken where it joins the base frame. I've seen a couple of seats that have been 'fixed' by being welded in the wrong place. This gives a twist to the seat that makes it uncomfortable to sit in and prone to hitting the b post.

Btw, Colin, did you see that Vitesse Estate sold the other day for good money ? Look at Carandclassic.com auction results.

Couldn't find it this morning, lots of very nice cars though. I try to avoid the 'For Sale' ads, they're dangerous. :)
